Chaotic Hearts

I have never used this stamp despite owning this plate for years, because I could never figure out what to do with it! It is two designs that when placed next to each other form a heart, and are made up of smaller cutesy hearts. This time, I had an idea. Voila! Now some of them are upside down, but since love sends you for a tailspin at times, that seems appropriate. I even like the dots I added!

Colors:

~ Black/red multichrome: ILNP – Eclipse
~ Pink stamping: Born Pretty – Crimson Cheeks
~ Gold: Essie – Good as Gold
~ Stamp: BM – 620

I don’t know that I will turn this stamp into an annual use thing (like the one I posted Wednesday), but at least I got to use it once! Hope you enjoyed, and happy almost Valentine’s day!

Brain Science

This has nothing to do with the winter. When I went to a neuroscience conference, I decided I needed to paint one side with something somewhat subtle that I could use to shake more professional hands if I needed to. Since I won an award, I assumed that I would need to meet people for dinner who didn’t want to see neon neuron nails, and would prefer grey with a hint of gold. Thus these nails were born. Of course, I cannot do anything plain, so I did make them subtly science. We have chemical formulas, brain folds, DNA helix, neurons, and a microscope. Since the stamping plate is “For the Love of Science” I also stamped the word “Science” and added it to my pinky. This was fun!

Colors:

~ Grey: Zoya – Evvie
~ Gold shimmer: Emily de Molly – Goddess of Rays

~ Stamps: Hit the Bottle – For the Love of Science

Overall, I did have to shake a fair few important hands. Not a single person whose hand I shook noticed my nails…because every single one of them was male. I got a lot of interest (primarily with my other hand’s design, which you will see on Friday) from female attendees of the conference though. As always, I over-planned!

Falling Leaves Overlay

Every time I try to make a manicure with a cool design and a multichrome with some negative space, it fails. This is attempt #4 (I think) and each time I want to bang my head into a wall. This took way longer than it should have and STILL does not look great. Oy!

Colors:
~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black
~ Red/orange multichrome: ILNP – Greatness
~ Dark teal: ILNP – St George
~ Green/gold shimmer: Blush Lacquers – Nerida Singer
~ Stamps: Uber Chic – Lovely Leaves 2

I need to stop trying to make negative space manicures with multichromes, they are just too hard to get even on the nail in this setting. And stop picking designs that need to be colored in if I AM going to use negative space. Live and learn…eventually.

Poison Apple

I was inspired by @polished_pomegranate to make a poison apple manicure. I am glad I found her inspiration post! I had put together a Halloween manicure that I did NOT like, and wanted to trade it out, quickly, for something simple. This allowed me to use my drippy stamps, (even the skull!) which I don’t know that I have touched before! And it looked both creepy and cool. Overall, excellent!

Colors:

~ Red-gold multichrome: ILNP – Greatness
~ White: Sinful Colors – Snow me White
~ Stamps: Lina – Make Your Mark 02

This week also begins what I consider to be the REAL countdown to halloween (in terms of nail art). Although everyone else has been posting since September, and for some reason that is also when halloween decorations sprung up in our neighborhood. It is excellent, but I do NOT remember this level of dedication from my childhood!

Dark Patterned Rainbows

I am all for brights and pastels, but sometimes you just need something dark and vampy. And then you can spice it up with rainbows! Now, how does one get a rainbow over black? By using 6 different multichrome polishes! Since they are intended to show up and shift over black anyway. I have to say I am quite proud of this one, I didn’t actually know I could complete a rainbow with multichromes in my collection! Of course, most of them have slightly different finishes from each other, so they would not look as good on a full nail design next to each other, but for creating stamped designs over black? It works.

Colors:
~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black
~ Pink multichrome: ILNP – Masquerade
~ Orange multichrome: ILNP – Greatness
~ Gold multichrome: Emily de Molly – Goddess of Rays
~ Green multichrome: ILNP – Reminisce
~ Teal multichrome: Emily de Molly – Near and Far
~ Blue/purple multichrome: ILNP – Birefringence
~ Matte: KBShimmer – Oh Matte!
~ Stamps: EDM – 21, BM – S101

The design on my pointer and pinky is actually a double stamp from the same plate; I started with green/blue/purple and then stamped the pink/orange/yellow over top. It showed up better in my practice design on my silicone mat, probably because the designs both had more space to show. Still fun! I started with it shiny but decided with all the multichrome that matte would work better. It honestly looked better in person, oh well. Hope you enjoyed!

Well-Defined Leaves

I did this manicure almost as a dare. I had seen a beautiful manicure on the Emily de Molly website where someone stamped Goddess of Rays over black. Goddess of Rays is a multichrome but is not the most pigmented polish ever….but the result was STUNNING. So I decided to try it myself. This was the result, and I am BLOWN AWAY. Now I need to go find other ultra shimmery multichrome polishes to stamp over black and make beautiful nail art that shifts color and somehow comes out perfectly.

Colors:
~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black
~ Gold multichrome: Emily de Molly – Goddess of Rays
~ Stamp: BPX Floral – L018

I decided to post this now, because I am longing for the cooler weather of fall. It is far too hot and humid out (it went a month without rain, and then we got torrential downpour for 4 days straight)! Hope you enjoyed.

Illusion Twist

Very simple but came out looking very pretty! I have not used a shifty/multichrome base for an optical illusion stamp before, but I think it has become my new go-to idea when I am bored and want to do something fast.

Colors:
~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on black
~ Pink/blue/teal/gold multichrome: Emily de Molly – Sea of Lies
~ Stamp: B Loves Plates – B03 Mind Blown

Happy end to vaguely-purple week, next up is 4th of July! And then who knows. My backlog of nail art designs to post is rapidly shortening as I only paint my nails once a week, oops!

Multiple Multichrome Weave

I love this combination of polishes, and these are fun stamps. So how can I lose? I really just wanted to try this combination of a “pastel” multichrome over a darker pigmented multichrome again. And the result was (as expected) too pretty to cover all the way up. Its a bit hard to tell what is going on in this manicure due to the number of colors at play, but even if it is confusing I love it!

Colors:
~ Red-gold multichrome: ILNP – Greatness
~ Pink-yellow multichrome: POP Polish – Slick Days of Summer
~ Dark blue: Zoya – Blake
~ Gold: Sally Hansen – Go for Gold
~ Stamps: Lina – @urbannailart collar, Whats Up Nails – A010

I should try combining multichromes more often, just for the fun of watching my nails shift colors in real time. It doesn’t make for the most interesting photos, but it makes me happy! I hope you guys enjoyed it as well.

Heart Array

I never had any idea what to do with this stamp. It looks cool but the size is weird? Why is there a heart? Voila! Lets just use the heart part and of course add some random dots. The background ended up a little busy (and holographic) so the design is a tad harder to see than I wanted. This is the problem with having so many absolutely stunning nail polishes, when I use them with nail art (which is always) the designs tend to disappear!

Colors:
~ Red/gold holo multichrome: Enchanted – I am the Walrus
~ Gold: Essie – Good as Gold
~ Stamp: BP – L084

On the plus side, all the colors went well today, even with the shifty goodness of I am the Walrus. Friday’s post is a bit more….bright. And matches itself less well. Hope you enjoyed!

Multichrome Tie Dye

This was not intended as a tie dye manicure. I just wanted to use a bunch of multichromes for fun. But when I was done and briefly posted these to a facebook group, one of the commenters pointed out that it looks like multichrome tie dye and now I can’t get that out of my head! Regardless, it was fun to create and looks rather stunning. The stamp itself was a purple-to-black gradient but you pretty much cannot tell over the teal/purple and the gold.

Colors:
~ Teal-purple multichrome: Emily de Molly – Near and Far
~ Purple: Zoya – Monica
~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black
~ Gold: Emily de Molly – Goddess of Rays
~ Gold flakies: Emily de Molly – Chasing Gold
~ Stamp: BC – 10

I ended up taking two outdoor photos of this manicure, because when I got my hand into semi-shade, the colors really popped!

Hope you enjoyed this very colorful and shifty weird nail art!

Simulated Rainbow Overlay

I am so often stuck stamping in black or white because those are the only colors I own that reliably cover any color (well, also silver and gold), but this time I wanted to experiment with real stamping polishes. I own a light pink and a bright pink (that can pretend to be red), and recently acquired a light blue. If I use them over dark colors, I can get most colors…especially if I add on some yellow jelly over the top of areas of my nails! Red, pink, purple, and blue come from the stamping polish, and orange, yellow, and green, from the jelly on top. Voila, stamping rainbow without a full rainbow of stamping polishes! …but also I need more stamping polishes.

Colors:
~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black
~ Black/red multichrome: ILNP – Eclipse
~ Light pink: Born Pretty – Warm Tea Cherry Blossoms
~ Hot pink: Born Pretty – Warm Tea Crimson Cheeks
~ Light blue: Emily de Molly – Light Aqua
~ Yellow jelly: Esmalta da Kelly – Yellow Soap Bubble
~ Stamp: BM – S108

For this manicure I decided a black base was too boring, and so used one coat of Eclipse over a black creme, just for some added interest. The red sheen on the polish worked perfectly :-). This ended up being pretty easy despite how complicated it looks! Hope you enjoyed!

Queen Charlotte Regal Garb

This was another manicure designed after some of the outrageously beautiful dresses in season 1 of the show Bridgerton. This one is modeled after the epic red and blue gown worn by the actress playing Queen Charlotte. I tried to capture the shiftiness of the blue using a multichrome but it only somewhat worked. Regardless, I like the end result! The inspiration is dramatic!

Much like Monday’s post, I decided to post this now since season 2 was just released, and I will be starting to watch it this week because I am behind. I hope the gowns are just as beautiful! And of course, the queens hairstyles just as magnificent.

Colors:
~ Red metallic: OPI – Cute Little Vixen
~ Blue multichrome: ILNP – Birefringence
~ Gold: Salon Perfect – Gold Leaf
~ Silver: Revlon – Metallic
~ Stamp: BC – 06

The whole design for this manicure is freehand, other than the background gold embroidery pattern on the red section; I hand-added the flowers in silver though! Unfortunately, although the very fine gold pattern is true to what gold embroidery looks like, you almost cannot make it out against the metallic burgundy of the base. Oh well, it was still fun to wear! Hope you enjoyed 🙂

Danbury in Purple

So, I became low-key obsessed with Bridgerton on Netflix last year during season 1. It was fun, lively, had actual good romance and banter, and AMAZING costumes. As such I did a few different designs modeled after some of my favorite characters and dresses! I decided to post these designs now since season 2 came out recently (although I am embarrassed to say that I haven’t watched it yet, I was on vacation!).

It will not be a surprise that my favorite character from season 1 was Lady Danbury, she is just such a badass lady in a man’s world and I love it. So I did a take on this dress of hers: <>. It is hard to see the lace details at the side and bust, but honestly other than the color and fabric of this dress it was quite subtle!

Colors:
~ Purple multichrome: ILNP – Undenied
~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black
~ Stamps: MoYou – Frenchy 14, BP – L084

This was fun to do, if a bit challenging to make the pattern stand out. Stay tuned for Wednesday, when you get to see my take on one of the queen’s dresses! Hope you enjoyed…and let see what dress (if any) I decide to copy based on the second season!

Eclipsed Lace

This went so wrong! I wanted to create a lines-over-lace look and for some reason went for black polish over a black-to-red multichrome. You couldn’t see the design at all. So I went and added red glitter? The whole thing is a mess. Oy.

The base here (which you cannot see) is ILNP Eclipse, three thin coats. This polish is just as beautiful as everyone has made it out to be and I am so glad I bought it! It actually came with a really wonky twisted brush, so I reached out to ILNP and they sent me a new one 🙂 I honestly put this back in my untried pile so I will wear it again soon in such a way that the base color is visible.

Colors:
~ Red-to-black multichrome: ILNP – Eclipse
~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black
~ Loose Red Glitter
~ Stamps: BC – 10

When this manicure caught the light JUST right you could see the whole design and it was pretty. It was also not worth it. Win some, lose some!

Pastel Rainbow Rose

It is time for (slightly?) valentines-themed nail art! So today there are more flowers. I started with a super shimmer pastel foil multichrome, and then picked all the colors it reflected and made a loose freehand rose! The end result looked surprisingly incredible, especially when my nails shifted or caught the light and all the colors reflected in the background. Unfortunately all of that detail doesn’t come through in a static image, but it still looks pretty!

Colors:
~ Pink foil chrome: POP polish – Watermelon Bubbleslick
~ Pastel purple: Zoya – Abby
~ Pastel pink: Zoya – Jordan
~ Pastel orange: Zoya – Cole
~ Pastel yellow: Maybelline – Citrus Collide
~ Pastel green: Zoya – Tiana

The nails honestly get increasingly absurd from here; turns out I don’t paint with much in the way of pink, and I haven’t done many hearts in the last year either! Oops. Enjoy anyway?

Freehand Swirls

This could have been better executed. I don’t know why, but curlicues just were not working out for me the day I painted these! Everything is freehand, and in retrospect I wish I had stamped. Oh well. Maybe next time? On the plus side, I forgot how absolutely stunning Birefringence is!

Colors:
~ Blue/purple/green multichrome: ILNP – Birefringence
~ Nude: Zoya – Chantal
~ White: Sinful Colors – Snow me White
~ Silver: A England – Excalibur

I also need to get over my fear of showing my naked nails at some point. I think this would have looked better if I hadn’t used Chantal and just used my plain nail in the middle. I will try this again, and next time I will be brave! And stamp.

Here, have a bonus picture showing off all the shifting colors. Enjoy!

Galactic Waves

I am not saying I purchased this stamping plate JUST for this stamp, but I also wouldn’t be lying if I said this was the one that caught my eye the most. I decided to use it at first with the glitteriest base I could find, and add gold, and add more dots…you get the idea. It looks almost musical. I love it!

Colors:
~ Pink/blue shimmer chrome: Polished for Days – Fireflies
~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black
~ Gold: Salon Perfect – Gold Leaf
~ Stamp: Whats Up Nails – B039

Despite being a very simple manicure, this is one of my recent favorites. I need to use it again with a different color palette. The next week is going to be mostly stamping manicures as I clean out some of my older nail art. :-p

Itinerant Traveler

I had been staring at this design on the stamping plate for SO LONG and I just had to use it. I had to. The biggest struggle was how to make the dragons stand out. The stamping plate has the dragons as part of the design, but I didn’t want them to be just black. So, I stamped over the black with multichrome (and then went back in and added more multichrome by hand because shifty dragons just make sense)!

I started with a bright green base. What you see here are two coats of OPI’s Did It On ‘Em. I hate the name, but the color is a beautiful pale grass green (a yellow-leaning bright pale green). I had been looking for a replacement for Essie The More The Merrier, and I think I have found it! Its a nice polish.

To make the base more grass-like, I dry-brushed on two more shades of green. When that was dry and top coated, I added my stamping decals, and then finished off with the multichrome dragons. I initially painted the blue sky directly on the nail after the stamp was finished, but I decided that was farrrrr to much effort and just turned it into part of the stamping decal after the first two nails 😀

Colors:
~ Pale green: OPI – Did It On ‘Em
~ Green: Zoya – Josie
~ Dark green: Zoya – Shawn
~ Blue: KBShimmer – I’d Rather be with Blue
~ Light grey: Zoya – Dove
~ Grey: WOW – #333
~ Dark grey: Zoya – Evvie
~ Pale grey with black flecks: Cirque – Hatch
~ Red: KBShimmer – Chai-huahua
~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black
~ White: Sinful Colors – Snow me White
~ Brown: Zoya – Dea
~ Gold: Salon Perfect – Gold Leaf
~ Blue multichrome: ILNP – Birefringence
~ Stamp: Maniology – M035

Thats all for today, and fits the 31 day challenge of book, mostly because I love fantasy novels! I don’t have a specific one here, but there are so many who cares :-p. Hope you enjoyed!

Copper Knots

I have never used this stamp before and it is quite pretty! This is quite a straightforward manicure (just a stamp over a base) but with the beautiful shifty holo multichrome base, and the complicated interlocking stamp, it looks rather sophisticated!

Colors:
~ Copper/gold holo multichrome: Enchanted – I am the Walrus
~ Gold: Essie – Good as Gold
~ Stamp: Whats Up Nails – B017

I am always torn using one of my more expensive polishes for simple stamping manicures, but then again, what is the point of having a polish if I never use it? It seems counterintuitive. I should use my favorite polishes more and just buy back-up bottles (that said I don’t think I am the Walrus is available any longer). Hope you enjoyed!

Beaded Curtain

The stamping and the colors work perfectly here! I had missed using this particular color of multichrome so I just went for it 😀 I don’t think I have used Greatness is at least 8 months, maybe longer. I tend to hoard my multichromes because I think of them as limited, but honestly ILNP just keeps pumping them out (as does everyone else) so I really shouldn’t be afraid to use them more!

Colors:
~ Red/copper/gold multichrome: ILNP – Greatness
~ Gold: Essie – Good as Gold
~ Gold glitter: Ethereal – Rainforest
~ Stamp: Whats up Nails – A010

I bought this particular stamping plate just for the design that you see on the majority of my nails. Now, I got the plate at 70% off because I didn’t like this design ENOUGH to pay like $10 for a stamping plate, but $3 seemed reasonable! I love sales. Hope you enjoyed!
