I love gradients, but I was having trouble thinking of what I wanted to put together for the 31 Day Challenge. Then it hit me…I still hadn’t tried to sponge on a textured gradient! I had seen some pretty nail photos, and decided to give it a try. Ladies, this mani just jumped into my top 5 favorites. Ever.
I used an off-white base and covered it with quick dry top coat (I usually don’t, but I started this mani at 11:15pm and had to TA at 9am the next morning! Moreover, I knew that this base coat would bubble and I wanted a shiny smooth finish). I then taped off most of my nails in a criss-cross pattern (or straight down the nail with striping tape AND regular tape)…and added my gradient.
For me, gradients over white have always taken time…they are pretty, but I have to pass the sponge over the nail at lest 3-5 times to get on enough color that I feel comfortable with the gradient. Textured polish? TWO. And they dry FAST. Ladies, if you own textured polish and striping tape, TRY THIS. All I had to do were two very quick passes with my makeup sponge and it was done! Moreover, peeling off the striping tape was a cinch! (It usually isn’t).
Downside: clean-up. I didn’t tape off my nails, because I briefly forgot just how annoying it is to clean off textured glitter polish. The mani took maybe 25 minutes to put together…and another 25 to clean. There was glitter EVERYWHERE. Regardless, I LOVE this! (Ok. Enough with caps lock. I just can’t stop staring at my nails, and its been a little while since I’ve really felt good about my nail art).
- Off-white: Maybelline – Bare Escape
- Light green: Zoya – Vespa
- Teal: Julie G – Rock Candy
- Blue: Julie G – Blueberry Fizz
The best part? All three textured polishes have a strong silver shine, so they went together perfectly! I need to try this again with MORE COLORS bwhahaha.
Go check out what the other girls put together for gradient day!
