I have been wanting to do opal-themed nails for ages, but I never found a design that I think actually captured the beauty of the stone! Luckily, Lady Queen Beauty sent me some opalescent cellophane for me to review! Now, this stuff would usually be used over a dark color for shattered glass nails, but I decided to put it over white this time around to make opals! And I love it!
This did need two coats of top coat to make sure everything stayed flush against my nail…unfortunately my scissors are rather dull so when cutting the cellophane I ended up with raised edges. Oops! The design also ended up bubbling quite a bit when everything dried…but I’m fairly certain that’s because I mixed two types of top coats.
As far as putting this type of design together, its actually rather easy! Just make sure to cut the tiny triangles ahead of time so you don’t end up getting them stuck to wet top coat when they haven’t been properly placed yet! Then, once your base color is dry, add non-quick-dry top coat to half the nail, and use tweezers or whatever you usually use to place studs/rhinestones to lay down the cellophane pieces properly and press them into the clear top coat. Then do the other half of the nail!
So, simple! But somehow I still got bubbles. I’ll be trying this over a dark color soon (to do proper shattered glass nails), and I’ll figure out what actually works perfectly then 😀
Meanwhile, if you want to get some iridescent nail cellophane, head over to Lady Queen Beauty. I used maybe 5% of the sheet to make this mani, and the sheets come in a whole bunch of colors! They are on sale right now for $0.99 too! The one that I have shown here is #5. Enjoy!
