Golden Lace

You guys. THIS POLISH. I feel like I say that about every polish that I pick up from the Polish Pickup Pack! I’ve been buying ~2 polishes every other month, since for some reason they seem to alternate off-months with things I love. I need to stop buying so many new polishes but each is more strange and incredible than the last!

This is one I was hesitant about, since some of the swatch photos looked incredible and others looked forgettable. However, I have never owned a CbL polish and have always wanted one…and they are known for their holos! So I went with it and I am glad I did. This polish is awesome!

What you see here are three thin coats of Frohe Feiertage! (which I will never ever spell correctly without looking at the bottle). I probably could have gotten away with two if I was more careful. the polish dries a bit gritty, so this is with top coat. That said, this is such a pretty polish! It is from the December Polish Pickup, and thus is no longer available, but if you like funky cool polishes I recommend you join the fb group! You never have to buy anything if you don’t want.

The weird thing about this polish is that I couldn’t actuality tell what color it was. Supposedly the base is a silver holo, but honestly it is so full of shimmer and glitter that it isn’t remotely silver! The polish is swimming with gold and silver glitters, and packed with so much copper-to-gold shimmer that the overall look is a rose gold with flecks of gold and silver in it. I bought it to replace one of my favorite Mentality polishes when it turned out that Mentality was destroying my nails -_- and it is, if anything, much prettier than that darn polish!

Of course, being me, I ended up adding a floral lace stamp over the polish because I didn’t want to cover too much of it. Hope you enjoyed!

Hot Air

Remember how a few weeks ago I posted a pretty red magnetic design…and had forgotten to post the swatch of the polish I was using? Well, here we are! And oops.

This is the other magnetic polishes I bought from Masura. It caught my eye because it appeared both copper and burgundy! I love that color combination.

What you see here are two coats (one thin and one thick, as is standard with magnetic polishes) of Evening Before the Fireplace. When first polishes, the color is mostly a copper metallic finish. The magnet raises the lines of copper so they look almost gold, and leaves behind a deep burgundy red with copious glitter. It is quite stunning!

I thought that the patter looked like hot air currents above a fire in a fireplace…which might have been inspired by the name of the polish itself. So, I decided to stamp on some gold flames and highlight them with gold glitter! The glitter is a bit hard to see, but it was fun to look at.

I am so glad I picked this polish up! I hope you enjoyed!

Tropical Fronds

I am in Hawaii right now! Or, at least I should be. I am very excited. I was waiting to post these nails (which I painted back in December in honor of my cruise to the Caribbean) until the start of my next tropical vacation because I am a dork.

The design here was inspired by clairestelle8 and I honestly think I did a pretty decent job replicating her design! Unfortunately, the base gradient which looked really vibrant on my nails did not translate well in the photos. It isn’t pastel!

For the design itself, I had to hand-stamp each leaf, since I didn’t have a plate with thick enough frond leaves to work. Surprisingly, it didn’t take too long! Also, I didn’t like the idea of using a white border for flowers, so I used the darker of the blues instead, and I wish there was a tiny bit more delineation between the flower and the surroundings.

That’s all for today! Sorry preemptively for not responding to any comments for the next two weeks, meanwhile I hope you guys enjoy the posts I have lined up!

Emerald Vines

After last week, when I posted the magnetic lace art, I realized that I had never posted my new magnetic polishes all on their own! So here is one of the two (since you guys have seen the other one already)!

The two polishes I bought are both by Masura, because they seem to be both colored AND gold, as opposed to most of the other magnetic polishes that I have seen (which tend to run to a single color, or that color and black). The Masura’s also seemed to have more distinction between the magneted part and the base color. And glitter within them! Basically, I was intrigued.

This is two coats of Emerald Cat by Masura. The polish goes on a bright metallic green, but when the magnet is applied the whole look changes! The metallic bright green is dragged toward the magnet and turns almost golden-green, while the revealed polish is a dark forest emerald with copious glitter in it. Basically, it’s beautiful.

Once the design was on, I realized it sort of looked like a swirled forest, so I grabbed a spirally vine stamp and did a green-gold-green gradient and tried to overlay the vines on the brighter green-gold part of the base. It totally worked! I think back on when I had to use regular stampers (as opposed to the ubiquitous clear ones) and shudder.

That’s it for today! I am glad to be done with both the holiday season (which lets be honest, goes through Valentine’s day) and my boring interview nails! The rest of this week, and the foreseeable future, are a random mix of fun nails!

It turns out that thermal polishes are only intended to be good for 6 months…so all of my beautiful thermals are becoming less shift-y! Which clearly means I just need to use them more. It also means I wish my favorite brands would stop releasing thermals because I don’t want to buy things that stop working 😦

This was my trial with my shiftiest thermal, a clear-to-black with scattered holo shards, that used to have a darn impressive color range. The base here is actually a holographic blue-grey, but once I put the thermal top coat over it most of the color just went grey. This top coat used to be almost entirely see-through, and I am sad about this change! However, the shift is still VERY prominent so I am ok with it.

I think I want to try stamping with this polish at some point? I don’t know if it is quite opaque enough even in cold/black form but I am curious! Now I just need to plan up things to do with the other…6 or so…thermal polishes that I own. Two others are already shift-less 😦 (but luckily for both I liked the cold color better, which is where they stayed).

Happy Friday! Next week is one of my last required classes for medical school, and our “rank list” goes in for where we want to go for residency. Mine has been in for about two weeks already, but I will certainly be double-checking! And I will be fleeing to Hawaii on my much-delayed honeymoon for two weeks after that, so I will be pre-posting. 😀

So close to finished with these boring interview nails! Today’s is the only set that I ended up using yellow for. Usually I dislike yellow, but I wanted to use this specific polish because it was just…sitting there. Lonely. So I did! It may have ended up a bit…very glittery, but yet again no one commented so I think I’m ok 🙂

I spent a bit longer than I should have trying to pick which stamp to use, but I settled on this odd encased circles design. I don’t think I’ve ever used this particular stamp before! It is a bit boring, but overall pretty.

Please ignore the fact that the bottle shot of the polish has a smear of the polish on it. I honestly don’t even notice anymore until I go to take photos and then suddenly whoops there is a dirty bottle!

That’s it for today, happy Monday! I finally get to go back to lab as of this week, so I actually am quite pleased 🙂

Icy Swirls

Continuing with the theme of subtle, snowy, and swirled, we have this post! By this point in the interview season I was giving up on the very bland manis that I sported in the beginning, and was firmly in the realm of mints and golds and a bit more contrast.

That said, I still deemed this subtle enough to wear! It is another of my favorites, and it helped that during this particular interview it definitely snowed! It is always fun when my nail art predicts the weather :-p

I do need to get some more snowflake stamps, on the off chance that I have time to do nail art next winter (this whole residency thing is becoming far more real, I need to put together my actual list and cross my fingers!), since most of the plates I have don’t stamp well!
