Beglittered Swirl Vines

I really like how this one came out! It helps that I used a very pretty polish as the base, but somehow the red/gold with the blue and gold metallic just work! I also love vines (I am wearing this particular stamp right now, with a different manicure).

I have a whole bunch of actual holiday nail art…lets hope I get a chance to transfer them onto my computer and get them edited up by next week! Honestly I have my doubts, I have to many outside obligations at the moment. :-p Hope you all enjoyed!

Dark Geode

I don’t know where I was going with this, but the end result is rather geode-like so that’s what I am going to pretend I was aiming for! This was intended to go up on Friday after Thanksgiving, but I was too tired after only sleeping 3 hours on my call night in the hospital and then hosting thanksgiving dinner! So, sorry guys…but you get to enjoy it today!

IMG_8475

As is true any time I use this polish, Aurora stole the darn show. It is just such a pretty polish! I always use it over black, but looking at this manicure I have to wonder what it would look like over dark red or dark purple. Maybe next time?

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed! I have no idea how I used to post every day, I love sharing my nail designs but editing nail art is exhausting.

Yellorange Rise Marble

Yellow and orange? Check. Topographical map stamp? Check. Water marble? Sure why not! In summary I have no idea where I was going with this nail art but it ended up somewhere at least! The base is a yellow-orange thermal but it was weirdly warm and I could not get the darn thing to stay orange long enough to get a photo! Oh well :-p

Short and sweet, mostly because this is more strange than pretty. Hopefully I will have some better nail art for you later this week! Hope you enjoyed!

Blue Flames

So, these nails were actually painted for Hanukkah (many moons ago) to match with my menorah nails (which lets be honest, will not be posted until NEXT hanukkah). Anyway. With the Blues (the St. Louis hockey team) in the playoffs for the first time in a while, I figured blue nail art was appropriate! So I dug these out of the vault :-p

IMG_3568

Honestly, I have no idea why I wanted to make blue flames, but I felt like it would be fun? I feel like I have made flames in many colors, but somehow I have not layered blue ones before! The only part that isn’t stamped is the holographic polish at the very end, I wanted to reverse reality and add a yellow glowing base rather than a blue central flame since blue was everywhere else!

Flowering in Gold

So this mani came out better than expected! I wanted a copperish-green and I almost missed entirely! I started of with a coat of Dragon, which is of course totally opaque in a single coat…and then decided it was too dark! So I topped it with a thin coat of a different green and then STAMPED with Dragon (and some gold). Voila!

IMG_3822

I did have to scour a bunch of plates for actual designs though! And with the combo of green and reddish-gold I think it totally works for a quasi-thanksgiving manicure 😀

Luckily, I have part of tomorrow off, so I can at least join my husband and some of our residency friends for dinner, although I am on and overnight call on Friday into Saturday, so I have to hope that whatever awesome nail polish sales happen Friday will be ongoing until Sunday! I also need to apologize for some of the atrocious spelling and grammar at the end of Monday’s post, I should not write blog posts while exhausted. Oops! Hope you enjoyed!

Ginkgo Green

While finishing up my move from the east coast to the midwest, I re-did my nails. After 4 days of packing my nails were a DISASTER, and with only one day left I figured maybe whatever I put on them would survive (at least until unloading)!

18-06-05 Ginko Green

I had set aside (aka did not pack) about 10 polishes, 6 cool colors that I thought I might want to wear, and 4 “necessary” polishes: black, white, gold, and silver, all suitable for stamping. For this mani I grabbed one of the two greens I had out, O R’YLEH by Great Lakes Lacquer, and stamped with some gold ginkgo leaves using Good as Gold by Essie!

IMG_2913

I had most of my full set of rectangular plates out as well, just because they pack nicely so I figured it would be ok to put them straight into my to-go suitcase. For some reason, these leaves spoke to me! They are from BPX plate L018, which is full of leaves, flowers, and birds.

IMG_2870

That’s all for now! The photos look a bit wonky because I had packed away my usual set up, and was basically using my iPhone for all photos (generally my iPhone takes the sunlight/outdoor photos but my 14 year old cannon takes the indirect lighting photos). Oh well!

Hope you enjoyed!

Ocean Surf

Summer time! Well, sort of. In St Louis it went from 99 degrees and sunny to 75 and raining. I prefer the colder and rainier, but it makes this less fitting! Anyway, I really like the mani 🙂

IMG_2409

The design was inspired by the ever-awesome Copycat Claws (and yes I saw this posted a year ago and have been waiting to do my own version since then)! Unfortunately the shell and starfish charms that I own are SIGNIFICANTLY smaller than I expected, and than were required for this mani. So I improvised.

IMG_8835

I started with a teal creme polish, and topped it with a darker teal jelly. Once that was dry, I stamped using white polish. I then topped the white stamp with two coats of the same teal jelly polish. On the nails with sand and water, I blobbed the teal jelly in a haphazard pattern somewhat overlapping the textured glitter to make it look like sand underwater. I then then added white surf by hand using part of an (unused) kitchen sponge. Since my textured polish is pretty simple, over the textured glitter I dabbed on some gold holo glitters for a more interesting base.

IMG_2411

Unfortunately, the ocean charms I have are rather small! I ended up sponging on some white polish so they would stand out against the gold base, since the charms and the textured polish were almost exactly the same color! Yikes. Even sadder, the pearl charms I have are much larger than, say, the starfish and clamshell charms, so I grabbed some cute pink rhinestones instead and am going to pretend they are sea glass 😀

Golden Shadowed Leaves

This is a bit of a sad day: tomorrow I leave Philly for St Louis. So, this is my last nail art post while in Philadelphia. Philly was where I first discovered nail art, and in the last 7 years my collection has gone from 2 polishes to over 400. I was thinking of posting a pretty skyline design I did, but I ran out of time to edit it (this is becoming a theme) so you’ll have to make do with some shimmery leaves.

IMG_2089-1

This is the mani I created out of my pastel teal swatches, and so there are more teals than you might imagine! I did a dry brush of each of the 4 colors (three cremes and one holo) over each other, and then double stamped over the top with a gold glitter and then a green holo glitter. I really like how it came out!

IMG_8068

I am glad I went for the dry brush technique, the bases all ended up looking roughly the same by the time I got to stamping. I also think this is the first time I’ve actually liked stamping the same image twice? Usually I try too hard or the colors are awkward together. But green and gold always works!

IMG_2090-1

Initially, I was going to stamp gold then black, but my eyes fell on Dragon which I haven’t used in probably a year, and I grabbed it. A England polishes always stamp so well! It makes sense, since basically all of them are one-coaters. Adina is nuts. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed! And goodbye Philly! My next post will be from St Louis…but since I move in on Monday we probably won’t have internet for a few days. Sorry! I will also have some freehand art up eventually…I do have some in the vault I just haven’t edited that either, I know it’s been a lot of stamping post recently!

Purple Cobblestone Path

Time to see the nail art that I did over all those weird swatch tests from the last few weeks! This is from my purple cremes day.

IMG_7365

I decided to start by mashing together all 5 purples (basically sponged them on randomly on each nail). After that was done, I stamped over the purple mash with a blobbed combo of three colors (one of which was a different lighter purple), and then stamped on top of that with a metallic purple.

IMG_7362

Basically, I painted them a single purple, sponged on 4 other purples, stamped cobblestones with 3 purples, and topped with a metallic purple. So very purple! I do like that the cobblestones at least showed up!

The Ocean is Kooky Dooks

I knew I wanted to make beautiful tropical sea nails just before I left for my honeymoon to Hawaii. I also sweet talked my husband into watching Moana (for like the 20394830th time) in preparation, and somehow these nails came out looking like Moana ocean! I am pleased.

IMG_6468

I love how these nails looked in person, but between the dark blue and the bright teal, in photos I ended up with lobster fingers! I’ve tried to somewhat color adjust for that, but I don’t know how successful I really way.

IMG_6457

The double stamping (silver and white) looked fun, but there is a part of me that wonders if the mani would have looked better with just a single stamp? I will never know!

IMG_6452

That’s all for today! I thought I would throw in a mani that didn’t have a brand new polish in it for the first time in a while :-p Enjoy!

Breaking Black

This is a bit of an odd mani, but I like it anyway! I basically just stamped over (yet another) new polish. At least this one isn’t purple!

IMG_6427

The base here is Karavaki, one of the Polish Pickup Pack options from a few months ago (February I think), by Stella Chroma. Once I laid my eyes on it I knew I needed it…it is the BLACK version of the FUN Lacquer glitter bomb holos that I bought last year!

IMG_6298

What that means is that this is a black jelly base chock full of small holo glitters. This is with three thin coats, it goes on VERY sheer to start (I was afraid I would need more than 4 coats), but filled in with glitter quite quickly! It looks super cool. That said, it was (predictably) a pain in the butt to remove what with all those glitters!

IMG_8764

The stamp I used, to me, looks like broken glass. Since Karavaki is such an intense polish, I didn’t feel too bad about covering up 50% of it! I was so darn glittery in the sunlight.

IMG_6379

Colors:
~ Black glitterbomb: Stella Chroma – Karavaki
~ Silver: A England – Excalibur

IMG_6387

I initially added some blue glitters to the nails that had the ‘center’ of the smash, but once they fell off I decided I liked it better without them. Hence the mix of photos with and without random blue glitters! Hope you enjoyed!

Foiled Foliage

I think I am pun-y! Well, it isn’t a pun, the title is basically just alliteration but it still makes me happy. As does this mani! It is technically still autumn…and currently the ground in Philly is completely covered in leaves. It is pretty, crunchy, and utterly ridiculous. When I walk outside I feel like I am eating leaves!

IMG_3470

The base polish here is intended, I think, as a topper…but I wanted to make it opaque! This is three coats of Raging Fire by Born Pretty over one thin coat of a dark red base. Honestly, this polish was almost completely opaque at two coats! The final coat was mostly for my pinky, which I had painted more sparsely than the others. Despite looking uneven, the glitter was actually quite smooth after one coat of top coat. That said, the polish itself is thick and a bit goopy…good for dense flakie placement but it would have been difficult to get a light coat of polish.

IMG_3411

The flakies themselves shift from pink/red to orange/copper to gold and emerald green at sharp angles. Since the flakes are at slightly different angles to each other, it is actually easy to get the whole color shift! It was mesmerizing.

IMG_8033

I then made stamping decals using a left design from plate Floral BPX-L018 with Essie Good as Gold and colored in between the leaves with OPI Visions of Love. It looks quite fun and glittery! I know I could have instead just painted the leaves of the stamping decal with flakies…but this was so much more fun :-p

IMG_3462

And, surprisingly, this was pretty easy to remove! Since they are flakies and not true glitter, they dissolve with acetone. The dark red was more painful since the color tends to stain my cuticles. If you want to pick up this flakie polish for yourself, head over to the Born Pretty Store, where you can find it on sale for $3.69. Enjoy!

Fall Shift

Well, apparently I forgot to write this post until this morning, and I have a 9-hour-long test in an hour, so this will be brief!

IMG_1870

The art here was inspired by Manic Talons but oh dear god do I need to get some stamping polish! This is absurd. I tried 3 color combos before I found something that would even pretend to show up over the dark base.

IMG_7640

Also, the pink/red shimmer in The Magician came through better in real life, but I wanted a photo on its own. Oh well!

IMG_1853

That’s it for today. Wish me luck!!!

Turning Leaves

I took far too many photos of this mani! Moreover, my favorite ended up being one I casually snapped while walking to the grocery store (hence the odd lighting) but LOOK AT THE SHIFT!

IMG_7561

The theme here was end-of-autumn leaves, when the leaves themselves are red-to-brown, so I used a bunch of red and pink and copper multichromes! This is the companion piece to the one from last week. Oddly, while I liked that one better while I was wearing it, I like this one better in photos!

IMG_7512

You can maybe see the shift in the leaves? I can at least, so I am happy. This might be one of the first multi-shaded multichrome designs where I think the shift is both visible and adds something to the mani. Finally!

IMG_1396

There is in fact one more leaf-themed mani coming up prior to Halloween, but just one (and its next week)! Friday’s post is a little more…thematic.

IMG_7547

That’s all for today! Stay tuned for something that is actually Halloween-themed rather than fall-themed :-p

Falling Leaves

I did two VERY similar manicures…one on each hand. Mostly because mutlichromes are fun and I at this point have too many of them :-p.

IMG_7508

The other mani is shiftier, and will go up next week so that I don’t bore you guys with the same manicure twice, more-or-less. This one, although it shifts less, I actually think I like better (and that’s unusual)! The colors came together really well.

IMG_1454

I started with a green multichrome base (this one shifts from an emerald green to a bright teal, and a deeper blue at steep angles) and then used advanced stamping (aka coloring in the design on the stamper) to add the leaves. Two of the leaf colors are multichromes, although the golden-brown one barely shifts (its mostly a gold to greenish-grey, but it was already a grey-gold to start with). The other one shifts from copper to brown, which is again, not a super big shift. I like it anyway!

~ Copper-to-brown: Born Pretty – 212

IMG_7551

I will admit to staring at my nails and moving them around trying to capture the right angles for these photos…but I just gave up and picked ones that looked pretty and glow-y instead. So, pretend that they can shift at least a little? Meh. Still pretty! Now if only it would COOL DOWN around here…it should not be 80 degrees out in Philly in mid-October!

Murky Pond Blooms

This started out as a comparison between my three murky gold-green polishes. As it turns out, I REALLY love this color (as it stands my #1 lemming right now is Nine Zero Lacquer Singer’s Auto Salvage, which is basically the same color as all of these but with an intense amount of glitter). Anyway, I wanted to see how they stacked up! Of course, I had to add nail art too…I was wearing a cool shirt and I decided to model my nails after the shirt I had on (which is sad because I couldn’t wear it again the next day and perfectly match my nails, but oh well)!

IMG_7126

In a Trance by Cult Nails (ring finger) has the least amount of shimmer, but covers nicely in three coats. It is the most understated of the three, but looks the most elegant on. Fotheringhay Castle by A England (pointer and pinky) is the only one with holo shimmer, and has more of a deep/metallic finish than the other two. It is almost a one-coater, which is incredible. Wallis by Butter London (middle finger) actually has a deep blue base with copious gold glitter, with the end result being this tarnished green-gold. It is deeper than the other two, but since the base is a jelly it takes 3-4 coats. That being said, it likely remains my favorite. I just cannot get over the depth and shimmer!

IMG_7037

IMG_7032

I ended up sponging on black polish somewhat randomly, and then double stamping the result with a plate sent to me from the Born Pretty Store. The plate has some fantastic geometric and random element patterns! I used two of them here, one in gold and then one in black. It looks wonderfully random! The plate is BPX – L020

IMG_6118

I ended up hand-painting some roses and leaves to finish off the design. There was a part of me that wanted to leave the mani without the flowers…but the shirt I was inspired by has flowers and I actually think it really lightened up the resulting nails!

IMG_7137

I am not going to list all the polishes I used…suffice to say it was a lot. If you want to pick up this random fun stamping plate for yourself, head over to the Born Pretty Store! The plate is currently on sale for $2.99, and personally I love the wacky designs on it! Don’t forget my 15% off code, LY5X31!
