I saw this manicure by @ruthsnailart and I really just wanted to re-create it. I so rarely see a dark shimmer base with dark flowers that really pops (the orange glitter dots) and somehow feels somber despite being floral. I made me think of rain. I also think that at this point 50% of the nails I recreate are from Ruth.
Colors: ~ Grey metallic: Essie – For the Twill of it ~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black ~ Brown: Zoya – Dea ~ Purple: L’oreal – Paparazzi Pleaser ~ Green: Zoya – Shawn ~ Orange glitter: OPI – DS Indulgence
Hope you enjoyed the dark dreary flowers on this cold winter day! Or at least enjoyed the nails if not the day. Happy Friday!
This is a mix of freehand and water decal, because it has been a very long time since I played with water decals! And they are fast. I started with a teal holographic base, then added my water decal marble pattern, and then the teal line and dots. The end looks somewhat sealed together which is cool, although I wish I hadn’t done the double line and dots on my accent nail! It just looks silly.
This is three thin coats (I could have probably gotten away with two thick coats honestly) of Athena by Formula X. For a polish that I got for $1 this is incredible. I love the metallic-like shimmer and the holo glitter depth, it reminds me of some of my ILNP polishes. It is a pale green-leaning teal.

I guess I have been quite into mint/teal these past few weeks! Ooops. Last time this year I was posting endless purple. I suppose I go through periods when all of my nail art is one main color based on what mood I’m in? Who knows. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed! Water decals make for fun easy nail art 🙂
Ok so this was fun. I wanted to make my nails look like a bed of dead leaves (ok that sounds bad) or bark without leaves on it, and I decided to have fun with brown and nude marble-spotting to do so! It actually looked really cool. Of course, the fall vibe is not complete without some red and orange leaves, so I added those as well. Voila!

I’m going to be honest: all of the halloween and fall nails that you guys have seen up to this point were painted a year ago. This year I did a bunch of halloween nails (that, true to form, you will see next year) but no fall nails yet! That means, however, that most of what is going to be posted between now and maybe Thanksgiving are going to be just random nail art that I have lying around. Sorry, no more theme! I do have a bunch of back-logged winter holiday nails to look forward to though :-p
This was created for Halloween, because zombies. However, while I was putting this together I decided I actually wanted to make it somewhat realistic (in terms of color) so it took a lot longer than expected and I love it! It helps that I am both a neurologist and a neuroscientist, and that brains are kind of my thing. I usually don’t work with gross tissue (aka hold a brain in my hand) but I can still enjoy it!
The base polish is a new-to-me polish from Polish Pickup a while ago that I had been saving for this exact manicure called Not Such A Fungi by BKL. This is another polish that arrived together with the lovely science stamping plate of happiness, and as soon as I saw the color and the brain gyrus/sulcus stamp I knew I was going to create this manicure. The polish is a pale orange that leans nude, and is made more subtle by a healthy dose of red-to-green shifting shimmer. It took 3 coats to cover my free edge, but the end result is quite pretty and worth it. It lasted for 6 days with no tip wear, so clearly the chemistry of this polish agrees with me!
Colors: ~ Orange shimmer: BKL – Not Such A Fungi ~ Brown jelly: Born Pretty – Arcadia ~ Dark red: OPI – Visions of Love ~ Stamp: Hit the Bottle – For the Love of Science
I ended up deciding that the orange polish with dark red stamping, while realistic, was not realistic ENOUGH so I added meninges (the thin membranes around the brain that help hold some of the fluid in place) using an orange-brown jelly polish. It took a lot longer as a result, but it also looks (to me) far more realistic so I think it was worth it. I don’t know that anyone else noticed! Anyway, hope you all enjoyed!
This was another smush marble design. I wanted to make it look like there were jack o’lantern faces on the tops of pumpkins! If I am being honest the idea flopped miserably (these look nothing like pumpkin tops) and I forgot that this plate barely stamps. Despite that, I had made the decals (which were a pain to get onto my nails) and so I wore the resulting manicure for 5 days anyway. Not my best work!
Colors: ~ Light orange: Forumla X – Incandescent ~ Orange: ULTA – Sun of a Gun ~ Brown: Zoya – Louise ~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black ~ Stamps: Born Pretty – Halloween L004
I actually don’t think I have ANY other pumpkins to post at this point! its going to be fully Halloween spookiness or dead leaves from here on out :-p Enjoy
I don’t know when people started calling October “spooky season” instead of just “Halloween season” or you know, October (with the implication of working-towards-Halloween) but I find it odd. I love Halloween and fall and the general existence of October and November, but it doesn’t need a “season” name? Anyway, prepare for the rest of this month to see fall- and halloween- themed nails! This particular design was inspired by @nailart_bygracie, because sometimes cute inspiration is all you need for a lovely fall manicure! Of course I had to go complicate things by adding some more gradients to the orange and trying to make it appear to have depth, but oh well :-p

These were fun to make and fun to wear, and I will likely do another set this year of something similar. Yes, these are from LAST fall :-p. Hope you enjoyed!
I had been staring at this design on the stamping plate for SO LONG and I just had to use it. I had to. The biggest struggle was how to make the dragons stand out. The stamping plate has the dragons as part of the design, but I didn’t want them to be just black. So, I stamped over the black with multichrome (and then went back in and added more multichrome by hand because shifty dragons just make sense)!
I started with a bright green base. What you see here are two coats of OPI’s Did It On ‘Em. I hate the name, but the color is a beautiful pale grass green (a yellow-leaning bright pale green). I had been looking for a replacement for Essie The More The Merrier, and I think I have found it! Its a nice polish.
To make the base more grass-like, I dry-brushed on two more shades of green. When that was dry and top coated, I added my stamping decals, and then finished off with the multichrome dragons. I initially painted the blue sky directly on the nail after the stamp was finished, but I decided that was farrrrr to much effort and just turned it into part of the stamping decal after the first two nails 😀

Thats all for today, and fits the 31 day challenge of book, mostly because I love fantasy novels! I don’t have a specific one here, but there are so many who cares :-p. Hope you enjoyed!
This one was a lot of fun to make. Honestly, I just love painting scenes, and this was no different! I started with a nude base, painted on the yellow, orange, nude, red, and then freehanded the sand gradient. I think I left too much space for the sky, so I decided to add wispy clouds. Overall, I am quite happy with how this came out! The design was inspired by @ruthsnailart.
Colors: ~ Nude: Zoya – Chantal ~ Dark yellow: OPI – Never a Dulles Moment ~ Orange: OPI – Yank my Doodle ~ Red: KBShimmer – Chai-huahua (with a bit of Zoya Margo) ~ Dark brown: Zoya – Louise ~ Brown: Zoya – Dea ~ Light brown: Zoya – Flynn ~ Neon yellow: Love & Beauty – Yellow (over Serum No 5 – Dayglow) ~ White: Sinful Colors – Snow me White
I did try to make the sun glow by using Dayglow over a bright yellow, but sadly I didn’t use it over a large enough area (or pile it on deep enough, I didn’t want a huge bump on my nail!). So no glowing sun. That said, I think this is considered a success! I think this is one of the last intense freehand scene I have painted in the past year? You guys will see another one during the #31daychallenge (yes, I plan those manicures ahead so I don’t get stuck playing catch-up), so stay tuned! But since all of my recent best manicures will go up in September for the, the next few weeks are going to be the sad rejects. Sorry!
This manicure was inspired by @urbannailart. She had the coolest idea to make a FADED stamp (gradient from white to clear on the plate), and then top that with a jelly polish! I did it 3 times which was overkill…I have a hunch I am going to be doing this again but using only two coats (since the third one both disappeared and just made it look busy). The end result, however, was SUPER COOL and it looks like the surf is just at the edge of the sand! It also gave me an excuse to use my brown-gold holo polish. Unfortunately this polish looks awful on its own against my skin tone, but it works great as an accent color 😀 and of course my shell and starfish charms!

Since the jelly polish I have is a green-teal, I decided to use a periwinkle purple base to balance out the green in the jelly. I should have ended up with a brownish mess, but instead color magic happened and I got a beautiful vibrant blue :-D. I love polish fun! Moral: sometimes things just WORK and magic happens! I also spent this past weekend at the beach and this is a wonderful reminder that I can relax…even if I am currently on service as a chief in the hospital (dear god, they want me in charge of an entire service in the hospital?!). Anyway, enjoy!
Omg I love this manicure! Look at the detailed stamp! And those ladybugs! This is basically the perfect summer manicure and I am proud of myself. It helps that the stamped worked perfectly (that happens to rarely!) and that the base color somehow just complimented the whole thing. I feel as though I usually reach for a complicated holo/glitter background and it ends up detracting from the final design! But this totally worked. Score 1 to Eva!

I wanted to post a link to the born pretty store plate because it worked so darn well…but they stopped carrying it! I guess the good ones sell out fast. Anyway, hope that you enjoyed this summer nail art, stay tuned for more this week!
You guys I am SO PROUD of this. This entire design is free-handed. And it came out pretty!! I just grabbed a neutral palette and got to work 😀 I am honestly shocked that the colors didn’t end up clashing, and that I was able to use the light pink over even the dark brown color without too much difficulty. Usually when I go for a set of colors that I don’t first spend time looking up online to ensure they will work together, I end up with at least one odd color out that looks silly. But these actually worked!

I cannot decide if I think overall I would have saved time by trying to use striping tape for all the lines, but I bet it was quicker to freehand. Especially with the overlapping pieces, trying to wait for each layer to dry to add tape would have been unbearable! Anyway, I hope you enjoyed!
I wanted to create some simpler cherry blossom-esque nails, and decided to do this design! I started with an angled pink gradient, added some shimmer, then made branches and added my dot blossoms. In retrospect, I liked the design better without the white dots (they are too stark in contrast to the other colors) and would likely not have tried to loosely color gradient the dots (darker near the start of the branch and paler near the end). I think a random dot assortment would have been prettier!

Honestly, I am just glad that I am finally getting around to posting a bunch of floral nails before spring ends! What should I switch to for summer, water nails? And does that mean water marble or nails that look like water? Who knows! 🙂
I was feeling lazy and decided to do a simple manicure…I can’t remember the last time I just did a gradient without any stamping or freehand design over the top. That said, it meant I spent more time on the actual smoothness of the gradient. I am pretty happy with the result, surprisingly!

I probably won’t go back to doing simple unadorned gradients anytime soon, but it was fun and soothing to do this one. So maybe one or two more with different glitters :-p who knows! Hope you enjoyed! And welcome back home from vacation to me 😀
I have achieved the pinnacle of nail art…which is to say that a design I found in 2016 and was never able to paint (missing the correct color and could not do the striping tape needed due to time constraints and a desire to keep my sanity) has finally been completed! I have this file with all of my dream manicures (at least those that I might some day do…there are many freehand artists out there that I simply cannot hope to compete with) and this was one of the older ones in that file. Victory is so pretty!
So, this design came from @natalia_engineer, only her version was much much simpler: she used a magnetic polish to create her gradient, and her black pattern was made from water decals. I ended up using 5 polishes to create a similar gradient, and a stamping plate for the chevrons! I still count it as a win. Also now I want that magnetic polish.
Colors: ~ Dark gold holo: ILNP – Sparks May Fly ~ Gold glitter: Zoya – Ziv ~ Dark brown with glitter: Spa Ritual – Starry Night ~ Brown: Zoya – Dea ~ Dark brown: Zoya – Louise ~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black ~ Stamp: MoYou – Pro 02
I started with my darkest gold glitter, Sparks May Fly by ILNP. Its a nice honey-gold that actually looks terrible on me by itself. I then tried to do a gold-to-brown gradient using glittery polishes (Zoya Ziv, ILNP Sparks May Fly, Spa Ritual Starry Night) but all I got was glitter, and the brown from Starry Night didn’t transfer at all. So I decided to do a creme gradient with Zoya Dea and Louise to get the brown tones, and then just dry marble over them with a bit more of Sparks May Fly and Starry Night. Success! Although Ziv left a MESS at my cuticles (pretty polish, pain in the butt to clean up). When all of that was done I got to the stamping part, and voila! Awesome manicure :-D, and HAPPY NEW YEAR. We have a vaccine and a new president, so 2021 will absolutely be better than 2020.
I love this! How cute is that snowman? And the reindeer might be *ahem* oversized but its still adorable. Its a reindeer-with-its-face-in-the-camera. Lets go with that. This is probably overall my favorite winter manicure from last year (yes, I post around a full year delayed. I do not have my life enough together to post just after I paint).

Lots of colors and designs and I still cannot get over that snowman! Anyway, I hope you enjoyed! I am going to finish up with some winter/New Years manicures this week, and spend the early part of next week on my top 10 posts for both polishes and nail art. Hope you enjoyed!
All I wanted to do was create a neutral palette and play with a new cell-creating fluid art polish. Somehow I ended up with diseased zombie nails. The design and the cells worked great…it was my color selection that could really have used some work! Of course, this does mean that the nail art works GREAT for Halloween, only I painted these months ago! Oops 😀
Colors: ~ Pale nude shimmer cells: Baroness X – Sand Ahoy! ~ Pale nude: L’oreal – Boho Babe ~ Pink: Essie – Eternal Optimist ~ Dark pink-red: OPI – Yank my Doodle ~ Brown: Zoya – Dea
Moral of this story: unless you want diseased-appearing nails, stay away from a neutral pallet when creating cell nail art. Hope you enjoyed, and stay tuned for Friday’s excellent Halloween nail art!
This was inspired by @falguni_nails, but her IG appears to no longer exist! Oops. Regardless, I would seldom use different shades of brown for anything other than tree branches without outside inspiration, so this was fun! I also need to remember that carmel brown might be a stunning color but not with my skin tone. I have lobster hands 😦 but I love the design so whatever. Thats also why these images are darker than usual, no matter how I tried to color correct either my hands or the polish looked wrong, so here we are!
Colors: ~ Brown: Zoya – Flynn ~ Dark brown: Zoya – Louise ~ Rose gold metallic: Essie – Penny Talk ~ Gold metallic: Essie – Good as Gold ~ Gold glitter: ILNP – Juliette
Every bit of this mani is freehanded (this is what I do with my days off…especially when I had a cold last year and didn’t feel like exposing my germ-filled self to the outside world)! Anyway, hope you enjoyed!
Simple brown gradient with brown and then gold stamps! Of course with this type of stamp I always add some freehand dots to make it even prettier 😀
Colors: ~ Nude: Zoya – Chantal ~ Dark brown: Zoya – Louise ~ Brown: Zoya – Dea ~ Light brown: Zoya – Flynn ~ Gold: Essie – Good as Gold ~ Stamps: Nicole Diary – L28
I actually really like how this manicure came out. It was fast, easy, elegant, and fun to wear. Its also quite seasonally appropriate without being either drab or too orange/purple/green! 😀 Hope you enjoyed as much as I did! If you want to pick up this stamping plate (which I have to admit is actually a rather awesome one) you can find it here for $6.99.
I wanted to do a woodgrain manicure, but that was too simple! So I went and added some bright leaves. The base was a medium brown with lighter brown dry-brushed on. The stamp was two shades of darker brown. The leaves were advanced stamped (ooooh, aaaah) to make it more colorful, and to make them stand out. I like the end result and it is very appropriately autumn, but with the advanced stamping it took quite a bit longer!

I am so happy, the leaves on the trees in front of my house have finally started to change colors and it is pretty! I think last fall I was too caught up in life to notice things like the leaves changing. Anyway, hope you all enjoyed!
You guys. When I made this I saw so proud of myself for layered stamping (this was last year) and now looking at it, it is way too busy and just NO. Also, my stamps are almost see-through and this whole thing is a mess. So you only get one photo…my indoor photos look like I forgot to add top coat and I am not forcing those images on you! Anyway, to make this overly complicated manicure I decided to use two different wood stump stamps that I had never touched. One as it turns out is negative space and the other is…positive space? Standard? Who knows. I didn’t like how it looked with just the wood grain, so I added fall leaves and then dots because I cannot leave well enough alone!

Anyway, sorry about this mess. I have some prettier leaf-themed manicures coming up, I promise!
