Swamped Marble

I’ve had this sitting in my folder since January  and since today is Saint Patrick’s Day, the green and gold is totally appropriate! I mostly just like green 🙂

Back when Zoya was having a sale, I bought two very similar green cream polishes. Jace is the second of the two green Zoya cremes…and honestly, I like her less than Tilda, the other. As it turns out, Jace is almost in the middle between Shawn (a darker yellow-toned green) and Tilda (a bright true-green)…which since Tilda dries darker than expected means that the spectrum of shades covered is actually much smaller than I thought. I do not need all three polishes, whoops!

The other sad part is that Jace takes three coats. And not three thin coats, three medium-thick coats. I even tried to use Jace as a jelly, but it is just slightly too opaque for that! The polish does self-level nicely and dries down to a super squishy high shine finish, but I want my two-coat perfect coverage Zoya creme, and this polish isn’t!

I’ve been seeing a lot of creme+glitter water marbles recently, and I love how they look like the clouds swirling around a foreign planet (like, if someone did them in brick red, orange, and white, it would look like Jupiter). So, I tried to make one in green! It actually WORKED (first time I’ve gotten glitter to spread and behave in water!), but I need to figure out the ideal way to swirl the actual design before I try this again (…which is how I got the “Sea or Sky” to work).

My thumb, which I did last, actually came out best. Frequently with water marbles, I am so fed up with trying to get the polish to behave that I give up by the time I get to my thumb, but I was inspired this time. And it looks awesome (if I do say so myself).

You can barely see any of the green glitter, and it was the least spread-able, but I wanted to use it anyway. Low and behold, the ILNP ultra holographic metallic polishes spread really nicely in water and actually behave well! I’ll need to play more with this….stay tuned! Hope you enjoyed!

Copperized

Gah. I had such high hopes for this mani and they did not pan out! This is not my best work (although it isn’t a total fail I suppose).

I was trying to compare the two matte-finish Zoya green polishes: Honor and Veruschka. I bought Honor for a friend who really liked Veruschka, since Veruschka was discontinued. I wanted to compare the two before I gave Honor away just to see (sorry Amy, I wore this on one hand first!). Honestly, the two polishes are very very close. V is a little darker and more true-matte than H, but frankly its a bit hard to tell! I am glad I have V, I like the more matted finish a tad better.

img_9105

Ok, so, Honor by Zoya is a medium-dark-green polish with a semi-matte finish (more of a satin than a true matte) with shimmer. The shimmer is a bit hidden in the matte state, and I did not add top coat so no photo, sorry! This is three thin coats of Honor. As with all mattes, it dried down gratifyingly fast!

img_9117

I then went and directly compared to Veruschka…which is still a name I cannot spell half the time (hence the V earlier). I did one stripe of V up the middle of each nail (I have photos of that too, but they were a bit out of focus so unless someone cares deeply, I won’t be posting them). When that dried, I added another stripe of Honor, so that the design was a base of Honor with two thin lines of V and a middle line of Honor again. From the photo below, you can tell that V really is a half-shade darker, but you can’t tell the finish. V has a bit more shimmer (or it just stands out better against the darker finish) and dries down matte-er than Honor. That being said, I don’t think anyone needs to own both unless they REALLY like green mattes! As mentioned, I personally prefer V but only by a little.

The design came about because I wanted to rebel against my recent hospital time with some 3D dots…although they took forever to dry! There are two colors of dots (which you cannot see in the outdoor photos because they are both soo glittery), and the overall effect was…meh. But I tried!

Holly and Branches

This is by far not the end of my winter and christmas manis…this is just the last one I got done ahead of time to be able to post 😀

img_3632

These were also the nails I submitted to the Nail Art Canada holiday nail art challenge, but I lost the link somehow so I didn’t get them posted until one day before the contest closed. As a result, I didn’t win, but I did somehow make top 5 for the people-who-submitted-to-vote (let’s see how that one goes!), but thanks to all of you who voted anyway!

I put these together using stamping decals for the holly and simple stamps with dots added for the branches nails. Overall quite easy!

Burgundy Floral

I’m leaving you lovely readers with something to look at over the weekend! This is a bit of simple floral art that I’ve put together around India by Zoya, inspired by kimiko7878.

IMG_7542

India is a deep red which leans pink, with ample shimmery glitter (mostly gold) running through it. It covers nicely in two thin coats, with perfect control. This polish manages to be elegant while being fun! Well done Zoya 🙂

IMG_7535

I didn’t feel like stamping over the dark color (which is my normal go-to on swatch posts) so I decided to make a floral accent nail instead! I still need to work on my flowers, but this isn’t terrible.
