Pink and Red Tread

This features another of the Zoya polishes that I bought to replace an existing polish; in this case my favorite mid-tone pink is simply empty. I tried to use it on my thumb and couldn’t get enough out of the bottle (although I did end up using a tiny sample size pink that is almost identical for comparison) Unlike my pale pink adventure, this pink polish is not nearly as close in color, nor is it as easy to use!

IMG_0322

On my pinky, middle, and pointer fingers I have 3 thick coats of Zoya Kitridge. As it is touted on the website as a “5” and thus totally opaque, this polish is a lot more jelly-like than it should be! It was also supposed to be a bright “barbie” pink, but I honestly think it is too pale for that. It is a pretty enough color, but not what I was looking for! I also have two thin coats of Bubbly by Revlon on my ring finger, and a weird mix on my thumb (one coat of Pink Forever by Sinful Colors before it finally dried up, and one coat of Pinkini by Clinique which is an almost identical color). Regardless, Kitridge is too pale!

IMG_0270

Then I went wonky. I decided to make a pink-to-red gradient, but I used a bright red rather than a dark red, and Kitridge is not opaque enough to gradient over Bubbly! So my poor ring finger just does not match. I ended up doing a kind of fun stamp up the middle of the gradient, but honestly I should have picked different colors!

Colors:
~ Light pink: Zoya – Kitridge
~ Pink: Clinique – Pinkini
~ Bright pink: Revlon – Bubbly
~ Red: Pure Ice – Siren
~ Dark red: Revlon – Valentine
~ White: Sinful Colors – Snow me White
~ Stamp: BM – 206

So, overall, this manicure was a bit of a disaster. I blame Kitridge…I had a whole thing planned with a darker pink but it was not going to work with a medium-light pink! *sigh* I wish there were more comparisons on the internet, but at this point there are probably millions of shades and finishes of nail polish and that would be far too much to ask!

Gnarly Blossoms

I know it isn’t spring anymore, but I got the PERFECT base color and I just had to make this! I’ll likely do it again next year so it fits :-D. Also, flower day anyone? 😀

IMG_6909

This awesome design was inspired by ruthsnailart which I have recently become obsessed with. If we are being honest, I added too many cherry blossoms (I like her slightly more minimalist design) but this still looks pretty epic!

IMG_9914

The base is a stunning periwinkle blue/purple polish with copious pink-gold shimmer and silver flakies called Traverse the Skies by Emily de Molly. I have had my eyes on this polish ever since it came out, and it does not disappoint! I love it. It is super interesting (both in terms of color and finish), and is just close enough to purple that I’ve also already worn it to the hospital. This is three thin coats, although I probably could have gotten away with two if I was more careful.

IMG_9848

What you probably can’t tell is that there are THREE colors of brown in the tree branches (and an additional three colors of pink in the blossoms) and putting this all together took longer than I thought it would. That said, it was worth it! I am impressed.

~ Light pink: ULTA – Baby Doll

IMG_9882

That’s about it for this one! I’ve never made cherry blossoms this way before (usually I try to make little flowers rather than dots) but I really like this. Hope you enjoyed it, happy flowers day!

Pink Explosion

Today is a celebration…sort of. The final rank list is in for residency, and there is nothing more me, my husband, or any of our prospective schools can do! Which means that we are fleeing to Hawaii for two weeks starting tomorrow. I should have internet during our travels, but I doubt I’ll spend much time on it in Hawaii! I’ve never been before and I am very excited. It also helps that this is vacation is a little more extravagant than usual, since it is also our honeymoon (yes, we got married over a year ago).

IMG_8368

The other fun bit about this, is that the mani shown here was painted on a moving cruise ship, on my last vacation to the carribbean with my in-laws! In retrospect, trying to create a pattern of nested dots while on a moving boat that is slowly but surely rocking side-to-side was NOT my best idea. Ooops!

Wish me luck on my adventures! I have enough posts pre-prepared that the blog should not be without new nail art while I am gone, but things might be a little slow to start up again when I get back, especially since I find out where I matched for residency 48 hours after I return…and I imagine things are going to get a bit chaotic!

Subtle Pink Overlay

Of all the designs I did during my residency interviews, this is probably the most subtle. I figured if I was going to wear a pink that was blatantly glittery, then I needed a design which would not stand out!

IMG_3029

I used a pink glittery base that claims to be holographic and almost is, and then stamped over it with a scale pattern using a gradient of light pink to normal pink. I almost wish I had used white and not light pink, this design was almost invisible!

IMG_7944

I think this is also the only time I didn’t just cut both my hands back when one nail broke…which is why I have one hand with nice square nails and one hand that is rounded. I dislike rounded nails!!

IMG_7949

This was work-appropriate mani #2, out of maybe 10? I have two interviews left at this point so probably out of 11 total manis. We shall see. I hope these are giving those of you with jobs that require boring nails some ideas! :-p

Pool Floating

I know it is getting just a bit cold to go swimming, but I painted these back in August so it was appropriate then! Besides, there are totally indoor pools, right?

IMG_6938

The design was inspired by pricelessnails. Unfortunately, I did not quite figure out the spacing for my inner tube (the pink thing) so it is a bit…squished…compared to hers.

IMG_6912

This is another new polish for me! What you see here is two thin coats of Glee Ridden by Emily de Molly. I have so many manis that I want to do that need a neon teal, and this looked perfect! It is, as expected, a very nice opaque neon teal creme. The color is slightly greener than turquoise, but very very bright! I am a fan.

IMG_9855

I think I maybe should have done a bit more of a subtle gradient (that blue is darker than I expected, the polish used to be a semi-jelly and I think its congealed a bit), but this still came out well! I love how the waterspotting worked. I got a new white polish not too long ago so it actually spread on the water!

That’s all for today. If it is warm near you, go swimming! And if not…I dunno. Dream about Hawaii?

Barbie Scales

Sometimes, I just want to do dots. And all I have with me are pink and a silver. My intention with this pallet was to do a rough gradient of some type (I was traveling), but somehow I decided on pink fish scales. With silver as a contrasting color.

IMG_6719

And then I decided that if Barbie were ever to do a scale mani, she would go with pink. Eye-searing pink. So we have a Barbie scale manicure. Honestly, this one looked rather cool on, but since I didn’t have my awesome nail camera, the colors are a bit odd (darn you iPhone!).

Pink and Teal Striping

Simple short post today. I keep falling behind on my writing and editing! This mani was done while I was at a conference, so it had to be fast a dirty…and use travel-sized polishes!

IMG_6721

Basically, striping tape + tiny polishes = awesome nail art whenever and wherever! The pink is Pinkini by Clinique (sample size) and the teal is Love Those Wildwood Days by Philly Loves Lacquer (awesome small but full size). I had forgotten how much I loved the Philly Loves Lacquer polishes I was sent for review this summer…it only took ONE COAT to fully cover the pink! New favorite striping tape polishes.

IMG_6696

That’s all! Hope you enjoyed.

IMG_6706

If I get my nail art act together, there are more exiting things that I’ve done…but they have more than 3-4 photos, so take longer to edit. We shall see!

Watery Mellons

On the day of my 1 year blogiversary, I decided to re-do the very first nail art ever tried: watermelons! Here is the result.

IMG_2784

I started with a base of Clinique Pinkini, which looks like a dupe of Sinful Colors Pink Forever (I’ll have to compare…) only more expensive. Any tiny. Luckily, mine was free. Shown here is two coats, which went on easy but bubbled a tiny bit.

IMG_4585

When the base was dry, I sponged a darker pink over my cuticles, and then sponge a pink-to-white gradient over my tips. I THEN sponged on a white-light green-dark green gradient. (Lots of gradients for this one!) I added thin wiggly lines in my dark green, and finished it off with another one pass of my white-green-green gradient (to dull the wiggles, they were too prominent). I finally added seeds.

IMG_4616

I am somewhat astounded at the result. It looks awesome, especially compared to my first attempt! I do wish my nails were a bit longer (darn it) but such is life!
