Neutral Vibrations

I don’t know why exactly, but for some reason this manicure makes me think of the ripples of sound waves. Vibrational nails! Of course, these are also super neutral for the hospital, but I like them more than I thought I would! Each finger has a minimum of three stamps, which is a lot even for me :-p

Even though these are neutral-toned, and I have had a LOT of neural toned negative feelings after my Valentines nude-and-lace boring montage, I still don’t mind these! If you have to go neutral, at least make it interesting ūüėÄ Hope you enjoyed!

Medusa

This manicure was inspired by a stamping plate. I was sent plate Artist L005 to review from the Born Pretty store, and it is a weird plate! Typically Born Pretty lets me chose my own items to review, but this round they sent plates unprompted. And what they sent me was NOT my typical style! This plate has a lot of odd semi-people (bodies with plants as heads, tears, barbed wire…) honestly, very little that I would chose to wear and almost nothing that I think would be appropriate to wear to the hospital! And then I found Medusa.

IMG_7883

I have been wanting to do a Medusa-inspired manicure for years. I adore Greek mythology, but faces are incredibly difficult! This face works beautifully. The plate is perfectly etched and every detail picked up nicely (I do wish I liked the patterns more!), making it quite easy to make an advanced stamping decal. The other snake patterns came from other plates, and honestly don’t pick up as well! Go figure.

I spent longer than I strictly needed to picking what base to use as the background for Medusa’s face. The green was an easy pick, I adore R’lyeh! If you want to challenge yourself to figure out what on earth to do with this stamping plate, you can find it for $3.99 here. Enjoy!

Moroccan Tiles in Nude

Copycat Claws posted a blue-and-white moroccan tile design that I love and want to copy‚Ķ but while I am in the hospital I should probably avoid bright blue nails! At least as I started out. So I decided that if I couldn’t do blue, I could at least try nude! (To be fair I pained these back in July, before I realized no one would care much about my nails). That said, these came out well if I do say so myself!

IMG_0040

I used four nude-toned polishes and two shimmery toppers to make this. Since I only have one clear stamper that works well, I had to do each nail individually. It wasn’t DIFFICULT but I did take a long time!

I’ll meet o keep in mind that I have to try this in blue at a later point! I do admit though, it isn’t very harvest-y, and unfortunately I have to admit I didn;t have time to put together a real Thanksgiving mani! But the rest of this week is at least fall-themed :-p. Hope you enjoyed!

Toned Down Frills

I will never give up on nail art! Even if it becomes increasingly harder to manage due to time and¬†responsibilities. Anyway. When I started residency I knew I needed nails that were subtle and pale pink and all that appropriate stuff, but also fancy and fun enough that I wouldn’t be disappointed in myself. Voila!

IMG_3346

So yes,¬†this is the nail art I had on for my first few days of residency. TECHNICALLY I think we are not supposed to have any type of design on our nails? But I don’t¬†remember¬†exactly the rules and its not like I’d ever paint something disrespectful so, we shall see. Hopefully no one gets angry about painted nails!

~ Nude: CND – Cashmere Wrap
~ Rose gold: Essie – Penny Talk
~ Stamp: BP – 181

IMG_9947

I ended going for a nude with a design that is tone-on-tone, and unsurprisingly I suppose not a single person noticed! I have since then worn less subtle designs and so far its been good!

IMG_9946

Anyway, hope you can appreciate my pain at short and subtle nails! Happy Friday!

Grungy Floral Lace

I don’t really know what else to call this? The background is a bit grungy and I should really not have stamped over it with lace, because it really just came out looking messy.

IMG_2094

The base of this is my swatch test for Mauve Nudes, which I then haphazardly dry-brushed over with each color. I went, for some reason that I cannot come up with in hindsight, with a lace floral stamp? And then colored in the flowers with jelly polish and added a gold bead to the middle. I think if the background was a consistent color rather than a mess, that this would have looked good! But alas, it does not.

Colors:
~ Tan nude: Zoya – Chantal
~ Pastel nude: Essense – I Nude It
~ Peach nude: CND – Cashmere Wrap
~ Pastel mauve: KBShimmer – Caught on Tape
~ Mauve: Zoya – Rue
~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black
~ Pink jelly: Zoya – Paloma
~ Red jelly: OPI – My Wish List is You
~ Orange jelly: custom made
~ Stamp: BP – L084

IMG_2095

So, that is a lot of colors for something that looks like it has at maximum 5 colors. Oh well! At least I tried?

IMG_8137

I think I need to stay away from lace on nudes for a while, or just lace stamps n general. The last few manis that I have tried with them just don’t end up looking good!

Swatch Test: Mauve Nudes and Pastel Pinks

Mauve Nudes:¬†I don’t know why I compared these exact colors. I guess I wanted to get a sense of how purple/grey each was? No¬†dupes here!

IMG_7996

From pinky to thumb:
~ Pinky: Zoya РChantal
~ Ringe: Essense – I Nude It
~ Middle: CND – Cashmere Wrap
~ Pointer: KBShimmer – Caught on Tape
~ Thumb: Zoya – Rue

IMG_8000

Every single polish took three thin coats, but all applied well. In terms of colors, Chantal is the most yellow-leaning, while Nude is the palest by far but also leans a bit yellow-pink. Cashmere, Tape, and Rue are almost a gradient of pastel mauve to true mauve. I mostly wanted to reassure myself that Tape and¬†Cashmere¬†weren’t dupes for each other or anything else, and¬†they¬†aren’t! I also quite like both of them, even if they are boring colors!

————————————————————————

Pastel Pinks: So, I wanted to compare my pale pinks and my pale pink shimmer/frosts. Mostly the frosts if I’m being honest! No dupes here, but some of the colors are downright ugly! I also re-used Tape (from above) to compare a pale mauve to a pale pink.

IMG_8446

From pinky to thumb:
~ Pinky: ULTA – Baby Doll
~ Ring: KBShimmer – Caught on Tape
~ Middle: OPI – The Color that Keeps on Giving
~ Ring: ULTA – Freshwater Pearl
~ Thumb: Wet n’ Wild – Private Viewing

IMG_8433

All the polishes took 3 coats except Tape, which took two (I guess I used thicker coats). For the cremes,¬†Doll is more of a true pastel pink than Tape, and is also a bit paler. Private is its own thing and I should have known I didn’t own any dupes! I hate how it looks of me, but it is a useful skin tone color for nail art. For the shimmers, Pearl is more of a nude frost and Giving is a true pink frost. They are actually quite different‚Ķand unsurprisingly I like Peal a lot better! I can see Giving coming in useful‚Ķ.if and only if (hah I just tried to write iff which means the same thing but in python, whoops) someone tells me I need to wear a baby pink shimmer to a wedding. I don’t think that will happen, so away it goes!

Navajo Art

How about a bit of a change of pace? Geometric AND pointy nails! I already showed one mani with pointed nails last week, but I think I have a total of 6 or so of them (before my nails got long enough to cut back to at least squoval). Anyway, here is another new polish as well!

IMG_1829-1

What you see here are¬†three thin coats of Cashmere Wrap by CND. I really like the color, it is a bit of a grey/taupe pastel nude (in a few weeks I’ll do a comparison of similar colors I own, like KBShimmer Caught on Tape). It is basically perfect for a neutral nude base. However, I this is my first CND polish and there are a few things I dislike! Much like OPI, the brush head is too large and barely works on my poor tiny pinky (which is to say polish goes all over my cuticles and skin around my nail despite my best efforts). I also prefer round or square bottles over these elongated ones, but at least the brush handle was easy to hold and work with.

IMG_6871

When I went hunting on the internet for nail designs that look good with “stiletto” nails, I kept coming across geometric patterns! One in particular caught my eye, this one on pinterest from¬†an artist called “manicured” which unfortunately makes her impossible to find!

IMG_6895

As you guys have probably figured out, I love geometric nail art. I know it got really big in 2017 and everyone has moved on but me, but I am still stuck in straight line and triangle wonderland. I love this mani! Also, the color combo reminds me of Native American jewelry that I found in Santa Fe a few years ago, with nude, black, gold, and turquoise.

That’s all for today, I hope you enjoyed! And lets cross our fingers (if you are also on the East Coast) that spring hits eventually. It is cold out!!
