Bali Bursting

Oh goodness you guys, this was a mess. I looked at the polish and went “yay, pastel multichrome!” I should have realized that if that was a possible thing lots of indie brands would have jumped on it. Whoops.

IMG_1665

What you see here is three thin coats of Bali Mist by Sinful Colors…and you can still see my free edge. Also, bubbles, boo! Basically I am fairly certain this is meant to be a topper for a dark-colored polish, I just didn’t use it that way. It really isn’t particularly opaque on its own. That said, when I used my mat and painted it over black I STILL couldn’t see much in the way of a color shift! So, multichrome in the bottle, not so much on the nail or mat.

IMG_1583

I also am not 100% sure where I was going with this design. I love how crisp the stamping is, but I have no idea what it is! Modern?

Anyway, sorry today was a flop! But just wait for Friday…it gets better (it also gets a little stream-of-conscious which should be interesting!).

Hope you enjoyed at least a little!

Dangling Drops

So, this mani has nothing to do with Autumn, winter, or the holidays. It is just glittery.

IMG_7858

Really, this is just a simple stamp from the Born Pretty Store and some purple polish. Yes, it is kinda fun that I stamped with a silver holo polish (glitter!) but that is about it!

IMG_2845

However, the stamp itself is quite nice…it is one of those buffet plates where you can pick up an image from anywhere and it will go well together. I liked the idea of using the edge of the plate to make a dangling drop design, but I could have done anything! It is very well-etched.

Hope you enjoyed! I should have some fall/winter/holiday designs ready by next week. And if you want this stamping plate for yourself, head over to the Born Pretty Store where it is on sale for $1.59.

The Rainbow Fish

I love painting nails inspired by children’s books…and I’ve been wanting to try The Rainbow Fish for a while! I just haven’t had the time (until now).

IMG_6312

The inspiration came from Adventures in Acetone, although I decided to stay true to the book and use only creme polishes for the scales other than the rainbow silver scales. I do wish, in retrospect, that I had used a lighter pink (even though I don’t actually have a good one)!

IMG_6301

The story is about the joy that one person can get from sharing. Its quite a nice message! It also was one of my favorite books growing up (not that I wanted to be taught to share with my sisters) but because the shiny fish scales were just so pretty. This mani is a bit darker than I imagine the fish being, but still pretty and suitably colorful! Who wants to play with silver holo? 🙂

These took FOREVER to paint because I had to do one scale at a time, and couldn’t put two wet dots next to each other or they’d run! I still love the end result though 😀 Hope you enjoyed! It looks like I wasn’t the only one to do Rainbow Fish this year!

Neon Peaking Through

The problem with the prompt for Day 12, stripes, is that although I use a lot of striping tape, I seldom make stripes! I figured that criss-crosses were ok too :-p

IMG_6628

This nail art was inspired by melyne nail art. Melyne used nail vinyl’s rather than striping tape, which both made her application easier and provided her with thicker stripes! Some day I need to invest in nail vinyls :-p although I do also like the way mine came out.

IMG_8937

I think this is arguably the fourth day in the row with neon polishes. I don’t generally use neons that much, but I guess I was hit with the summer neon bug! To me this is funny because last summer and the year before every brand released a lot of neon polishes, which I did not see happen this year. So of course I’ve jumped on the bandwagon years late :-p

No more neon tomorrow! I guess I could have tried for neon animal print, but I doubt I would have liked the result :-p

Glittering Turtle

I painted my nails blue…and then got stuck. What to do with blue nails? There were SO MANY OPTIONS. So, I turned to one of the queens of nail art, and tried to loosely duplicate a mani 😀

IMG_8813

I started off trying to re-create the sea turtle mani by yagala, but got sidetracked. I used stamps instead of free handing…and then decided that if I was going to be wearing gloves over this mani (which I will be, yay for lab work!), that I should probably steer clear of lots of 3D bits. So I added a glittery topper. And then some silver. And I kinda just had fun with it!

IMG_8798

The base color is Over the Moon by Color Club, one of the famed halo hues polishes. I bought it to replace Nfu Oh 065, which has dried to an unusable glop despite being over half full. I have to say though, I am not disappointed in Over the Moon! I used two thin coats here, but I probably could have gotten away with one. The polish is ever so slightly thick, but not hard to work with. And it is holo-y as ANYTHING. Oh my god.

IMG_8759

IMG_8755

I need to convince myself not to go hunting for the rest of the halo hues polishes…so far I only own this blue one and the silver (Harp On It). And they are both amazing! Gah.

Hope you enjoyed the jaunt under the sea! Even if my poor turtle is a tiny bit disproportionate. Whoops!

Wine and Silver Dangles

This begins my quest for the nail art to wear to my wedding! I figured I do in fact want to wear a burgundy (to match the bridesmaids dresses and the calla lilies), but I don’t know what to DO about this purple! My first attempt was a chandelier-type nail art, the likes of which I have done many times in the past.

img_1012

Honestly, I don’t like how these colors go together. When I tested them on my mat they looked good, but the purple-nude is just not right with the reddish purple! If I had a very soft off-white nude (aka the color of my dress) I think that would make a much better base. But, alas! This is all I have.

img_4215

I still LOVE this pattern. But I don’t really think I want to wear this to my own wedding! It is also the only pattern I currently have with any type of a half moon design, so I am posting it for “half moon” day.

img_0996

What’s more, in direct light the colors pop and the purple is vibrant…and in the shade (aka indoors) the purple looks a little like mud brown! Sad.

The other thing this means is that you guys get to see a LOT of purple-based manis coming up. I am also open to suggestions…it is going to be a super weird wedding with Star Wars and Disney music, being held in a science museum! The ceremony is in a planetarium 😀 If you guys can think of something fun and quirky that I should try, let me know!

Holo Lace

Fast and easy, but quite pretty, mani today. I was initially going to use tape (AGAIN) but ended up eyeing my lace-themed stamping plate and grabbing that instead!

IMG_9365

My base here is one of my new Zoyas (despite it being a rather old polish) named Ibiza. Ibiza is a darkened deep blue metallic polish. It is also a one-coater, goes on like a dream, and basically made me swoon. I have no idea how I went so long without buying this polish. Its beautiful. I almost wish I hadn’t covered it with the stamp! I imagine I’ll be using this a lot in the winter

IMG_9260

I was going to just stamp in silver, but my eye fell on Harp On It (a really truly holo silver) and I just had to see if it would work. Voila!

IMG_0666

I tried to move the stamp around to get different parts of the image on my nails, and it mostly worked. Unfortunately, I had some trouble bending the stamper to my cuticles, so I added a partial-ruffian to cover it up. 😦 I really need to get one of those ultra-s    squishy stampers!
