I painted my nails blue…and then got stuck. What to do with blue nails? There were SO MANY OPTIONS. So, I turned to one of the queens of nail art, and tried to loosely duplicate a mani 😀
I started off trying to re-create the sea turtle mani by yagala, but got sidetracked. I used stamps instead of free handing…and then decided that if I was going to be wearing gloves over this mani (which I will be, yay for lab work!), that I should probably steer clear of lots of 3D bits. So I added a glittery topper. And then some silver. And I kinda just had fun with it!
The base color is Over the Moon by Color Club, one of the famed halo hues polishes. I bought it to replace Nfu Oh 065, which has dried to an unusable glop despite being over half full. I have to say though, I am not disappointed in Over the Moon! I used two thin coats here, but I probably could have gotten away with one. The polish is ever so slightly thick, but not hard to work with. And it is holo-y as ANYTHING. Oh my god.
I need to convince myself not to go hunting for the rest of the halo hues polishes…so far I only own this blue one and the silver (Harp On It). And they are both amazing! Gah.

Hope you enjoyed the jaunt under the sea! Even if my poor turtle is a tiny bit disproportionate. Whoops!
This begins my quest for the nail art to wear to my wedding! I figured I do in fact want to wear a burgundy (to match the bridesmaids dresses and the calla lilies), but I don’t know what to DO about this purple! My first attempt was a chandelier-type nail art, the likes of which I have done many times in the past.
Honestly, I don’t like how these colors go together. When I tested them on my mat they looked good, but the purple-nude is just not right with the reddish purple! If I had a very soft off-white nude (aka the color of my dress) I think that would make a much better base. But, alas! This is all I have.
I still LOVE this pattern. But I don’t really think I want to wear this to my own wedding! It is also the only pattern I currently have with any type of a half moon design, so I am posting it for “half moon” day.
What’s more, in direct light the colors pop and the purple is vibrant…and in the shade (aka indoors) the purple looks a little like mud brown! Sad.

The other thing this means is that you guys get to see a LOT of purple-based manis coming up. I am also open to suggestions…it is going to be a super weird wedding with Star Wars and Disney music, being held in a science museum! The ceremony is in a planetarium 😀 If you guys can think of something fun and quirky that I should try, let me know!
I needed something elegant and black/silver to match an outfit of mine. When trying to figure out what to do, I remembered these beautiful water decals I was sent to test out by Lady Queen, a nail art supply store that is a lot like the Born Pretty Store! So, ta-da, awesome swirly decals 🙂
Honestly, the shop at Lady Queen has a lot of the same things as the Born Pretty Store, just in slightly different patterns. So, if you can’t find a water decal or rhinestone at one, just look at the other! The prices are about the same as well.
These decals were a dream to work with. 15 seconds of soaking was sufficient to loosen then from their backing, and they placed easily without folding all over themselves or breaking apart. They are also the perfect size for my nails right now 😀
I do love using water decal designs, they make everything go faster! And these ones are suitably cool and creepy. Boyfriend approved as well 🙂
If you want to pick up these decals, head over to Lady Queen! They are on sale for $1.39, and you get 20 decals (enough for two full manis). Additionally, I have a 15% off code, BPLC15! (15 > 10, go Lady Queen! Born Pretty Store only offers 10% discounts).
Oh look, a pink manicure :-p. This one isn’t precisely Valentines-themed, but I figured the colors work so I might as well post it! This mani took a lot of time, because my two accent nails and my thumb were made from a stamping decal. Namely, Bundle Monster plate 604, where I then painted over every single tiny opening with a gradient of pink holographic polishes. It took forever, but I’m really proud of how it came out!
It is a bit sad that even hand-placing a decal, I can’t get everything 100% centered. Oy. It is also slightly sad that I couldn’t come up with anything more fun for my pinky and pointer nails, but I was SO TIRED OF LINES that I just went with dots. And because they are super-glittery, I think its ok!
My thumb ended up being my favorite, because I basically didn’t have to trim down the design. As it turns out, the most recent set of Bundle Monster plates fits absolutely perfectly on my nail. Which means that if I was able to stamp with perfect precision, it would be great (I can’t, so I tend to have to double stamp my thumbs, but it did make it very easy to apply the decal!).

All the pink holographic glitters! This might be the prettiest mani from this week (I think everything this week ended up being stamp-related. Oops!) so I hope you enjoy!
This mani was painted because I wanted to see what would happen if I combined all three of my ILNP multi chromes and then added silver holographic lines. Basically, SO MUCH COLOR. Even though there are only 4 nail polishes visible and one of those is silver.
The interesting insight into this (I had no real plan) was my boyfriend (oh god, do I have to call him fiancé? frightening!), who immediately told me that it looked like “the stained glass in Abhorsen’s house” from the Sabriel/Lirael/Abhorsen trilogy. He is totally right. Complete with quasi-magical color shifting!
Depending on how I look at my nails, I am getting an entire rainbow from three colors. It’s awesome. Mutagen is doing a pink-green-blue thing, Birefringence is doing teal-blue-purple, and Masquerade is doing magenta-orange-gold-green. It’s killing me. And the holo in Harp On It (Color Club) is just icing on the rainbow cake! I should mention that these are all brushed on free-hand over black creme, except obviously Harp On It. That was freehanded with a striping brush.
For all that this mani took less than 20 minutes, it looks EPIC. Seriously. Colors! I need to try a real gradient with these three colors, somehow.
Gah. Ok. I’ll try to contain my photo-taking-madness. Magic nails! I know these aren’t actually book-based, but I didn’t have anything else and once Abhorsen was mentioned I just had to use them!
I wanted to try stamping with Harp On It from the Halo Hues collection by Color Club. I had seen so many awesome examples of stamps with those polishes, and i just needed to know if it would work! Verdict: it does.
This is a simple mani. Black base (Black on Black by Sinful Colors) with a puzzle stamp (BM 319) using Harp On It. Before I added top coat, you could clearly see the silver of Harp On it…
After top coat, the silver faded a bit to just glitter. However, it was still beautiful! (If a bit more subtle).
The whole thing lit up in the sun. My camera wouldn’t even focus for all the glittery goodness! I call that a win.
Short post today. Hope you enjoyed!
