Pastel 4th of July

Since I was in the cardiac intensive care unit over the fourth of July last year, I needed nails that celebrated the holiday without being super blingy! I decided to make some pastel toned flags…and then to use grey-out holo polish so it was a bit more subtle indoors (it helped that OUTDOORS my nails were super glittery) 🙂

This mani, predictably, took quite some time since I had to use an infinite number of strips of striping tape! That said, I think the end result was worth it. These came out pretty darn cool! Even if they were far more subtle than my typical 4th of July art!

I hope all of my American readers get to enjoy the fireworks tomorrow! I am off tomorrow night, so if I am lucky and we don’t get a deluge of rain, I will hopefully see some colorful explosions myself!

Flag Nails

Happy 4th of July! I am on call overnight tonight, which is incredibly unfortunate, because I love fireworks! Maybe if I’m lucky I can sneak off to the tall tower in the hospital and watch the fireworks from there.

Anyway, these nails are actually from LAST 4th of July, because I didn’t get them edited in time. I do, in fact, have flags on my nails right now, but you shall see them next year! Also, this means that you get to see some freehand today, rather than more stamping (which, lets be honest, will be back on Friday). Today is also the first time I’ll be wearing really visible nail art to the hospital…so we will see what happens. Hopefully everyone either ignores it or is cool with it!

The design here was inspired by badgirlnails because she does wonderful skittlettes. And also because I really never use some of my crazy holographic glitters.

Anyway, hope you enjoy the fireworks (if you are in the US), and if not then I hope it isn’t too hot out wherever you are!

This is the white flag of surrender. It is the last mani I managed to paint before I had to go back to boring work-appropriate nails for my return to the hospital. I almost made it…but not quite 😦 What that means is that the few manis I didn’t get to will show REALLY short nails (technically, yesterday’s and the 30th). I paint out of order :-p

I also am disappointed because I stamped with grey…but it is apparently a yellow-toned grey so the stamp looks like a dirty tan. I should have used my other grey! I don’t really pay attention to the components of a polish pigment-wise. Whoops.

Overall, this is sad mani which is fitting since I was surrendering to my utter lack of control over my life! Timing failures. :-(. So yes, this mani is unfortunate but that was moderately intentional.

That being said, tomorrow’s post is one of my favorites in a long time…and it was painted a LONG time ago! Ergo I had time and my nails were suitably long. Sorry!

Today’s challenge theme was “flag” and I really couldn’t think of anything more appropriate than the gay pride flag. I’m not the type of person to put a rainbow haze over my profile picture on Facebook, but I will show my support for the Supreme Court ruling on marriage equality through art!

So, here is my support flag! Also rainbows. This was totally free-handed, thus I can somewhat safely say that I can pull off straight lines at this point 🙂

~ Green: Sinful Colors – Exotic Green
~ Blue: Zoya – Ling
~ Purple: Sephora X – Ignition
~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black

I added the heart stamp for obvious reasons. So, in case anyone cares, this blog supports love, regardless of which gender its for!

Hope you enjoyed! Happy rainbows 🙂

American Flagged

Tomorrow is the 4th of July, aka independence day! Or really, fireworks day 🙂 I love fireworks! I’m trying to (somewhat) stick to the OMD3 challenges, so I went with silver today and decided to do my USA mani a day early! Also, I am at a wedding right now and the dress doesn’t quite matching red, white, and blue, so I had to get this out of the way earlier.

This mani was really easy, if a bit time consuming. I started with blue or silver nails, and added striping tape and red polish or silver dots depending on the nail. The kicked is, I ended up with 51 dots total. I wasn’t counting.

So, happy early birthday, USA, and I hope any of my readers in America get to see some fireworks tomorrow! And I hope I can sneak away from the wedding festivities to see some as well :-p

The Flags of Middle Earth – 31DC2014

I have always disliked “flag” day in the 31 day challenge…I try to come up with something inspiring and I usually fail. This time, I think I did NOT fail. At least, if you are a nerd 😀

I have on my nails the flags of Middle Earth from Lord of the Rings! Unfortunately, a lot of the real flags do not get described in the books (or portrayed in the movie) but I made do with what the internet told me. Ideally, I wanted at least one Elven flag, but those really don’t seem to exist!

The flags:
-Pinky: The feather quill of the Shire
-Ring: The white hand of Saruman
-Middle: The white tree, crown, and 7 stars of Gondor
-Pinter: The white horse rampant of Rohan
-Thumb: The golden arrow of Dale (little known kingdom of men, killed by the dragon Smaug)

This was a lot of fun to make and actually remarkably fast! The detail work only took about 30 minutes.

~ Green: Sinful Colors – Exotic Green
~ Blue: Maybelline – Midnight Swim
~ Gold: Essie – Penny Talk

Enjoy! I should also probably warn you readers…this was the last post that I had done ahead of time. I am now flying by the seat of my pants as to what I get done and edited in time! So let’s hope I can keep up!

Day 28: Flag (Israeli Flag)

This particular design was a no-brainer. I decided to try it the day after Yom Kippur, and it made me feel a bit better about not being able to fast (metabolic condition, I pass out if I fast all day). Unfortunately, the lines on this design are not the straightest, but I didn’t have enough time to tape everything and I had to free-hand with my non-dominant hand!

Regardless, I think this came out pretty well. Lots of stripes and a few stars…in blue and white! I usually free-hand stripes with my normal nail art brush…but I just figured out the POINT of a striping brush! Just lay it across your nail and pull up! So, some of these lines are better than others. Always a learning curve.

I’m actually particularly proud of how the star on my thumb came out. And this is probably the only mani I’ve ever done that my mother would approve of (she only likes “pale pink normal colored nails”….and jewish things).
