Green Glaciers

This was a multi-step process. I wanted to make glaciers because I was traveling to Iceland. So, I decided to start with a greyed shimmery base…but used Memory Palace which is really a teal. I put away my grey gradient, and grabbed a teal gradient instead to make the glaciers. The end result was rather cool…but very teal-green. I asked my husband what I should add and he goes “northern lights”. Now, the northern lights are usually teal/green, and obviously that wouldn’t work, so I coarse-sponged on a tiny purple/red/yellow gradient. That looked surprisingly cool (thanks husband!) but it needed more oomph…so I added some rainbow flakies using Festival. Voila!

I did end up using one of the new items from the Born Pretty Store to make the mountains (the darkest green thin line). I wasn’t sure these would stamp because the lines are so darn thin, but it worked just fine! The plate has a whole bunch of awesome mountain/waterfall/water full nail images that I used in a different mani that you’ll see soon.

Icy Penguins

Christmas and winter manis galore! Starting out this week with something more winter-y than Christmas-y, but we’ll get there!

This design was inspired by badgirlnails. I just need to permanently bookmark everything she does. These are adorable!

I was actually brave enough to wear this to the children’s hospital while I was rotating there, and the few people who noticed them loved it. So, score!

Ice Leaves

Blue and shiny! I really like this manicure, its rather different than what I usually go for! This is another that has been sitting in the vaults. I have at lest 6 back-logged blue manis, but this is probably my favorite so I am showing it now (the others can wait…or I can try and stick them in for other days later in the challenge).

This design was inspired by Urban Nail Art, you can find her initial design (for which she used non-polish, go figure!) on instagram. Also, this is a great example of make your watermark readable…one of my readers figured out who did the initial design because I couldn’t read the watermark to track it down! It’s also a sad example of why pinterest can be terrible.

I used too many blues to list, so I won’t bother. Suffice to say there was lots of sponging involved in this! Once the blues were done, I outlined the veins with dark blue and then silver holographic polish.

This took longer than expected, mostly due to all of the sponging of blues that I did to set the tone for the nail art. The dark blue and silvery holo just made everything better!

Hope you enjoyed! Purple Day tomorrow is also gonna be awesome…mostly cause of the polish and not the design.

Sleet and Snow

It is time for snowflakes! I just went ahead and grabbed two holo polishes that I don’t play with enough, and a whole bunch of Bundle Monster stamps. Some of them worked better than others…but still, shiny! I love winter manis 🙂 (so now we have two days of partial Bundle Monster fails)

The raindrop (sleet? odd lines?) stamp works…ok. It isn’t great but it does show up. Oddly, the single snowflake stamp is on the same plate and it is barely etched. I had to really work to get it to transfer! This is unfortunate since the whole-nail snowflakes from a different plate stamp beautifully but they aren’t NEARLY as much fun as that one stunning snowflake! Oy.

~ Black holo: Zoya – Storm
~ Grey holo: Darling Diva – Black Diamond
~ White: Sinful Colors – Snow me White
~ Stamps: Bundle Monster – 319, 323

I need to bring back those Darling Diva holos, they are awesome! I kinda forgot that they were one-coaters. Enjoy! Winter manis for the win!

Cracks in the Ice – 31DC2014

I have so much fun playing with magnetic polishes! This mani (for metallic day) was inspired by a magnetic + stamp pin by nailXchange, only I chose to do the stamp over a magnetic GRADIENT because they are one of my new favorite things.

I had my long-suffering boyfriend pick out which two of my 4 magnetic polishes I should use for this gradient, and went to town! I was thinking of trying to gradient stamp as well, but decided that simple is better for something like this.

– Grey metallic: Nails Inc – Trafalger Square
– Teal metallic: Nails Inc – Whitehall
– Silver: A England – Excalibur
– Stamp: Bundle Monster – 208

I still cannot get over the whole gradient-with-magnetic thing. My boyfriend (yes, he-of-infinte-patience) thought this mani looked like cracked ice when I was done with it, hence the title! Enjoy!
