Fiery Warmth

This mani is quite random…and was very painful to make trying to line up all those straight lines! That said, I love how bright it came out!

The initial idea was to create a blanket or scarf pattern on my nails, like a knit. I also one I wanted to use warm fire colors (oranges and reds and yellows) and the plan was to use a purple…but when I tried that it overwhelmed everything else so I removed it. Somehow, we ended up here!

I didn’t actually know I had this many plaid-like patterns among my stamping plates. I also did not fully figure on how darn difficult lining up those thin silver stripes would be. I almost resorted to using striping tape, but decided I really did want a 100% stamped mani. Ouch.

~ Orange: Essie – Playing Koi
~ Red: OPI – Visions of Love
~ Silver: A England – Excalibur

So what do you think? Does it look even a little scarf/blanket-like? Or just very warm-toned? :-p

Pastel Pink Peacock

New polish! Even if it is in the nude range, I still like it. I have also bought a bunch of shimmery glittery polishes recently, that I am going to pretend I will be able to wear next year. The hospital is hiring me to work, not to have tame nails, right?

This was also fun because I completely forgot that I owned this stamp, somehow. I don’t know that taupe-with-silver are really peacock colors, but I like it anyway! Mostly because glitter makes everything better.

What you see here are three thin coats of Caught on Tape by KBShimmer, but I very easily could have done two if I made the coats just a hair thicker! The polish is a very pretty purple-grey leaning pale pink nude. That is quite a description…but I will hopefully have comparisons to some other nude/neutrals up in the next month or so, so you can see what I mean!

The glittery polish in this design (Rosewater) is probably the polish I most want to use as soon as I can use colors again…it is just so darn shimmery!!

~ White: Sinful Colors – Snow me White
~ Pink shimmer: ILNP – Rosewater

Anyway, hope you somewhat enjoyed this! And again, that maybe some of this works as inspiration if you have an interview or formal event but want pretty nails regardless :-p

Darkened Desert

This mani isn’t quite winter-themed, but I think the dark colors work regardless. Also, I really couldn’t think of what to call this mani but the colors remind me of the Southwest so desert it is!

What you see here are two coats of O R’YLEH (which, how do I correctly uncapitolize? O R’yleh? O R’Yleh?) by Great Lakes Lacquer. This polish really could have been opaque in one coat but I didn’t know that, so my application was uneven. That said, the polish is a bit thicker than I expected and you need to work fast or it will dry and drag.

The polish itself is beautiful, with a dark green base with lots of holo shimmer. It also has a multichrome shimmer to it that shifts from bright fuchsia pink through copper and to gold. It’s a chameleon! Unfortunately, it was also a Polish Pickup Pack October exclusive, so as far as I know there is no way to buy it. But if you like the concept, think about joining the PPP before this month’s offers are gone too!

~ Green: Great Lakes Lacquer – O R’YLEH
~ Rose gold: Essie – Penny Talk
~ Orange: ULTA – Sun of a Gun
~ Yellow: KBShimmer – Orange You Glad I Didn’t Say Banana?
~ Teal: Zoya – Wednesday
~ Stamp: BM – XL205

I don’t know exactly how I ended up with this color scheme, but it doesn’t look half bad. I wouldn’t typically mix orange, teal, and yellow (ewwww yellow) with something like a deep green. Or a rose gold!

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed, and happy almost New Years! I don’t plan at this moment to have a special New Years post, but maybe I can find something I haven’t had time to post that I sufficiently glittery. If not, I’ll just kick off my “top 10 of 2017” posts with regards to my favorite polishes and nail art.

All That Glitters

This nail art looks rather…bad, and is very old! These are from LAST Christmas, but by the time I got them onto my computer it was January so I didn’t post them. The photos were also taken 4 days after the design was painted, which is why there is so much growth at my nail bed, sorry!

For some reason, when I went for a week to celebrate Christmas with my husband’s family last year, I basically only brought glittery polish. No, I don’t know what I was thinking. So, I had to put together a Christmas mani with nothing but glitter….no stamping plates, and very little else. Honestly, this is actually too much glitter for me. I never thought I’d say that, but sometimes it happens! You can hardly see the design edges for the glitter!

~ Gold: Zoya – Ziv
~ Green: Zoya – Ivanka
~ Red: KBShimmer – Ruby

As you probably figured, this begins my Christmas manis…I’ll have another one on Friday and next Monday. Please go vote for me at Nail Polish Canada so I can win some pretties here, and hope you enjoyed!

Flakie Overlay

I think the theme of this week is “things Eva matted.” However, unlike Monday’s post, I am really sad that this mani did not end up glossy!

The design was inspired by @kgrdnr, as many good things are. I mostly just wanted to use Ski Lodge by ILNP because it somehow found its way onto my desk. However, then I decided it wasn’t quite glittery enough, and I added some flakies over top. Voila!

Despite being really simple, I think this came out rather awesome. I have missed working with dark greens (they are not an approved-of color in the hospital or on the interview trail), and holographic + flakie polishes are an awesome combination.

~ Dark green creme: Sinful Colors – Last Chance
~ Dark green holo: ILNP – Ski Lodge
~ Green flakies: Lyn B Designs – The Speed of Light, you Know
~ Gold: Salon Perfect – Gold Leaf
~ Matte: KBShimmer – Oh Matte!

Regardless, you can also see why I am sad I matted this! Usually I am all-for matted flakies, but I ended up removing some of the depth in the design and certainly in getting rid of the awesome holo inherent in Ski Lodge. Oops! I’ll likely try a similar design with a different color, and I just need to remember to keep it glossy 🙂

Dark Lapis

The way this ended up, it looks like a super dark lapis lazuli stone! If I was really going to lapis I would have needed to use a gold-based glitter rather than a silver one, but I still like it. Unfortunately, the mani did end up quite dark. I suppose I could have placed the marble over white rather than blue, but it needed to match a specific dress!

To create this, I marbled polish on water, waited around 2 hours for it to dry completely, and then removed it. I then cut out decals from the dried polish, which is a first for me! I’ve been wanting to try this method of making water marble designs (lifting the marble once dry) for a while but never had the time to plan and execute it.

~ Blue: Sally Hansen – Blue my Mind
~ Dark blue: Zoya – Ibiza
~ Blue with silver: KBShimmer – Sapphire

Sadly, most of the photos I have of this design are out of focus, so there are only three pictures! Also, in retrospect, I have no idea how Sapphire marbled so well given its glitter content, but go KBShimmer!

Growing Flowers

Orange day in the 31 Day Challenge! I actually have other orange manis, but this used the MOST shades of orange so I think it goes here!

Unfortunately, this mani had a lot of problems. Neither plate I tried to use (the zig-zags and the flowers) actually stamps well at ALL, and I don’t know why I wanted to make the flowers appear to be growing when having them all the same height on my nail would have looked better! Moreover, the peachy-orange base looked super strange on my nails.

The Born Pretty Store sent me the floral plate, BP-L067 to use. And I LOVE the designs on it. That said, the first copy they sent me (the one I used here) was etched so subtly that almost no polish would work with it. I had to try with every black polish I own. I ended up contacting the store and they sent me a replacement (which obviously I did not have a chance to use with this mani) which is perfectly etched and makes me very happy. I don’t know that I’ll get around to posting it in the 31 Day Challenge, but if I do I’ll let you all know. The plate has some spectacular floral images, perfect for advanced stamping (aka coloring the designs in).

When the OPI Washington DC collection came out, there were a few polishes I really wanted, and Freedom of Peach was one of them. I didn’t own anything like it! Unfortunately, there was a reason for that. This is three thin coats of Freedom of Peach. The polish did not self-level very well at all, and the color looks quite strange on my nails! Almost a nude, but with orange in it. I don’t like it. I imagine on other skin tones it would looks better, but with mine it is completely meh.

~ Peach: OPI – Freedom of Peach
~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black
~ White: Sinful Colors – Snow me White
~ Lightest orange: KBShimmer – Orange You Glad I Didn’t Say Banana?
~ Bright orange: Zoya – Thandie
~ Medium orange: ULTA – Sun of a Gun
~ Dark orange: Essie – Playing Koi
~ Green: Zoya – Tilda
~ Stamps: BP – L067 and X06

So, even though these are ridiculously complicated nails, I don’t love them! They are orange though, so here you go. If you want to buy the stamping plate (which again, watch for etching issues but the images are amazing) you can find it at the Born Pretty Store for $2.59. Enjoy!
