I’ve been wanting to do lightning nails for years, and kept thinking I had done it before…but I haven’t! So, have some lightning :-D. It might not be supernatural but it looks darn magical so I’m just going to go with it.
I will actually sit in the window during a lightning or thunder storm, just to watch the jagged flashes of light. Lightning is awesome. Scary, but awesome. On my nails it is distinctly less scary, but really still awesome!
These particular ones were inspired by Celinas_Ryden, although I added more teal and more purple than she did! These also took longer than I expected, but realistically less time than they could have!

Hope you have a dazzling day! Or something equally pun-y :-p. With this, we have almost reached the end of the 31 Day Challenge. Woah. Also, it is apparently my 4th anniversary of blogging! Which actually kinda insane if I stop to think about it! Happy blogaversary to me I suppose!
As soon as I put on this stormy blue, I knew I needed to paint on some rainstorms! It helps that I love cumulonimbus clouds. So here we have the transition from sunny to stormy, on nails!
The base here is (yet another) Textured Earth Tone polish by Mentality called Kaolin. It is a grey-blue with a slight hint of shimmer, and dries down to a nice matte. It is one of the more textured polishes from this collection, but all of the texture is in the form of small granules. Two thin coats shown here.
I added clouds with white and grey, and then some golden lightening and a sun. Whee!
~ Blue: Mentality – Kaolin
~ White: Mentality – Spackle
~ Grey: Mentality – Pozzolana
~ Gold: Mentality – Loess
You can purchase the misty blue Kaolin here for $6.75! The rest of the collection can be found here. And don’t forget, free US shipping!
The start of this “supernatural” mani is Masquerade by I Love Nail Polish. I am a huge fan of multi chromes, and I just couldn’t resist picking this one up in my last order! To avoid covering all of her loveliness up, I added some strokes of black lightening (with gold highlights). It looks so cool/creepy!
I might also add that this was the mani I was wearing when the boy proposed. So this mani got featured (sneakily) earlier this month! It is ALSO my two-year blogaversary! 🙂 I should put together a giveaway, yes? Maybe when this challenge ends…
Masquerade is a beautiful magenta – gold – green multi chrome. Opaque in two thicker or three thinner coats, self-leveling, not streaky, and AWESOMELY color shifting! I think the color shift might be even more pronounced than in my reigning favorite, Birefringence…mostly because the pink to green to gold is more striking than blue to purple to green.
This was just a lot of fun to wear! Lots of colors and shiftiness 🙂
– Pink/gold/green multi chrome: ILNP – Masquerade
– Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black
– Gold: Catrice – Genius in the Bottle
Hope you enjoyed! Only two days left in the challenge. And then I DO NOT HAVE TO POST ON WEEKENDS ANYMORE!
This mani was painted because I wanted to see what would happen if I combined all three of my ILNP multi chromes and then added silver holographic lines. Basically, SO MUCH COLOR. Even though there are only 4 nail polishes visible and one of those is silver.
The interesting insight into this (I had no real plan) was my boyfriend (oh god, do I have to call him fiancé? frightening!), who immediately told me that it looked like “the stained glass in Abhorsen’s house” from the Sabriel/Lirael/Abhorsen trilogy. He is totally right. Complete with quasi-magical color shifting!
Depending on how I look at my nails, I am getting an entire rainbow from three colors. It’s awesome. Mutagen is doing a pink-green-blue thing, Birefringence is doing teal-blue-purple, and Masquerade is doing magenta-orange-gold-green. It’s killing me. And the holo in Harp On It (Color Club) is just icing on the rainbow cake! I should mention that these are all brushed on free-hand over black creme, except obviously Harp On It. That was freehanded with a striping brush.
For all that this mani took less than 20 minutes, it looks EPIC. Seriously. Colors! I need to try a real gradient with these three colors, somehow.
Gah. Ok. I’ll try to contain my photo-taking-madness. Magic nails! I know these aren’t actually book-based, but I didn’t have anything else and once Abhorsen was mentioned I just had to use them!
