Dots and Roses on Teal

This caused me soooo many headaches. You can’t tell, but I repainted my pinky 4 times. I started with it teal (because I wasn’t paying attention and I usually start with all my nails the same color). I dinged that, so I painted over it in white. That took 20 minutes to dry so I seriously dinged it and removed the whole mess. Then I just painted it white…and while finishing my other hand accidentally hit the drying white polish against TAPE so it was all over. I finally cleaned it fully (instead of just wiping off the polish), added base coat and painted it white, carefully. And then moved very very slowly for about 20 minutes until it was dry.

Other than my pinky, this was not a very difficulty manicure! The lines are a stamp, and everything else, while freehanded, was pretty easy. The hardest part was keeping the dots straight on my ring finger and thumb. I do wish I had made the roses larger on my middle finger, but I was having fun with tiny roses! And I am proud of my ring finger. The roses almost look respectable 😀

The design is lifted directly from Paulina’s Passions. It turns out this is from 2014, which tells you a bit about how long it was sitting in my untried ideas! Yikes

I realize that Monday’s post was also a bunch of circles and dots, but this one had MORE dots, so I am posting it for Dot Day! Hope you enjoyed!

Bright Teal and Dark Roses

This was fun, and almost-but-not-quite perfect! Regardless of the imprecations (entirely my fault with color selection) I enjoyed wearing this! I also don’t know why I don’t actually have more floral manicures to post. What have I been painting if not flower?!

The design was inspired by @ponkle. In retrospect I wish I had used a brighter pink for the base of the roses! This ended up looking almost neon-with-goth because of the dark roses. I love it anyway. Of course, I also cheated. The dots are freehand and everything else is stamping 🙂

Bright Patchwork

It isn’t technically winter yet! Also, as of writing this, it has been unseasonably warm in Philly. So…fall themes are still appropriate!

Although, to be fair, I think I’d find a way to use rainbows no matter the season, but since patchwork designs somehow scream “autumn” I don’t feel terrible for postponing posting these until now!

I actually painted these back when I posted the fall-themed patchwork nails (the orange ones) but these were done with stamping decals to compare. Unsurprisingly, I liked the free-handed ones significantly more, but these were so much faster!

Rose Gold Roses

I feel like a LOT of my recent manis have involved flowers, so picking something for the “flowers” prompt in the 31 Day Challenge was both easy and exasperating. That said, this mani is interesting to me, because I like the concept but I hate the polish that I was trying to model! Oops. Polishes that take more than three coats to be opaque are evil.

The design was inspired by this pin, which has no watermark at all so I have no idea who’s nails those are! But it is pretty so I wanted to try it.

I got a pink glittery polish as a gift, and I wanted to test it out. On my pointer and pinky is 4 (!!!) somewhat thick coats of Gold ‘n Roses by Sinful Colors. I don’t know if this polish is meant to be a topper or not, but it is NOT opaque enough to be worth wearing on its own. The polish is primarily lots of pink shimmer/tiny glitter with larder silver shards. The color isn’t bad, but it took soo many coats that when I added top coat the whole darn thing shrunk! My free edges have their own personal angles now, distinct from the shape of the polish on the rest of the nail.

My thumb has two coats of a matched base color with two coats of Gold n’ Roses overtop, and honestly it looks very similar to the fingers with just Gold n’ Roses…so maybe that is how it should be worn? Seems like a lot of work for a mediocre polish! Also, the polish is rose gold and silver, there is no “gold” in it at all despite the name!

I half wish that I painted over the shimmery pink sometime while I wore this to make it more interesting, or added holo topcoat. Alternatively, I bet this would have been stunning with ILNP Juliette! I don’t need any more rose gold polishes :-p. Hope you enjoyed!

Neon Print

Gradient time! Gradients are one of my favorite things to do with my nails, since it allows me to use a bunch of colors. And then, typically, cover the gradient with a stamp for added design :-p

When I was putting this together, I thought the colors might actually be too bright (because wow, neon). I was initially planning to cover more of the gradient as a result, but I like the amount showing! I ended up using another Born Pretty Store stamp, but this one works like a charm. I’ve actually even used the super-coverage designs on this plate and they stamped beautifully, which I’ve never had work for me before!

So, when it comes to gradients this hurts my eyes but is awesome, and when it comes to stamping plates this one makes me very happy, both for the etching and for the variety in patterns. Win-win!

Have some animated-film nail art! I don’t actually know why I thought I’d be able to do Stitch’s face well…I am really really bad at drawing faces even on PAPER much less on NAILS. Oh well! Even if he looks like a little monster, it is still cute.

This was inspired by tinas_polish, and her Stitch is ADORABLE. Unlike my demon-spawn (which is technically l accurate, but I was trying to go for cute).

I think I have 1-2 more animated film manis ready to post after this Challenge is over! Soooo cloooose…lets see if I can make it through!

Coral, Pink, and Gold

I had been missing water marbles…so I went ahead and did one! I have been seeing a lot of pink + coral + gold, so I used that color theme.

Ever since I got Clearwater by Pipe Dream Polish, I have taken great glee out of water marbling over a metallic polish that would NEVER otherwise be usable…like Good as Gold by essie. Metallics do not marble!

This was fast and dirty…I just did a fun looking pattern in the marbled polish and dipped my whole darn hand in at once. I usually don’t do that, but I didn’t feel like wasting a whole bunch of polish and I was getting impatient with myself. Despite my rush, the whole thing came out looking alright!

Psychedelic Swirl Stars

Another mid-surgery post to review a stamping plate from the Born Pretty Store! Unlike Monday, when I went with black and gold and striking…this time I went with NEONS (because it’s summer and I like bright colors). Again, sorry for the tiny nails and lack of sunlight photo, but the weather didn’t cooperate and I only got to wear these for a day!

I did a yellow-pink-purple gradient, but in the images it looks yellow-orange-pink! Which is still nice, but the non-direct-light photos are far more color accurate! It doesn’t matter for the stamp (since black is black) but still.

The stamping plate I got from the Born Pretty Store has a really cool set of designs on it…bendy lines with dots, squiggly flowers, swirls and stars (which I used here), and a truly awesome art nouveau geometric pattern that I am dying to work with when my nails are longer! I had 0 trouble picking up the image, despite the tiny dots. This mani was fun!

Rainbow Neon Beams

Although I did this nail art a while ago, I thought it fitting to post this week. I am and have been incredibly saddened that hatred (and a completely ridiculous number of guns) have been allowed to flourish in the USA. Do. Not. Hate. ANYONE. I’m not going to make a political statement here, except that homophobia is unacceptable, and anyone should be allowed to love whomever they want. At this point, anyone who disagrees is being willfully malicious.

Regardless, today I have some awesome neon rainbow nail art! These nails somehow came out 100% perfect. I went through 5 stamping plates before I found the right one, and I am so happy I looked! Yes, my thumb is asymmetric and looks odd. I accept that. The rest however, look amazing.

This awesome neon insanity was inspired by simplynailogial, although I think she freehanded her black lines (which, wow, that must have taken FOREVER).

Someday I am going to use these colors again and do something even more crazy…this gradient is one of my favorites I’ve ever done! Someone needs to make it a rule that women can wear whatever they want on their nails at work. *sigh*

That’s all for today! Enjoy the neon and gradients and lines and other wonderful things, happy Friday, and let’s hope that at some point in our lives, person hate-fueled violence becomes a thing of the past (I know, I’m aiming too high, but I can dream!).

Purple Bursting

More stamps! More CENTERED stamps! With awesome starbursts 😀 Seriously, clear stampers are magic. I had been wanting to use this stamp for months, but had to acknowledge that no matter what I did with it, it was going to look awkward and off-center. Ergo, magic!

The stamping was done over the shades of purple water marble you guys saw a few weeks ago. I liked the marble so much I took pictures of it independently, but it was never meant to stand alone!

I don’t know why I decided doing starbursts over random marbling was the best idea, but it came out alright! I still need to try a radial gradient with circle stamping again. This time maybe it’ll actually work!

Upon a Purple Sea

Awesomely fun water marble! I knew I wanted to use a bunch of purples and Clearwater by Pipe Dream Polish, but I had a lot of trouble figuring out what to use as the base which would peek through! I had somehow forgotten that I had a light purple scattered holo polish, and it worked beautifully!

Seriously though, Milani wins the award for “polishes that don’t dry out even if you forget about them for years”. I honestly cannot remember the last time I used this polish (at LEAST a year ago) and it is still as flow-y and wonderful as the day I got it! It also still takes three thickish coats to be opaque :-p

~ Purple-pink creme: Love & Beauty – Pink
~ Purple creme: Sephora X – Ignition

I also managed to dip all 5 fingers in one go! I just kept marbling and swirling. The last (ingenious) step was to circle-swirl the marble, so the nails didn’t look uniform at all. Voila! Super easy.

Hope you enjoyed! Tomorrows mani is terrible. Potentially terribly awesome (my boyfriend loved it) but it made me cringe to wear it, so here’s your warning!

Cupcake Melt

Today’s challenge theme was “fast food” but I refuse to paint hamburgers on my nails, so I went with fast food dessert instead! This mani is inspired by cutepolish and her lovely tutorial.

IMG_4008-1 (dragged)

Basically, cupcakes! Or strawberry ice cream. Really, who knows! I like these drips though…cutepolish suggested continuing to use the dotting tool to create the continuation of the drips (I have always switched back to a nail art brush) and this way works so much better! Go figure.

Hope you enjoyed my tasty nails!

Dinosaurs! This mani is dedicated to David and Andrea (although there is <1% possibility that David reads this!!). They came to visit and they LOVE dinos, so I had to go with it! It helps that Bundle Monster conveniently provided dino stamps 🙂

So, these colors are (obviously) not accurate :-p. But there are 4 types of awesome reptiles! My pinky has a pterodactyl (although it is unfortunately upside down…thats what you get when you rush applying decals!), my ring finger has a triceratops, my middle finger has what is probably a brontosaurus, and my pointer has t-rex! I did not bother to add feathers :-p

I made all of the dinos as stamping decals, which is why I ended up with bubbles on my nails. I still haven’t figured a way around this! If anyone has any tips, lemme know?

Burgundy Floral

I’m leaving you lovely readers with something to look at over the weekend! This is a bit of simple floral art that I’ve put together around India by Zoya, inspired by kimiko7878.

India is a deep red which leans pink, with ample shimmery glitter (mostly gold) running through it. It covers nicely in two thin coats, with perfect control. This polish manages to be elegant while being fun! Well done Zoya 🙂

I didn’t feel like stamping over the dark color (which is my normal go-to on swatch posts) so I decided to make a floral accent nail instead! I still need to work on my flowers, but this isn’t terrible.

Shatter Swirls

So, I have a hunch you guys like polish. And I have some awesome news for you: a shiny awesome new polish AND a 20% discount code! As a happy holidays gifts for all my readers, Mentality is offering 20% off ANY ORDER (they have been running a 20% off orders of $50 or more all month, but this is 20% off anything and is just for you guys!). The best part? It’s my name! The code is “EVA“. And now I have one of their newest polishes, Shatter. With nail art…because I’m me.

Shatter is a holographic jellychrome (rather than a matte). This is the shiny-finish polish that is a sister to Spree which I showed you last week. Shatter went on perfectly, no joke. Opaque in two thin coat (I probably could have gotten away with one!) and no clean up. None. It went right were I put it! The polish has a pink base with a strong dose of golden glass-fleck glitter and a smattering of holographic sparkle. The holo only comes out under sunlight, but even without it the polish is STUNNING. Like woah. Shown here is no top coat.

Once I was done staring at Shatter, I added some swirls and dots. It just seemed like such a pretty girly elegant polish that I had to do something elegant rather than shocking! I rather like the end result.

~ Pink glitter: Mentality – Shatter
~ Pink: Love & Beauty – Pink
~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black

I really want to try paring Shatter with Faye by Zoya…they have the same wonderful golden fleck finish (Faye is a purple base). ANYWAY. You can pick up Shatter from Mentality for $8.50…or $6.80 using the code EVA until the end of the month! I really cannot recommend Mentality polishes enough.

I have one last new Mentality swatch/art for you guys tomorrow, but I can give you a run-down of the polishes by them that I recommend highly (aka my favorite colors) if you guys are interested. Let me know! And happy polishing!

Art Deco, Pink – 31DC2014

I kept looking for artistic inspiration, and ended up just going with the theme of art deco. Why? Mostly because I love striping tape! The inspiration for this design came from Nuthin But A Nail Thing because lets be honest…if it involves really cool gradients, she probably came up with it.

This was actually surprisingly simple. White base, striping tape, pink gradient, black rectangles and squares. Despite that, I think I got more compliments on this than on anything I have in a while!

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed!

Sunset Geometrically – 31DC2014

This manicure was all together too much fun, and was inspired by my little sister! If you remember, two weeks ago I made a special Sunday post for her, to honor nails I did for her return to college. I loved the gradient that I used as the background so much that I copied it on myself! I did NOT go ahead and make college references on my own nails though, I just added some stylized black awesomeness, inspired by @kbkopija.

Despite having done a gradient for quite a few of the 31 day challenge nails so far (there is another one coming on the 13th too) this was the only official “gradient” day. Oops! Anyway, whee colors!

~ Yellow: Love&Beauty – Yellow
~ Orange: Zoya – Thandie
~ Pink: Essie – The Girls Are Out
~ Purple: Sinful Colors – Dream On
~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black

The design was made with quite a few pieces of striping tape (my other love…stay tuned for days 12 and 16) and some little black rhinestones. What I do not understand is why my stash of black and silver rhinestones is so much depleted compared to my other colors. Ugh! Black, really? Apparently I have emo 3D nail love. Go figure!

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed these freakishly bright gradients! What I have lined up for tomorrow might be one of my favorites in a long while (hint…its’d dotty day!).

Fire Rising – 31DC2014

Today, Day 3, is “yellow.” But, as we know, I hate yellow. So I compromised and used a good deal of yellow but actually used red and orange and white too :-D. My inspiration for this design came from @u_nona, and I would have stayed closer to her example if I had some golden microbeads.

As it is, I made a yellow-orange-red gradient, added white half moons and some golden glitters. I’ve been on a gradient kick recently (just wait and see!) and this one started it all. It looks like fire!

The gradient itself went on remarkably smoothly. I did start with a yellow base (not white) just to make my life easier, but I don’t think it mattered in the end.

– Yellow: Love&Beauty – Yellow
– Orange: Zoya – Thandie
– Red: Pure Ice – Siren
– White: Wet n’ Wild – French White Creme

The glequins came in a set from the Born Pretty Store. Hope you enjoyed! Tomorrow’s nails are a bit…odd. Just a warning!

Tie Dye

Tie dye is fashion, right? I mean, you wear it…so it counts towards fashion day. At least I’m going to pretend that it does. I had been meaning to try tie dye style nails for a while, and I’m glad the OMD2 challenge pushed me there!

I started with a white base, and just swirled on each color in little dabs of my nail art brush. Realistically, I should have gone about this differently (I didn’t have a clear mental image of how thick each color should be or when the colors would wrap back around) but it came out ok despite that! Most of the colors that I used were neons, with a few normal colors thrown in just to even out the palette!

The stamps are from my first and only MoYou London plate, a kind gift from the lovely Jacqui at Craftynail! THANK YOU JACQUI! It is a hippie/60’s themed plate (Back To The 60’s – 01).

Anyway, hope you enjoyed my sense of…fashion! The 31 day challenge ends tomorrow. I’m kinda sad to stop seeing all this awesome art daily, but it will be nice to not post on the weekend for a while!

Gradients Galore

My birthday is tomorrow! This is not what I am wearing right now, but since rainbows make me happy and I refuse to post on weekends, this is going to be my honorary birthday manicure. GRADIENTS! COLORS! GLITTERY THINGS!

Have I yelled enough? 😀 This design in the brainchild of Nuthin’ But A Nail Thing  (but for Crumpet). I bow to her awesomeness. My colors are brighter/more neon than hers, but its the same idea. She is the goddess of gradients.

In other news, since my white Zoya is beginning to dry up and thicken (in all fairness, it is 3/4 empty), I went ahead and got a new (cheap!) white polish, French White Creme by Wet n’ Wild. I have to say, I am disappointed. This polish is thin and streaky and took 3 coats to even remotely even out. That being said, it was free (buy one get one free, and what I wanted was a light pink…see yesterdays post for that one!) so I can’t complain too hard. I’ll probably continue using the Zoya for art and this as a base if necessary.
