Soft Blue Blossoms

The joys of wearing blue scrubs during my surgical rotation was getting to paint my nails blue in a professional situation and having no one bat an eye at it!

This was just a really simple mani on my tiny nubbins, but I really like how the stamps came out. Somewhat work appropriate (if you can wear blue to your job) and super easy! Unfortunately, with my current rotation I am not permitted to wear nail polish AT ALL in one set of operating rooms…which is terrible since right now my nails are an awful blue-yellow mess (not green…blue at the bottom where I forgot base coat on two nails, and yellow near the edge)! I’ve been trying to avoid getting assigned to those ORs, which is easier than I first assumed as most of the surgeries are occurring in other spaces. Regardless, it means I have had plain nude nails for a full week. No design at all. Its awful! I look back FONDLY on wearing subtle nail art in grey-blue or pink.

Anyway! My only wrong step with this mani was using Rock the Boat by Essie as my base…its a pretty color (that matched my scrubs perfectly) but it takes 3-4 coats of polish AND is a slow dried. So this mani wasn’t a fast as I was aiming for! It did last a few days longer since it was so thick (but once it cracked, there was no fixing it).

Hope you enjoyed! I have enough of a back log of manis that I don’t think my 6 weeks on my current rotation will cause me to run out of posting fodder…but we shall see! I also think it might only end up being 2/6 weeks, maybe 4/6 at most. There is no way they care this much on my outpatient weeks.

Angled Echos

Every year, around Valentine’s Day, I reach for The Unloved by Emily de Molly. I don’t quite know why, but its become ingrained! I also DO NOT understand the name of this polish, given how striking it is. But I digress.

This year, I felt like starting of the pink/red/HEARTS manicures that tend to spew out around Valentines Day with something sharp and geometric. So, ta-da! I double stamped over The Unloved with the same stamp twice…first in black and then in gold. The idea was to make it looks like an echo or shadow of the original design. I like it!

I also wanted to use another new stamping plate I was sent from the Born Pretty Store. This plate is the best. I love love LOVE geometric designs, but freehanding them never works out well (too many straight lines) and using striping tape takes literally hours. The best solution seems to be plates, and this one is chalk-full of awesome geometric designs! I ended up using different ones on each nail (well, same pattern on my ring finger and thumb because I made this decision after I already did those two). I love them all.

~ Red glitter: Emily de Molly – The Unloved

~ Gold: Essie – Good as Gold

In warning: the next few posts are going be either heart-themed or red/pink themed. They are still pretty (in terms of the art) but it might be overwhelming (especially since I usually post rather varied colors in a given week). Anyway.

If you want to pick up this awesome geometric stamping plate (and I do recommend it, the designs are really awesome and well-etched), head over to the Born Pretty Store where you can get it for $2.59. Don’t forget my 10% off code, LY5X31! Enjoy!

Geometric Spaces

Finally, colors! Again, a simple polish + stamp design, but I do think these pair nicely.

There really isn’t much to say about this, its just brightly colored and glittery. I did think about making it more complicated, but I actually liked how this looked and decided to stop before I ruined it.

I have a whole lot of polishes that I don’t use nearly as often as I should, and Teal Dimension is one of them. The depth is just lovely!

Hope you enjoyed! Happy Friday!

Whitened Ripples

This mani is cool, but you can hardly tell! I ended up using two different metallic polishes smushed together to make a colored ripple design. Sadly, in most of the photos I took you could hardly tell! I tried to pick out ones where it was clearer.

I also didn’t mean to cover so much of the base polish, its so pretty! I’m going to need to remember to use it again soon, this hardly counts since it can’t be seen. I like to try and rotate which polishes I use as base colors so they all get some attention :-p

~ Dark red: A England – Briarwood
~ White: Mentality – White Opaque
~ Rose gold: Essie – Penny Talk

That’s all for today! Happy Friday.

Entwined Hearts

So, following the theme of purple-and-white manis that were potential wedding manicures, we have the third runner-up! The base color is almost exactly the same shade as the bridesmaid’s dresses (and also the flowers), and I like the love theme!

Unfortunately, I think this looks a little juvenile. Maybe if I used creme polishes and not a holo base or something I’d like it a tad better, but I don’t have a creme burgandy-purple! I do like the tiny dark purple dots I added though :-p

My baby sister aka maid of honor wanted me to replicate these on her nails…despite never having seen them! She grabbed the same purple holo out of my extensive collection and then found this stamping plate and wanted it. Sadly, we ran out of time so she just ended up with purple nails, but it is amazing how similar we think!

Next week is a few more wedding-ish manis. Enjoy!

I was going to do something wheat-like, and I found this plate! It is technically feathers but I thought it looked a little like fall-themed grain, hence thresh 🙂

The base for this gradient is one of the KBShimmer 2016 ‘misfit’ polishes called Orange You Glad I Didn’t Say Banana, a pastel neon orangey-yellow. It is almost exactly the color of a goldfish snack! (I found this out while eating goldfish before I added the gradient. It was glorious). The polish is a bit streaky and chalky (as one might expect of a pastel neon), and dries to a semi-matte. I used three coats for even coverage, and although you could still a little bit see where I passed the brush, overall it looked rather nice! The color is totally unique in my collection and really quite fun. It is shown here with top coat.

I feel like I’ve been doing this color scheme gradient a lot (even if I haven’t shown some of the designs yet) but I guess it makes sense…fall and all! I tried to add yellow to the tips of my nails, but you can barely see it over the pastel orange base. Oh well, still pretty!

As a heads-up, I should have a post ready for Friday…but wether or not I get ANY up next week depends on how much last minute editing I can do. My wedding is this Saturday (OH SHIT) and I am still rushing around doing last minute things for that! So in advance, if there are no posts next week that’s why!

Hope you enjoyed!

Laced In

A corset is totally fashion! So this counts as the “fashion” day in the 31 Day Challenge. I am so glad we are almost done, painting this much has been difficult!

These nails went great…until I put down the striping tape. Which left a reside which would not come off. So when I top-coated, the whole thing got super bubbly! 😦 Hopefully you can’t really see it (I tried to pick pictures that didn’t focus on the bubbles!).

~ Red: Zoya – Isla
~ Black matte: Mentality – Rascal

I have missed using shiny + matte in one mani, so you will be seeing it again soon :-p

Hope you enjoyed!

Dizzying Descent

Another week of chrome-based manis. Today’s is the simplest, but also rather cute! My nails were still short from being in the hospital, but I picked up a new glitter topper polish and I wanted to play with it!

Frosted Cupcake by whim (which I got at ULTA) is a mix of variously sized white matte glitters and holo glitters. It is somewhat sparse, but easy to work with. The bottle is smaller than usual, and usually costs wayyyy too much money (by my standards) but I got this for $2 so I consider it worth it! The clearance section at ULTA is my best friend.

I thought Frosted Cupcake would make a decent star-base for a galaxy mani, and somehow turned that into going through a warp zone? At least, that is what I was going for. The awesomely dizzying nested squares from a stamp on B Loves Plates 03 caught my eye and I just had to try it! I maybe should have added a bit more of a galaxy-like feel rather than just using a blue metallic polish as my base, but it was late at night and I wanted to see how much glitter Frosted Cupcake had. Voila!

~ Blue: Zoya – Estelle
~ White glitter: whim – Frosted Cupcake
~ White: Mentality – White Opaque

Despite how quick and easy this mani was (polish, glitter topper, stamp, done!), I still think it looks pretty cool! I tried to center the stamps on each nail around a central empty spot or glitter piece in particular, I don’t know why. It worked out in the end!

Angles of Chrome

ALL OF THE CHROME. This was me grabbing all 3 of my ILNP multichrome polishes and just having fun on a stamping decal. Honestly, you see less of the shift with all 3 of them present because it is hard to remember which was what color!

I more-or-less just made a stamp on my mat and colored it in. I started by painting my nails black, since multi chromes show up better over black. None of the three polishes I used requires a black base, but since it is always a bit hard to get the details and borders exact with a stamping decal, I figured it wouldn’t hurt!

Ugh. *swoon* I couldn’t stop starting at my nails with these on! The decals were a bit wrinkled by the time I finished manipulating them, which shows a lot in chrome-finish polishes (which is why I prefer working with glitters or cremes for stamping decals) but the end result was worth it!

Hope you enjoyed, and happy Friday! I have survived another week on surgery. 😦

Teal Spirals

I jazzed up an earlier manicure! My silver spiral staircase mani from a few weeks ago was a rushed job, but I had something in mind when I did it! So, this is the ‘full’ version of that mani (aka I went back the next night and added more things).

Luckily, the original design was 100% dry when I went to add color and gemstones, which does tend to happen when you sleep on it! I colored in the whole nail with one coat of a thin jelly teal, and then put a second (maybe even third, I actually don’t remember) over alternating spirals for contrast. Jelly polishes = awesome fun! I need more.

I went ahead and added an AB-coated crystal stone for even more glittery goodness. Luckily, my nails were long enough to actually get a bit of the spiral-like appearance from this stamp!

Hope you enjoyed! Tomorrows post is a bit…terrible. You’ll see!

Ribbons and Lace

I randomly had my red roll of striping tape lying next to my lace design stamping plate from Born Pretty…and saw that one of the stamps looked like it would be PERFECT to have a line of striping tape down the middle…and so I just left the tape and the plate out on my polish desk. For a month. And now that I have a clear stamper I can finally make this awesome art!

I am not ashamed to admit I spent 20 minutes picking out a base polish. Gold? Holo? Pink? Red? WHAT ON EARTH! Before I remembered this polish I was sent to review years ago that I seldom use! Its a nude with pink shimmer and black and red glitters…and since I wanted red striping tape and black stamping it seemed perfect.

I added a thin coat of a semi-opaque nude once the glittery base was down, just to burry the glitters a tiny bit more…I wanted the red and black of the stamp and tape to stand out, and not be eaten by the glitters. I love how it turned out!

I actually put the striping tape down BEFORE I stamped, so I could line up the stamp in the center of my nail perfectly. IT WAS AWESOME. I almost want to do this design again with different colors. Ugh.

Hope you enjoyed! This was so much fun to make and I am super pleased with how it came out 😀

Mesmerizing Maze

I might have messed this up a teeny tiny bit. But it still looks awesome!

This was yet another “Eva plays with awesome stamps that can finally be centered, yay!” only I accidentally reversed the one on my pointer finger. It’s still centered…just upside-down. Oops!

In my defense, my lovely boyfriend and a friend of ours were downstairs making me cookies (yay!) but kept yelling about spilling melted butter all over the microwave, dropping milk, creating giant monster blobs of cookie dough…I was getting a bit nervous about the state and survival of our (admittedly tiny and sad) kitchen. So I messed up a stamp.

~ Multichrome: ILNP – Masquerade

So anyway, please forgive the upside-down stamp. The colors of the ILNP multichromes continue to make me drool. And the cookies were decent! Although now I should maybe start cleaning the kitchen. 😀

Silver Spiral Staircase

Super simple yet mesmerizing! I guess that what happens when you use a stamp from a plate called “mind blow”.

Not much to say today! I wanted something fast so I grabbed a one-coater teal holo and a silver-white stamping polish. This is what came out!

Clear stampers are the best. This mani would never have come out so well without them!

Hope you enjoyed! Big shock…more stamps tomorrow. :-p

Starbucks: Neons and Teal

This mani is, oddly enough, inspired by a Starbucks Reserve card! My friends in lab were out at lunch and saw that the local Starbucks had a collection of really pretty cards out to advertise their coffee from around the world, and grabbed three of them for me! This is the first mani inspired by a card, in this case “West Java”.

This is actually my least favorite of the cards, which is why I wanted to start with it. I put a lot of work into the background for this mani, and you can’t even see it! I started with a dark teal – light teal – dark teal gradient (so the tips and base of my nail were dark while the middle was light) to mimic the card, and then went and added three stamps (neon yellow, neon orange, then rose gold metallic) to try and mimic the pattern on the card. Although I think it worked, you can barely see the teal!

I would NEVER have thought to combine these colors on my own. Teal and orange and yellow?? My nail looks really busy, but it also looks cool!

Well, what do you think? I really like the cards, and I wish I had more of them! Some are STUNNING. I don’t even drink coffee (it tastes awful, I prefer tea or hot chocolate) but I wish my local Starbucks had more of these, they make for fun nail art ideas!

Moving Mask

No colors today! And honestly, a little bit of a sad mani. This didn’t come out quite how I wanted.

This nail art was loosely inspired by @_lovely_nails_. I feel like I got the drifting mask in theory, but in practice it just looks sad!

I also need to get a non-shimmery dark grey. I like Yuna, but sometimes I don’t want glitter!

Tomorrows mani is far more impressive, I promise!

Purple Bursting

More stamps! More CENTERED stamps! With awesome starbursts 😀 Seriously, clear stampers are magic. I had been wanting to use this stamp for months, but had to acknowledge that no matter what I did with it, it was going to look awkward and off-center. Ergo, magic!

The stamping was done over the shades of purple water marble you guys saw a few weeks ago. I liked the marble so much I took pictures of it independently, but it was never meant to stand alone!

I don’t know why I decided doing starbursts over random marbling was the best idea, but it came out alright! I still need to try a radial gradient with circle stamping again. This time maybe it’ll actually work!

Hope you enjoyed! Tomorrow: fewer colors. Still stamps.

Peek-a-blue Lace

Blue and matte and lace! I need to get over my lace nails obsession, its unhealthy :-p

I tried again to do this “peek-a-boo” lace idea, this time with blue instead of red and a few different stamps.

Hilariously, although I got things centered much better now (thank you clear stamper!) I don’t like the colors as much! Ah well. Turns out if you want quasi-sexy nails (sexy? Nails? Right.) you rather DO need to use red!

Hope you enjoyed! I know this won’t be much of a surprise at this point, but tomorrow, Thursday, and Friday are also stamping manicures! Sorrrrry :-p

Pink Bars

I think I might have gone a tad bit overboard with stamps this time around! That being said, look how well they line up! Maybe at some point I’ll get over just how awesome clear stampers are…but not today :-p

This mani was inspired by Mdolla’s nails although being honest I should have left the black nails just black! The pseudo-argyle pattern does look cool, but I think it would look better plain.

I wanted to use the small-and-large lace stamp from the corner of Born Pretty plate L020, but mine won’t pick up! I think I had this problem before with this plate (well, this corner of this plate) and it makes me sad. I just got yet another new stamper (whee collecting things) so I should try with that one at some point too.

Hope you enjoyed! Tomorrow yet more stamps 😀

Geometric Teal Scales

Oh my goodness, I completely forgot to post today until now! I joined some college friends for breakfast this morning, and didn’t have time to make a blog post before I left my apartment…and every time since then that I’ve remembered I’ve been away from my computer! So, sorry for the late post! Tomorrow’s should be up on time.

I don’t know why, but it is much easier to get perfect polish transfer with my non-black Mentality stamping polish. The black one seems made of up of tiny beads of black…while the others (white, pink, orange, yellow, teal) are actually flowing polish. So I wanted to try some tiny thin lines with the teal!

I figured it went best over black (I agonized for at least 10 minutes) so this mani is very simple! I grabbed the two stamps that I thought would go best together given that I was using the fine line chevrons from Bundle Monster plate 604. And here we are!

~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black
~ Teal: Mentality – Teal Opaque
~ Stamps: BM – 604, XL209

I do need to keep trying with the clear stamper, I’m getting much better at picking up the whole image in one go, but it still takes me a few tries at the beginning to get it going! Hope you enjoyed, however simple this was! 🙂

Rose Window

This was intended as a stained-glass mani (which is to say I had a stamp that always made me think of a rose window from cathedrals) but it mostly just looks like a glittery flower! Ah, well.

I started by hand-painting on concentric rings of glitter polish, pink-red-orange. You almost can’t see the red, it is under the edge of the petals. I then added the stamp with my clear stamper (whee they are all centered!).

Although this is ridiculously glittery, it looks almost nothing like how I hoped! I wanted to get the rings of pink, red, and orange clear…but the red is hidden and the pink and orange look very similar.

~ Pink glitter: Zoya – Alegra
~ Red glitter: China Glaze – Ruby Pumps
~ Orange glitter: OPI – DS Indulgence
~ Black: Mentality – Black Opaque
~ Stamp: BM – 618

I have a hunch I’m going to keep trying to get colorful stained glass until I am happy…. Until next time!
