Nude and White Splatter

This one is…interesting? I don’t honestly know where I was going with it, but I wanted rose-gold-on-nude and some splotches of white. I guess I achieved that? Regardless, it was somewhere between subtle and fun, which works! The stamps are from two different plates but they worked pretty well together.

~ Nude shimmer: Picture Polish – Cherish
~ Rose gold: Essie – Penny Talk
~ White: Sinful Colors – Snow me White
~ Stamps: EdM – 03, Lina – Make Your Mark 02

Short and sweet! Hope you enjoyed 🙂

Abstraction in Gold

This mani only worked because my nails are currently short enough that I could turn the stamp sideways and use different parts on each nail! I Initially wanted to do gold on some pastel background, but decided that dark red would look better. It totally does. I also almost got in trouble at the hospital for wearing nail art too visibly! Oops!

Regardless, this nail art was incredibly easy and surprisingly striking. It took a total of 30 minutes (and most of that was waiting for the red base to dry). Success!

~ Red: Zoya – India
~ Gold: Essie – Good as Gold
~ Stamp: BM – XL204

That’s it for today! Simple stamps. Wednesday’s post is a lot more involved…stamping and gradients oh my!

Blue Diving Through

I just really wanted to use this stamp! I had blue with orange on my other hand, so that is how I ended up with orange dots. Not a color combo I would usually reach for, but I think it works!

I also wanted to post something at least Hanukkah-adjacent. I am actually wearing menorahs on my nails right now, but I doubt (unless I somehow magic up some time) that I will get a chance to edit them and post them in the next week! Unfortunately I am currently on a 12 day stretch without a day off from the hospital, so I will likely not get around to it 😦

~ Dark blue metallic: Zoya – Ibiza
~ Dark blue creme: Zoya – Sia
~ Blue creme: Zoya – Ling
~ Light blue creme: Zoya – Rocky
~ Pastel blue creme: Zoya – Blu
~ Orange: Zoya – Thandie
~ Stamp: BM – XL204

That was a lot of blues! And all of them Zoya. I likely own more blue Zoyas than any other single color, but dark purples do come close. Anyway, hope you enjoyed and have fun lighting candles and eating chocolate and latkes!

Sapphire Divided

I bought this particular polish on a whim, mostly because I wanted another polish in this collection and felt like placing and order for a single polish was silly. Jokes on me though…I actually like this one even better than the one I initially wanted! That always seems to happen :-p

This is Sapphire by KBShimmer, from the birthstone collection (I also got Ruby…which I posted about back in December). I cannot resist polishes that are jewel toned, saturated with metallic silver shards, and have holo in them. I now own 5!!! Sapphire is probably the darkest and most pigmented one in my collection though, since the other three non-KBShimmer ones are gold/silver/rose gold in tone.

This polish took two thin coats to cover (I probably could have gotten away with one if I applied it thicker). It dries down remarkably smoothly given all the glitter in it as well! The best part: removal wasn’t even that difficult! Maybe it’s because the glitter is in shards rather than hex shapes, and so catches my removing pad better? I don’t know why, but I am grateful! Regardless, Sapphire is a beautiful deep blue-jean/sapphire blue. I should have taken a photo with my  sapphire engagement ring! Whoops. Either way, it is stunning.

I am a bit sad that I added the rhinestones before top coat though, they always go from hexagonal and shiny to looking matte with regular top coat. I think I’ve finally figured out a work-around for this problem, but since I actually painted these back in October I wasn’t thinking too deeply about it a week before the wedding. Whoops!

~ Blue glitter: KBShimmer – Sapphire
~ Silver: A England – Excalibur
~ Stamp: EdM – 03

I didn’t want to cover too much of the polish with a design…so I turned to my best pretty-but-minimal stamping plate (EdM 03) and just picked one. Ta-da! Hope you enjoyed!

Triangulate in Green

If yesterday was my pink/red collection, today is devoted to teal and green! Same concept, but with a white stamp.

I actually don’t know if I like the pink/red or teal/green better. I usually go more for teals, but the pink was so BRIGHT. This is also super colorful, but doesn’t quite have the neon pop!

Hilariously enough, this was also painted to match a dress that I wore to a different wedding! Lots of weddings you guys. So many weddings. Which means lots of fun dresses to coordinate with, but still! I’m also a terrible person who has taken to facebook to look at all the pictures of people I peripherally know (and thus whose weddings I am not invited to but get to see photos from) and judging all their wedding dresses. Seeing as how there appear to be at least 4 weddings per weekend for the last 2 months, I’ve been judging a lot of dresses!

~ White: Sinful Colors – Snow me White
~ Light green: Essie – The More The Merrier
~ Light teal: Wet n’ Wild – I Need a Refresh-Mint
~ Dark teal: Salon Perfect – Escape to Neverland
~ Blue: OPI – Into the Night
~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black
~ Stamp: Bundle Monster – 205

Hope you enjoyed! Total change of pace tomorrow (unless you thought I meant more stamping…but no, there is always stamping).

Banded Rose Gold

Sometimes simple and clean manis are the best. Usually, I am one for lines and dots and swirls and colors…but I saw an awesome New Years mani by Paulina’s Passions and I just had to recreate it!

The only difficult thing about this was that it involved many layers of tape and thus took a long time waiting in between tape application. I do wish I had a rose gold glitter (I used a holo, but it isn’t quite the same), but it came out alright regardless I think!

I need to mix rose gold and black more. I tend to shy away from black as a main color because its rather lacking in, well, color…but it works beautifully for contrast!

~ Nude: Zoya – Chantal
~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black
~ Rose gold metallic: Essie – Penny Talk
~ Rose holo: Jade – Irresistivel

Hope you enjoyed! Tomorrow we get some nerdy awesomeness 😀

Budding Blue

I have been wanting to try this design for months, since I saw it on pinterest. My version is not quite as nice as the original, by @justagirlandhernails. That being said, I still like it!

The new polish here is a medium-deep blue creme (yes its a color…its not a medium blue nor it is a dark blue. Shhhhh) called Sia by Zoya. Sia covered almost perfectly in one coat, I added a second just in case. She does however dry a whole shade darker than the bottle color! I was slightly misled…i thought I would be getting a medium blue and Sia is certainly a darker blue. That being said, the color is stunning! I didn’t have any staining when I took Sia off either.

~ Blue: Zoya – Sia
~ Light blue: Zoya – Yummy
~ White: Salon Perfect – Sugar Cube
~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black
~ Green: Zoya – Shawn
~ Light green: Glitter Gal – No Worries
~ Stamps: EdM – 03

The crazy part here was how many decals I made. The blue-and-white nails were done by transferring the stamp to the stamper in black, and then covering it with white. When dry, I cut the decal into pieces to put on my nails. The flowers were free-handed onto a stamper and then transferred. Lots of decals!

In other news, does anyone else go through black and white at a truly horrifying pace? I need a new white ALREADY and I think I just started using this one in June! Yikes! This is why I cannot believe some nail bloggers shell out $30 for the “perfect” white…if I go through a bottle ever 4 months, I would rather have a crappy $2 polish than something that costs me an arm and a leg 4 times a year!

Happy MLK Day! Today’s mani was an attempt at dotted lace (like, lace with dots and solid top and bottom), and I’m not sure where I ended up with this…but I like it! I was trying to highlight the beauty of Sailor by Mentality, and I couldn’t think of a better way to do it than with a matte/glossy contrast mani 🙂

This mani is made up of tape, dots, and a lot of fun! I’m keeping this post short mostly because I am tired. Blue, silver, and nude. Voila!

~ Dark blue matte: Mentality – Sailor
~ Nude creme: Zoya – Chantal
~ Silver: Sally Hansen – Sterling Silver
~ Silver glitter: Nails Inc – Maida

Hope you enjoyed! Sailor is an absolutely stunning polish, and you can pick it up for $6.76 from the website and make beautiful art with it 😀

X Marks the Spot

The best gift I got this holiday season was actually from Mentality polish…they let us (the bloggers) pick out 9 polishes from any of their past collections and sent them to us! Which means I have my paws on some truly spectacular polish 😀 It’s actually so bad that I am putting off wearing a few of them until I can come up with some nail art that does them justice! I just couldn’t resist starting with this combo though 🙂

Here we have the beautiful golden holographic polish Euphoria with an accent of Sailor. Euphoria is mind-bogglingly pretty. Opaque in two very easily controlled coats, she is …well, complicated. The easiest thing to say would be that she is a gold scattered holo polish with gold flakies of some variety. But she also has bits of red glitter that give a slight pink tinge and I think there are some silver flakies in there too? I have NO IDEA. In the sunlight she simply glows rainbows (see the blurry photo farther down) and in the shade…woah. My camera was flipping out. I was having trouble making it focus!

Sailor (which will get its own mani and post sometime soon) is a stunning deep blue matte polish that would be metallic if it weren’t matte. I love it. Hauntingly dark. Shown here is two coats (but you have to work fast as with all matte polishes…it can streak as it dries if you overwork it).

I basically just decided to cover up as little of Euphoria as I could get away with, while still contrasting the glossy finish with the matte finish of Sailor. So we have some tiny pieces of scotch tape and then some tinier pieces of striping tape. Also dots, because dots rock.

If you want to pick up either Euphoria ($9.25) or Sailor ($6.75) (and seriously, these polishes are so damn pretty I don’t even know what to do with myself…I think Euphoria might also be work appropriate because if you aren’t in the sun it just looks like a stunning rose gold polish), head on over to the Mentality website. You won’t be disappointed!

Minimally Modern

Another feathery manicure! I do in fact have a Thanksgiving themed mani on my nails right now…but I need some sunlight before I show it off! So maybe it won’t be up till December (oops). In the meantime, enjoy some monochrome modern feathers and studs!

This design was inspired by @kimiko7878, as so many of the best simple/floral/feathery designs are! Seriously, she is wonderful. Anyway. The other aspect of this was the studs sent to me for review from the Born Pretty Store. Various size silver studs? Count me in!

~ White: Sinful Colors – Snow me White
~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black
~ Silver: A England – Excalibur

The studs come in a set of 6 sizes for each of gold and silver (in one case). They are easy to use, awesomely shiny, and I like that one case has both colors! You can buy yourself a set at the Born Pretty Store for $4.14. Don’t forget to use my 10% off code, LY5X31!

Stay tuned for more vaguely Thanksgiving-themed nail art, assuming the sun comes out!

Tendrils and Pink

My sister recently came to visit and dropped off a few small OPI trial size polishes for me to play with for a week. The first one I reached for was a beautiful deep magenta metallic polish. I can’t get enough of these metallics-with-depth!

This pink is two coats of Henna-Thing is Possible by OPI. Just beautiful. Out of the four colors I played with from this OPI set, this was my favorite! I decided to add some dots and swirls, based off a design by kimiko7878.

– Pink: OPI – Henna-Thing Is Possible
– Light pink: Petites Color Fever – Raspberry Ice
– Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black

The pink-on-pink dots are subtle (especially in sunlight) but I thought the end result was really cool! I want to try this again with a different color palette at some point.
