It has been a while since I last did mermaid nail art! Don’t ask me why though, I’ve always loved looking at pretty scales!
This design was inspired by @xnailsbymiri, although I liked my scales enough not to add the glitters or pearls (not that I own tiny pearls like that) I do own gold seashell charms but they are SO SMALL that it would have looked silly! Starfish don’t make great necklaces, but you work with what you have!
The nails with scales were actually more complicated; I made stamping decals using a gold stamp and colored them in with a dark teal creme and a teal holo. I applied the stamping decals over a light teal creme base using top coat (since that works better and is faster than my old method of coloring in the designs on my mat). Otherwise, I just added some caviar beads and a charm!

~ Teal holo: Powder Perfect – There be Mermaids!
~ Gold: Essie – Good as Gold
~ Stamps: BC – 04, BP – L003
Honestly, I used the lighter teal holo just because of its name. It is also a great color, but if I am painting mermaid scales, I need a mermaid polish! I am also glad I got these posted sometime over the summer. We shall see when my other summer nails make it up! Oops 😀
This did not come out how I planned…mostly because I can’t make curved dotted lines on my non-dominant hand! This was initially supposed to be a slightly modified version of @twi_star@twi_star. I like that I added extra draped beads (and the silver) but I wish I had been able to make the delineating dots consistent! Also water decals >> stamps. I just don’t have the right water decals. Whoops!
In other news, I really hate the names of Nails Inc polishes. I know they are named after places in England…but they are impossible to remember. Give me SOMETHING more creative!
~ Purple: L’oreal – Royalty Reinvented
~ Black: Wet n’ Wild – Black Creme
~ Silver: Nails Inc – South Kensington

That’s all for today. My current rotation is kicking my butt and I didn’t get a chance to edit my nail art this past weekend cause of Thanksgiving!
“Can you paint with all the colors of the wiiiiiiind”. Today is movie day, and of course I had to do something Disney (well, or Pixar) and since my boyfriend is out missing (aka at work even though I painted this over the weekend) I thought I’d do a homage to his least-favorite disney movie, Pocahontas! In his words: it’s as if someone made a movie about the holocaust where the jews and germans made friends and no one died. So, I get it, but I still think the movie is beautiful.
Unfortunately, I don’t own a color even close to Pocahontas’ skin tone, so I went darker rather than lighter. Despite that, I think the end product looks ok!
From pinky to thumb, we have the end of her dress, her necklace, her arm tattoo, the top of her dress, and some semblance of hair in the wind. Or maybe the branches of Grandmother Willow, I don’t actually know which! Free-form wavy things.
~ Brown: Zoya – Dea

Hope you enjoyed! I was torn between Pocahontas and Lilo and Stitch, so maybe next time there will be some Stitch nail art!
