Vibrant Mess

I saw this mani by @chrisslypaws and I just KNEW I had to duplicate it! It was one of the first things I made with the Make Your Mark 02 plate. Its neon and gradient-y and awesome!

IMG_8625

I think I really just like designs that are messy but with purpose. After all the experimenting with ways to mix 5 different colors together (for my swatch tests and subsequent nail art) I ended up just thinking that messy pseudo-modern art is really fun for nails 🙂

IMG_2289

This mani was really quite easy, given that its a two-color gradient over white with a black stamp. I also forgot how gratifying a two-color gradient can be, since I usually reach for a minimum of 3 colors (and usually more like 5 because I like color). It was fun!

That said, I can’t tell if my plate isn’t etched as deeply as it should be? I need to play around with it some more because the black just isn’t as black as I’d like. However, I love the mani anyway! Hope you enjoyed 😀

Red-y Dot Pond

I saw this teeny tiny red polish, realized it was a true jelly (aka would not reach opacity by itself for at least 4 coats) and got very excited about doing a pond mani. its been years. I usually mess them up cause i get impatient, but this time i was intermittently catching up on an older tv show so i actually waited between coats! possibly my best pond yet 🙂

IMG_7117

What you see here is two coats of My Wish List is You by OPI, and as you can tell my nail line is still quite visible and the few flecks of staining on my nails are easy to see (my thumb, not pictured, was by far the worst). The photos actually underemphasize the jelly nature, this polish would not have been wearable in two coats…but it was wonderfully squishy!

IMG_7006

The polish ended up being as close to a neon you can get with a red? I thought it was going to be a bit darker (my OPI reds tend to dry dark) and this dried BRIGHT and almost orange. It also stayed glossy, no matte or semi-matte. This also means that my camera FREAKED out with this color, and while the pond aspect was very clear on my nails, in the photos all the red is super blown out! I tried to color adjust (and lower the saturation) and it kinda worked? So sorry. Super bright red!

IMG_1848-1

In the end, I used 6 total coats of red, and 3 layers of pond-ness. The colors stayed super vibrant! I’m going to count this as a success. It is just hard to tell in the photos.

Super simple, kinda fun! And yet another use of my pointy nails. Oy! Hope you enjoyed.

Tropical Fronds

I am in Hawaii right now! Or, at least I should be. I am very excited. I was waiting to post these nails (which I painted back in December in honor of my cruise to the Caribbean) until the start of my next tropical vacation because I am a dork.

IMG_4740

The design here was inspired by clairestelle8 and I honestly think I did a pretty decent job replicating her design! Unfortunately, the base gradient which looked really vibrant on my nails did not translate well in the photos. It isn’t pastel!

IMG_8331

For the design itself, I had to hand-stamp each leaf, since I didn’t have a plate with thick enough frond leaves to work. Surprisingly, it didn’t take too long! Also, I didn’t like the idea of using a white border for flowers, so I used the darker of the blues instead, and I wish there was a tiny bit more delineation between the flower and the surroundings.

That’s all for today! Sorry preemptively for not responding to any comments for the next two weeks, meanwhile I hope you guys enjoy the posts I have lined up!

Neon Peaking Through

The problem with the prompt for Day 12, stripes, is that although I use a lot of striping tape, I seldom make stripes! I figured that criss-crosses were ok too :-p

IMG_6628

This nail art was inspired by melyne nail art. Melyne used nail vinyl’s rather than striping tape, which both made her application easier and provided her with thicker stripes! Some day I need to invest in nail vinyls :-p although I do also like the way mine came out.

I think this is arguably the fourth day in the row with neon polishes. I don’t generally use neons that much, but I guess I was hit with the summer neon bug! To me this is funny because last summer and the year before every brand released a lot of neon polishes, which I did not see happen this year. So of course I’ve jumped on the bandwagon years late :-p

No more neon tomorrow! I guess I could have tried for neon animal print, but I doubt I would have liked the result :-p

Dotted Neon Lace

So, maybe this isn’t exactly what was meant by the prompt “polka dots” for day 11 of the 31 Day Challenge, but I find regular old polka dots boring so this is what you guys get instead!

IMG_0548

Back in 2014 I did probably one of my favorite bits of nail art for polka dot day, inspired by Melyne. This year, I decided to do something very similar! Which is to say that this design, too, was inspired by Melyne…the designs are similar but both the inspiration from her and my own nails are slightly different!

IMG_7130

That being said, I think I actually like the 2014 nails better. I spent more time on them and it shows! This year’s nails have a bit of a wonky line thing going on. But still lots of dots!

IMG_7132

That’s it for today! I’ll have similar post sometime after the end of September where I show you what I wore on my other hand…I was far too lazy to freehand the whole thing so it is basically stamps with the same color scheme (spoilers). Hope you enjoyed!

Neon Print

Gradient time! Gradients are one of my favorite things to do with my nails, since it allows me to use a bunch of colors. And then, typically, cover the gradient with a stamp for added design :-p

IMG_9134

When I was putting this together, I thought the colors might actually be too bright (because wow, neon). I was initially planning to cover more of the gradient as a result, but I like the amount showing! I ended up using another Born Pretty Store stamp, but this one works like a charm. I’ve actually even used the super-coverage designs on this plate and they stamped beautifully, which I’ve never had work for me before!

IMG_6671

So, when it comes to gradients this hurts my eyes but is awesome, and when it comes to stamping plates this one makes me very happy, both for the etching and for the variety in patterns. Win-win!

Tomorrows post is ALSO with neons, although only one color rather than three. If you like the stamping plate and want to pick it up for yourself, you can find it at the Born Pretty Store for $2.99. Enjoy!

Lit Up Neon

COLOR. Oh my gosh you guys I AM SO EXCITED. I wore these when I went to San Francisco for my first vacation after hospital time! Also for my birthday :-p

IMG_6581

I was trying to recreate a gradient from ilaeti but I think I need more blue! I love how the colors came out though, so I imagine I will be trying again…and this time showing a gradient-only photo, it was so pretty! Don’t get me wrong, I like the stamping, but that gradient.

IMG_6579

I wish my nails were longer, the hint of neon green you can see at the tip of my thumb made me happy.

That’s all! More colors and fun designs next week. I am so happy I had a least a month to wear whatever I wanted on my nails! Residency is going to be painful if I need to keep my nails ‘tame’. Although I have a sneaking suspicion that I won’t have time for nail art, just color and a stamp if I’m lucky. I don’t know whats going to happen to the blog next year. Yikes…
