Ocean Surf

Summer time! Well, sort of. In St Louis it went from 99 degrees and sunny to 75 and raining. I prefer the colder and rainier, but it makes this less fitting! Anyway, I really like the mani 🙂

IMG_2409

The design was inspired by the ever-awesome Copycat Claws (and yes I saw this posted a year ago and have been waiting to do my own version since then)! Unfortunately the shell and starfish charms that I own are SIGNIFICANTLY smaller than I expected, and than were required for this mani. So I improvised.

IMG_8835

I started with a teal creme polish, and topped it with a darker teal jelly. Once that was dry, I stamped using white polish. I then topped the white stamp with two coats of the same teal jelly polish. On the nails with sand and water, I blobbed the teal jelly in a haphazard pattern somewhat overlapping the textured glitter to make it look like sand underwater. I then then added white surf by hand using part of an (unused) kitchen sponge. Since my textured polish is pretty simple, over the textured glitter I dabbed on some gold holo glitters for a more interesting base.

IMG_2411

Unfortunately, the ocean charms I have are rather small! I ended up sponging on some white polish so they would stand out against the gold base, since the charms and the textured polish were almost exactly the same color! Yikes. Even sadder, the pearl charms I have are much larger than, say, the starfish and clamshell charms, so I grabbed some cute pink rhinestones instead and am going to pretend they are sea glass 😀

Anyway, that’s all for today! I hope you enjoyed 🙂 Stay tuned for some more pretty nail art this week!

The Ocean is Kooky Dooks

I knew I wanted to make beautiful tropical sea nails just before I left for my honeymoon to Hawaii. I also sweet talked my husband into watching Moana (for like the 20394830th time) in preparation, and somehow these nails came out looking like Moana ocean! I am pleased.

IMG_6468

I love how these nails looked in person, but between the dark blue and the bright teal, in photos I ended up with lobster fingers! I’ve tried to somewhat color adjust for that, but I don’t know how successful I really way.

IMG_6457

The double stamping (silver and white) looked fun, but there is a part of me that wonders if the mani would have looked better with just a single stamp? I will never know!

That’s all for today! I thought I would throw in a mani that didn’t have a brand new polish in it for the first time in a while :-p Enjoy!

Beachside

I realize that this is both blue and tan, but give JUST HOW MANY BLUE POLISHES I USED (omg) I am counting it as the day 5, Blue, post for the 31 Day Challenge.

IMG_6810

This design was inspired by majikbeenz who actually has a lovely tutorial! Which of course I only found after I was done since I was simply using a pinterest pin. Whoops!

IMG_9549

I basically started with a light blue base and then painted on each of the other blues. And glitters. And flakies. Oh my! I think what really makes this is the textured sand (I knew I could still find uses for those textured polishes!) and the white surf at the border with the sand.

What do you guys think? A fitting “blue” day? I like it at least :-p

Whales

It has been a while since I’ve done a 100% cute mani, so I thought it was time! Thus, I present tiny adorable whales 😀

IMG_2138

This mani was inspired by dry dammit. I even matted it, as I like the result matted! There is one pre-matte photo in the post, just so you guys can see how shiny the blue was before I made it un-shiny.

IMG_3835

Maybe I should at some point try painting my beta fish. Then again, he is a ridiculous concoction of mermaid/peacock colors with a giant spiky tail
so maybe not.

Sea Foam

Double stamps! And still blue, so it somewhat counts for this weeks theme. I really just wanted to play around with some new stamping plates I was sent to review from Lady Queen Beauty 🙂

IMG_1284

I started off with a blue metallic base (you guys are going to see a LOT of metallics in the next few weeks
I’ve been back on a shimmery kick!). Once that was dry, I applied three colors of blue to the stamp and swiped my scraper to make them form a gradient, which was applied to my nails. I ended up adding an orange starfish too, just for fun!

IMG_1069

The second plate (with the starfish, 012) has a whole bunch of sea-themed stamping patterns
I can’t wait to make an underwater jelly aquarium mani! Only
I don’t actually have a blue jelly. So I might have to make one. *crosses fingers*

IMG_1300

Plate 024 also has a really cool pattern that looks like a mix between a space warp and fireworks that I just know I’ll be using for New Years! Anyway, if you want to pick up either of these plates, head over to Lady Queen Beauty. They are both $2.99, but you get 15% off with my discount code BPLC15. Enjoy!

Seaweed

Today’s theme for the OMD2 challenge was “jelly,” so I have decided that it is time for another jelly sandwich pattern! One of the only jellies (or almost jellies) that I have is a green glitter, so I settled on a seaweed pattern.

IMG_0040

This was made by painting white squiggly lines over a green base, and topping each of two layers of squiggles with my green jelly polish. Unfortunately, you can’t quite see the depth.

Colors

  • Green (base): Sinful Colors – Exotic Green
  • Green (jelly glitter): Sephora by OPI – Apple Scented
  • White: KISS Nail Art – White Striper

I hope you enjoyed! I need to remember to bring out my jellies more often!

Sandy Shores

What to do with a clear glitter topper that has so much color you have no idea which base to put it over? How about play with the name! Today we have a manicure 100% inspired by Sand In My Stocking from KBShimmer.

IMG_3708

This polish is insane, and I mean that in the best way possible. There are small orange hexes, blue and gold small circles, tiny brown and white hexes, and tiny square gold glitters (yes, square!). There is also the occasional gold holographic star, but they are rare (which in my option is a good thing).

IMG_6940

The thing about this polish is that it is ridiculously dense. The gradient on my thumb is <1 coat. I tried to wipe off most of the glitter on the brush before applying it at all. I think with 2 (maybe 3?) coats this polish would be completely opaque on its own
you would just never be able to take it off with all the glitter :-p.

IMG_6921

IMG_6934

For all of the gradients, I applied a thin line of polish at the tip (or base) of my nails, and just dragged a bit to make the gradient. I went back over the tips with a very thin smattering of polish to make the gradient a bit more pronounced. This is the easiest glitter gradient I have ever done. I ended up with 3 stars, but they are all buried under the other polish (yay)
two on my pointer and one on my thumb.

IMG_6906

IMG_6938

This manicure was inspired by a quote on the  back of a bench at the beach I went to as a child (yes, I know that is weird)
”Look for me where sand meets sea.” So, we have sand (Zoya – Tomoko) and sea (Maybelline – Shocking Seas). I also had to freehand some textured starfish just because (Julie G – Tangerine Dream and Sugar Rush).

IMG_3700

Ok, that was a lot of text. Sorry. I’m just happy to have a beach themed mani when its 25 degrees out 🙂 Hope you enjoyed!

Tidepool

I love blue. I have not been particularly tempted buy any further blue textured polishes (I already owned one), just because none of them spoke to me. I picked up Sleigh Ride on a whim, and I am really glad I did.

IMG_4870

This polish is possibly my favorite textured polish, bar none. It is a beautiful vibrant true blue, with silver and light blue glitter. It is textured but does not catch on anything, and took only one coat to be opaque. I added two coats, and the color deepened a bit. It dried remarkably fast, and I cannot stop staring at my nails. This is the perfect blue.

IMG_4855

I wanted to add snowflakes for my art, but seeing as how it is still 70 degrees out, I figured ’tis not the season yet. Instead, I opted for water! The blue and glitter reminded me of sunlight passing through the surface of water, so I decided to do a shallow ocean design.

IMG_4863

So, here we have bubbles and a wave on my accent nail and thumb. I added some accents in another Julie G textured polish, and you can see that it looks almost grey/silver next to Sleigh Ride! Crazy.

IMG_2909

Colors

  • Blue textured: Julie G – Sleigh Ride
  • Light blue textured: Julie G – Blueberry Fizz
  • Blue: Zoya – Yummy
  • Light blue: Sally Hansen – Breezy Blue
  • White: Sinful Colors – Snow me White

IMG_2910

This mani is so much fun! And this polish is incredible. If you want Sleigh Ride and the rest of the collection, head to Jesse’s Girl right now for a pre-sale of the whole set! Julie G textured polishes can be found at Rite Aid for $4.
