Stars and snowflakes! I painted this a while ago and was afraid I wouldn’t get around to posting it while it was still cold out. I should not have worried. It is forecast to snow tomorrow and Wednesday, oy vey!

The base here is yet another holiday polish that I won from Nail Polish Canada, this is Coalmates by OPI. What you see here are three thin coats of polish, which is a dark grey-blue jelly that looks almost black, but is filled with copious silver and blue flecks. The first coat looked grey with large amounts of glitter, but it covered in three coats and the blue came through. Honestly, this is not my favorite polish and I am glad it is a mini.

I thought it would work nicely as the base for a night sky, so I grabbed another new stamp that I was sent to review from the Born Pretty Store and went to work!

All the images here are from the same stamping plate, but the plate itself is a bit of a hodgepodge of design elements! However, it does stamp beautiful (even the tiny intricate lines, I am quite impressed).

My favorite part of this stamp is the encircled sun/moon on my middle finger. It is both intricate and absolutely beautiful. I don’t know why the stars on the other part of the image are mixed with snowflakes, but I’ll take it! This is overall a very fun plate!

If you want to pick up plate BP-185 for yourself, head over to the Born Pretty Store where it is on sale for $1.59. Hope you enjoyed!

Fiery Warmth

This mani is quite random…and was very painful to make trying to line up all those straight lines! That said, I love how bright it came out!

The initial idea was to create a blanket or scarf pattern on my nails, like a knit. I also one I wanted to use warm fire colors (oranges and reds and yellows) and the plan was to use a purple…but when I tried that it overwhelmed everything else so I removed it. Somehow, we ended up here!

I didn’t actually know I had this many plaid-like patterns among my stamping plates. I also did not fully figure on how darn difficult lining up those thin silver stripes would be. I almost resorted to using striping tape, but decided I really did want a 100% stamped mani. Ouch.

~ Orange: Essie – Playing Koi
~ Red: OPI – Visions of Love
~ Silver: A England – Excalibur

So what do you think? Does it look even a little scarf/blanket-like? Or just very warm-toned? :-p

Wintry Twirls

The stamp I used here is a bit odd. It is mostly swirls and twirls, but also has stars and for some reason a pine tree? Either way, I seemed like something fun to use in the wintertime…and even more fun to randomly cover with golden shimmery glitter!

Basically, this is another ‘stamp with white over nude and add GLITTER’ which, in addition to swirly designs, seems to be my MO when I need something somewhat subtle but still fun. I also just quietly enjoy the subtle shimmer in the nude base.

I feel the need to give a little shout-out to this particular stamping plate, I don’t use it often because I own so many darn stamps…but it is super deeply etched and always transfers beautifully. I should move it to the front of my image plates, not the back!

That’s it for today! One last final boring mani on Friday, and then we can move on to more colorful things 🙂

Subtle Pink Overlay

Of all the designs I did during my residency interviews, this is probably the most subtle. I figured if I was going to wear a pink that was blatantly glittery, then I needed a design which would not stand out!

I used a pink glittery base that claims to be holographic and almost is, and then stamped over it with a scale pattern using a gradient of light pink to normal pink. I almost wish I had used white and not light pink, this design was almost invisible!

I think this is also the only time I didn’t just cut both my hands back when one nail broke…which is why I have one hand with nice square nails and one hand that is rounded. I dislike rounded nails!!

~ Pink: Clinique – Pinkini
~ Light pink: OPI – Be There In a Prosecco
~ Stamp: BC – 04

This was work-appropriate mani #2, out of maybe 10? I have two interviews left at this point so probably out of 11 total manis. We shall see. I hope these are giving those of you with jobs that require boring nails some ideas! :-p

I actually wore these to Thanksgiving, but that is when the Christmas decorations go up! The story here is that my mother-in-law collects nutcrackers. She probably has around 100 total, it is pretty incredible. I wanted to do some nails that she would enjoy!

As such, these were inspired by the adorably painted and carved toys, not the ballet! Usually I would be doing the ballet, but not this year. I should mention that this was a little bit of striping tape and a LOT of freehand, and I am quite proud of his face!

This is only 5 colors, and a lot of different golden studs. You have no idea how many photos of nutcrackers I looked at when trying to decide what to make what color and which body part to paint.

Also, because I am a dork, there are three sizes of studs on here! Caviar beads on my pinky, normal sized studs on my middle finger, and some small ones on my thumb. I finally have enough different sizes to do stuff like this!

Foiled Foliage

I think I am pun-y! Well, it isn’t a pun, the title is basically just alliteration but it still makes me happy. As does this mani! It is technically still autumn…and currently the ground in Philly is completely covered in leaves. It is pretty, crunchy, and utterly ridiculous. When I walk outside I feel like I am eating leaves!

The base polish here is intended, I think, as a topper…but I wanted to make it opaque! This is three coats of Raging Fire by Born Pretty over one thin coat of a dark red base. Honestly, this polish was almost completely opaque at two coats! The final coat was mostly for my pinky, which I had painted more sparsely than the others. Despite looking uneven, the glitter was actually quite smooth after one coat of top coat. That said, the polish itself is thick and a bit goopy…good for dense flakie placement but it would have been difficult to get a light coat of polish.

The flakies themselves shift from pink/red to orange/copper to gold and emerald green at sharp angles. Since the flakes are at slightly different angles to each other, it is actually easy to get the whole color shift! It was mesmerizing.

I then made stamping decals using a left design from plate Floral BPX-L018 with Essie Good as Gold and colored in between the leaves with OPI Visions of Love. It looks quite fun and glittery! I know I could have instead just painted the leaves of the stamping decal with flakies…but this was so much more fun :-p

And, surprisingly, this was pretty easy to remove! Since they are flakies and not true glitter, they dissolve with acetone. The dark red was more painful since the color tends to stain my cuticles. If you want to pick up this flakie polish for yourself, head over to the Born Pretty Store, where you can find it on sale for $3.69. Enjoy!

Bright Patchwork

It isn’t technically winter yet! Also, as of writing this, it has been unseasonably warm in Philly. So…fall themes are still appropriate!

Although, to be fair, I think I’d find a way to use rainbows no matter the season, but since patchwork designs somehow scream “autumn” I don’t feel terrible for postponing posting these until now!

I actually painted these back when I posted the fall-themed patchwork nails (the orange ones) but these were done with stamping decals to compare. Unsurprisingly, I liked the free-handed ones significantly more, but these were so much faster!

~ Orange: Nubar – Hot Orange
~ Yellow: Love & Beauty – Yellow
~ Green: Salon Perfect – Loopy Lime
~ Blue: Zoya – Ling
~ Purple: Sinful Colors – Dream On

That’s it for today! Also, despite all my chatter, the rest of this week is not themed in any way (unless “things that have been sited in my painted folder for months” is a theme). Hope you enjoyed!
