Jupiter in Purple

I love this mani. I have been meaning to make a watermable with glitter so that it looks variegated (instead of just swoopy lines, to get some irregularity) and this worked! It kinda looks like the surface of Jupiter to me, if Jupiter was purple and the red spot was also purple (my middle finger tip).

IMG_4988

I’m not going to lie, the sparkly stripe down the middle of my ring finger was…augmented…with extra polish. There was already some glitter there, but I wanted MORE. It was so shiny!

In retrospect, I think these also look a bit like geode nails? People were obsessed with those for a while, and the craze somewhat seems to have died down. I never did paint my own geode nails, and I should honestly do that sometime soon! The ones others have done a pretty :-D. Hope you enjoyed these!

Orchid over Purple

More blurple! I don’t know…I haven’t had a chance to transfer a lot of my newer designs onto my computer yet and I am running out of options. These are from early fall. And, of course, feature a darker periwinkle.

IMG_3757

I wanted to play with floral stamps because, in general, I either want to be playing with stamps that are flowers, swirls, or purely geometric. I have a LOT of similarly themed stamping plates!

IMG_3767

This was fun just because the base is so SPARKLY and how often do you get to color in orchids? Not often! Anyway, hope you enjoyed, and hopefully I will get my life together enough that I can post something more winter-themed come Wednesday!

Subtle Periwinkle Swirls

More blurple! Other than nude, purple/blurple/periwinkle is probably my most used color this year (I don’t know why). It is also easily my most-bought polish family this year!

IMG_3428

This particular color combination was REALLY tone-on-tone, and yet worked well! The scrubs I have to wear when I am on ICU blocks and in the emergency department are a pastel periwinkle-grey…which sounds pretty but lets be honest scrubs do not look good on ANYONE (and I am no exception). That said, when my nails match my scrubs I feel a tad bit classier than I have any right to when wearing scrubs! Hence all the blurple and periwinkle nails (never fear, there are more coming in the next few weeks :-p).

I do need to remember that Regents stamps well over Traverse though, they are so close in color that I figured this wouldn’t work out well. Voila! Hope you enjoyed 🙂

Gnarly Blossoms

I know it isn’t spring anymore, but I got the PERFECT base color and I just had to make this! I’ll likely do it again next year so it fits :-D. Also, flower day anyone? 😀

IMG_6909

This awesome design was inspired by ruthsnailart which I have recently become obsessed with. If we are being honest, I added too many cherry blossoms (I like her slightly more minimalist design) but this still looks pretty epic!

IMG_9914

The base is a stunning periwinkle blue/purple polish with copious pink-gold shimmer and silver flakies called Traverse the Skies by Emily de Molly. I have had my eyes on this polish ever since it came out, and it does not disappoint! I love it. It is super interesting (both in terms of color and finish), and is just close enough to purple that I’ve also already worn it to the hospital. This is three thin coats, although I probably could have gotten away with two if I was more careful.

IMG_9848

What you probably can’t tell is that there are THREE colors of brown in the tree branches (and an additional three colors of pink in the blossoms) and putting this all together took longer than I thought it would. That said, it was worth it! I am impressed.

IMG_9882

That’s about it for this one! I’ve never made cherry blossoms this way before (usually I try to make little flowers rather than dots) but I really like this. Hope you enjoyed it, happy flowers day!

Curled Explosions

The final purple mani this week! Although there may be more next week. I really like working with purple in the Spring.

IMG_5739

So, I absolutely love this mani. I love it so much I split it into two parts. Last week I showed the base of this mani, Blurple Smush Stars. I actually almost left it like that, but I decided to see if partially stamping over the background would highlight just how cool it looked. I consider this a success!

IMG_8596

I also, of course, wanted to show of a new plate from the Born Pretty Store. This is probably the plate I was most excited to get my hands on, I love swirly designs! Seriously…the two things I love most on my nails are swirls, and then geometric patterns. Its like I was made to stamp.

IMG_5740

This plate is a smaller square plate, called BP – X43. Despite its smaller size, it has 9 full designs, all of which are well-etched and absolutely stunning. I used a different design on each nail, just to test them out. They go so well together!

Great stamp, great base. If you want to pick up this stamping plate for yourself, Born Pretty Store has if for $2.19. Enjoy!

Blurple Smush Stars

This design is based of a technique totally new to me, and I love it! It takes little while to create (mostly because you need to let the design dry on a silicone mat before applying it to your nails) but it is pretty darn cool looking. I am calling it a squish design 🙂

IMG_5694

I was inspired by @alla_nails. Seriously though, this technique is amazing, and now I wish I owned a white polish that separated into cells (one of those intentionally spotty ones) because the designs you can make with one of THOSE is even cooler.

IMG_5701

The base polish that I used is yet another new one, called Danielle by Zoya. Danielle is a dark blurple creme, and is a true blurple, which is to say it is an almost perfect 50/50 mix of blue and purple. It is basically a dark periwinkle and is unique in my collection. Amazingly, this polish was almost a one-coater. I should just trust Zoya with cremes by this point, everything they make is magical. All of their cremes in the holiday collection have had phenomenal consistencies and pigmentation. So yah, I used two thin coats here but I really could have gotten away with one slightly thicker one.

IMG_5638

Actually getting the cool designs from the mat onto my nails was painful! I wanted to make very thin decals (since my nails are so curved) but the first one I tried to remove cracked! So I added top coat before removing them from the mat and they were thick enough to make wrinkles :-(. That said, I still think they look awesome! I might just use an even thicker coat of the dark base polish next time. I didn’t make any type of a video, but you can find the one from @alla_nails that I used here.

IMG_5713

I have been experimenting using this type of design with other colors, we will see what I come up with! It works best with contrast (dark color with white, light color with black). Hope you enjoyed!

Soothing Triangles

I just love teal-purple gradients. I would say that’s a problem, but I really don’t think it is!

IMG_5650

This mani was quite simple…although not as easy as it could have been! I just wanted to do gradients on the triangular tips of my nails, like this but I decided that wasn’t quite colorful enough. So, I made the chevrons deeper and turned them into a modified version of a previous mani of mine, which can be found here.

IMG_5504

At this point, I had three nails with some white and two nails that were just gradients. Of course, I had to bump my pointer nail, and thus got rid of my idea to just add a few dots (when in doubt I always add dots…it might NOT be the best plan!), and instead went to find a triangle stamp. I actually double stamped over the design twice to make the white really pop. I love it!

I forgot how much I’ve missed using striping tape! It really is the best. Hope you enjoyed!

Refreshing Dry Brush

I’m pretty sure these nails are my first ever attempt at a dry-brush mani. I have to say, it was fun, easy, and looks pretty cool! I think I’ll try it again sometime 🙂

IMG_5497

The design was inspired by badgirlnails. I made up the design on my thumb, and it looks cool too. Sadly, my ring finger tape is a bit wonky, but I only realized that AFTER I added top coat, so too late!

This mani reminds me of the time between spring and summer, when the swimming pools open! Its the teal. It has to be. It also works pretty well for Easter 🙂

Hope you enjoyed!

Dusk Flowers

As soon as my short medicine rotation finished, I went to attend my boyfriend’s sister’s graduation from her masters program. I picked out which dress I was going to wear (and it is awesome) and I painted my nails to match!

IMG_3569

The dress is a white-fading-to-blue in patches with lots of grey on it…and the blue is more of a dark periwinkle than a true blue. As it happened, I had just picked up my first periwinkle blue creme at ULTA on sale a week prior!

IMG_3573

Regents Place is a dusky periwinkle blue, and it is lovely! It covered nicely in two coats (I might have been able to get away with one if I was being careful), and self-leveled like a pro. I got this polish for <$2 on sale at ULTA, so if you like it you should go see if they have any on sale near you! Unfortunately, I got this back in May so they might be gone by now.

IMG_8990

Even though my nails are still tiny, I really like this one! Blues and white and flowers. The dress I had roses, but I liked my weird lily-like flower stamp better than the 2 rose-themed stamps I owned, and I was low enough on time to not want to hand-paint anything.
