Rose Golden Vines

I love this manicure. It is incredibly simple (its just a stamp) but the COLORS. Also, the base is seriously one of my favorite polishes. I almost never reach for it, but whenever I wear it I have to question my sanity about wearing anything else!

IMG_4863

There isn’t much to say about this. I actually wore it back in late Fall (hence the darker colors) but I don’t care. It is stunning. I want a dress that looks like Marrow Sea. To be fair, I remain obsessed with shimmery polishes, and this one has it in spades!

IMG_2277

Unfortunately, I still haven’t replaced my gold stamping polish, so all of my more recent manicures that involve metallic stamps have featured the same rose gold that you can see here. I really need to buy a new gold! I suppose it makes sense, but the only colors I ever run out of are my basic stamping polishes (black, white, gold, silver) and nude cremes. I want to buy more crazy glitters, but I never use them up! Too bad 🙂

That’s all for today! Hope you enjoyed 😀

Interlocking Chevrons

I love the concept behind this nail art, but I’m honestly not sure I love the execution? I think this design is busy enough that it would work better as an accent nail and not a full mani. So, just pick one or two nails and stare at them I guess!

IMG_2046

This mani was time-consuming because instead of using striping tape I used stamps and freehand to make everything. Basically, I stamped the initial gold triangle at my cuticle with Penny Talk and then filled in the design (which was hollow) with Juliette. Once that was top coated and dried, I did the rest. I stamped with a black creme polish the black chevrons, and then the rose gold chevron again (each was an individual stamp…so there are 4 stamps on each nail except my thumb which was 6). I then colored in the black stamps with Storm, and did my best to spare the crossing rose gold. I could have just stamped with Penny Talk after the black was all dry, but that would be ANOTHER layer of top coat and drying and I was feeling lazy. So I colored around it :-p….it probably took longer anyway.

IMG_2037

Again, needlessly complicated, but in the end kinda cool? I’ve been back on a bit of a geometric kick recently. I wish I had time for some freehand, I’ve been feeling inspired! That’s all for today, for Friday we get back to colors and some flowers! Hope you enjoyed 🙂

Marching Copper Trees

To be fair, when I painted these (well, stamped them) it was a few weeks out from Christmas. I always thought this particular stamp looked rather like christmas trees if you only used half of it! Otherwise it looks like stylized stalactites and stalagmites.

Of course, any manicure using an awesome mutlichrome and a rose gold stamping polish is going to look pretty good. This was easy to make pretty!

Short, sweet, and straightforward! If it helps, the reason this post is so short is that I am taking Step 3 of the medical board exam tomorrow. And Friday. Because of course it is a two day test *grumble grumble* but after this Friday I am free again!

Rosey Copper Golden Patterns

Rose AND copper AND gold (oh my)! Between the nude and the shimmery metallic-tones of Frohe Feiertage I didn’t know what to call this mani at all. I love how the nail art looks, a bit tone-on-tone and a lot glittery, but naming it was a challenge!

IMG_3417

If I’m being honest, there isn’t much to say about this manicure, other than ‘ooooh shiny’ because its mostly just a stamp over a sparkly base. Sometimes, however, that just works!

IMG_0092

I should probably start writing down some of the tone-on-tone color combos that I like; it isn’t something that I would reach for if left to my own devices, but it works great in the hospital! However, it does fail pretty regularly (and then I have to restart my whole manicure, which is time-consuming).

Anyway, thats it for today! Wednesday’s post is far more colorful. Hope you enjoyed!

Toned Down Frills

I will never give up on nail art! Even if it becomes increasingly harder to manage due to time and responsibilities. Anyway. When I started residency I knew I needed nails that were subtle and pale pink and all that appropriate stuff, but also fancy and fun enough that I wouldn’t be disappointed in myself. Voila!

IMG_3346

So yes, this is the nail art I had on for my first few days of residency. TECHNICALLY I think we are not supposed to have any type of design on our nails? But I don’t remember exactly the rules and its not like I’d ever paint something disrespectful so, we shall see. Hopefully no one gets angry about painted nails!

IMG_9947

I ended going for a nude with a design that is tone-on-tone, and unsurprisingly I suppose not a single person noticed! I have since then worn less subtle designs and so far its been good!

IMG_9946

Anyway, hope you can appreciate my pain at short and subtle nails! Happy Friday!

Rose Gold Rows

This is a super complicated mani, but I kinda love it. I was sent some very tiny rose gold caviar beads to review from the Born Pretty Store, and I went to town with them!

IMG_3259

Most of my caviar beads are what I would consider standard size…which is easily twice the size of these ones. Look at how many pretty rows are on my middle finger! I ended up mix-and-matching with a fishtail, some other studs, and basic diagonals. I had seen a similar mani online, but I didn’t want to use a black base so I settled on a very dark blue with subtle gold shimmer 🙂

IMG_9725

Colors:
~ Dark blue: Zoya – Blake
~ Rose gold metallic: Essie – Penny Talk

IMG_3260

I have never really tried to place a bunch of studs and then surround them with caviar beads, mostly because my other caviar beads are larger, and the whole thing takes forever. That said, I did my middle finger first (well, I did the polish-only nails first, but it was the first nails with 3D elements) and since that only took 10 minutes, I went ahead and did the others with lots of tiny beads too. Success!

IMG_9729

If you want to pick up these tiny beads for yourself, head over to the Born Pretty Store, where you can find them for $1.79. I kinda love them, and can’t wait to figure out ways to use them now!

Twirling Over Purple

I really have been on a purple kick! This seems to be a theme. I like purple, what can I say!

IMG_2385-1

At least for this mani I have an excuse: I used my swatch nails from the Purple Metallics to create these! I just added two stripes of a different color to each nail, creating a very crude gradient of random purple metallic. I then stamped with some twirls, and voila! Not half bad honestly.

IMG_8746

This is also my last post with four photos rather than three for a while…it takes me around 30 minutes to edit each photo to my satisfaction and I haven’t had time for two hours per post! So three photos it is. This one has four though because I edited in stages and, as previously stated, I like purple :-p. I have a hunch my more loved manis are going to get 4 (and the just ok ones will get three).

IMG_2382-1

Anyway, hope you enjoyed! Happy Friday! I am quite excited because although I am on call today (this was pre-posted since I am sleeping in the hospital tonight), I only have 3 more ICU call days this block! And I get to go see Jersey Boys tomorrow! For FREE! 😀

Down the Incline

This was a fun mani to put together! I always love combining multichromes an seeing what comes out of them. This was especially rewarding because I had never come up with an idea on how to use these stamps before and I love how it came out!

IMG_2051

So, between a multichrome gradient and two different colored stamps, I ended up with a big of a complicated mani. I don’t care. For once, complicated works!

IMG_7929

Also, this mani is a bit of a temporal milestone: I officially start residency tomorrow (in the cardiac intensive care unit) AND it’s my 30th birthday tomorrow. So, I am leaving behind my 20’s, and starting to care for really sick patients in one go. This also means that, while I will try, my posting schedule is likely to get a bit wonky while I am staffing the CCU!

I only used two multichromes in the gradient on these nails, so while the other colors do shine through, the primary purple is Undenied, and the primary gold is Greatness. Hope you enjoyed, and happy early birthday to me!

Golden Lace

You guys. THIS POLISH. I feel like I say that about every polish that I pick up from the Polish Pickup Pack! I’ve been buying ~2 polishes every other month, since for some reason they seem to alternate off-months with things I love. I need to stop buying so many new polishes but each is more strange and incredible than the last!

IMG_5060

This is one I was hesitant about, since some of the swatch photos looked incredible and others looked forgettable. However, I have never owned a CbL polish and have always wanted one…and they are known for their holos! So I went with it and I am glad I did. This polish is awesome!

IMG_8459

What you see here are three thin coats of Frohe Feiertage! (which I will never ever spell correctly without looking at the bottle). I probably could have gotten away with two if I was more careful. the polish dries a bit gritty, so this is with top coat. That said, this is such a pretty polish! It is from the December Polish Pickup, and thus is no longer available, but if you like funky cool polishes I recommend you join the fb group! You never have to buy anything if you don’t want.

IMG_5025

The weird thing about this polish is that I couldn’t actuality tell what color it was. Supposedly the base is a silver holo, but honestly it is so full of shimmer and glitter that it isn’t remotely silver! The polish is swimming with gold and silver glitters, and packed with so much copper-to-gold shimmer that the overall look is a rose gold with flecks of gold and silver in it. I bought it to replace one of my favorite Mentality polishes when it turned out that Mentality was destroying my nails -_- and it is, if anything, much prettier than that darn polish!

Of course, being me, I ended up adding a floral lace stamp over the polish because I didn’t want to cover too much of it. Hope you enjoyed!

Rose Gold Wisps

Today begins a series of interview (aka work-appropriate) manis! Basically, when I went to residency interviews, I had to paint my nails in such a way that if anyone looked (or asked to see) they had a cool design, and if people were not paying attention, they just looked like a solid color.

IMG_2464

This all came about because I listed “nail art” as one of my hobbies on my residency application. I can’t really regret this move, since it both allowed me to actually paint and subtly design my nails during the interviews, and because it occasionally came up in conversation! I even found one fellow application who had previously done nail art (and we talked about stamping plates).

IMG_7762

The design you see here is what I wore to my first interview (read: before I broke any nails flying. I always break at least one nail whenever I fly and I don’t understand WHY but my nail shape will start to get wonky after this one). I wanted something subtle but fun!

IMG_2455

This is basically just Cherish by Picture Polish (nude with subtle holo) stamped with plate BP-L049 using Penny Talk by Essie (rose gold metallic). The residents at dinner noticed it and were impressed (or confused, in the case of the men). None of the interviewers asked!

IMG_7748

Hope you enjoyed! Since I had to go to so darn many interviews (why does neurology have a separate internal medicine year? I don’t know), I have decided to do a work-friendly month of manis. Which is to say the next 3 weeks are going to be nothing but boring nude work-appropriate nails. :-p

Bright Bursts

I love this polish, but I really am not enjoying the design I put over it! I feel like that has been happening more frequently :-/

IMG_7716

The base color here is the last of my new F.U.N. Lacquer polishes. This is three thin coats of Cheers to the Holidays (H), but the last coat really wasn’t necessary. The polish is a purple multichrome that shifts to bright pink, but has a bright blue shimmery flash…AND holo glitters AND gold sparkle that of course turns red and purple. Wow. This polish looked fantastically different in different lights.

IMG_2155

For the design, I tried to stamp with black but it didn’t show up…but that is why my pointer and middle finger look like they have more depth to them. I ended up stamping in pink and then using rose gold to color in little bits of the stamp, hoping it would pick up the rose gold in Cheers, but that didn’t happen.

I need to wear this base color again but with something else over the top! It is so colorful that I don’t know WHAT over the top, but I’ll figure it out.

Hope you enjoyed!

Rose Golden Hills

I was trying to do a black/rose gold alternating pattern, and I think it worked almost too well! You can barely tell that one side of each nail was gold while the other was black.

img_6872

I had hoped this mani would be super optical-illusion-y (look at all those dashes), but instead it just looks boring. Ah well, live and learn!

img_2901

This is also why I enjoy using more than two colors in my manicures :-p

img_2900

Sorry for the boring design today, tune back in on Friday for something prettier and sparklier!

Taking Aim

This started out as a great idea, and sort of fell apart as I went! Oh well. It certainly is glittery, so I’m using it for “glitter” day in the 31 day challenge.

img_0807

The base here is by far the best part of this mani. It is one of the newer releases from ILNP in the ultra-metallic line (or something like that). Basically, it is a mix of rose-gold metallic glitter flakies and holo flecks and it is awesome! This is two coats of  Juliette, and I am very happy with it! SO MUCH SHINY.

img_0768

The problem is that the stamp I picked covered a whole bunch of the glitter! I thought it would cover less. And then I added a red rhinestone (why red? I don’t know. I should have done blue or something) so you can barely see the rose gold glitter! Oops.

Anyway, yes glitter, yes awesome polish, no not cool design. Live and learn!

Starbucks: Neons and Teal

This mani is, oddly enough, inspired by a Starbucks Reserve card! My friends in lab were out at lunch and saw that the local Starbucks had a collection of really pretty cards out to advertise their coffee from around the world, and grabbed three of them for me! This is the first mani inspired by a card, in this case “West Java”.

IMG_4530

This is actually my least favorite of the cards, which is why I wanted to start with it. I put a lot of work into the background for this mani, and you can’t even see it! I started with a dark teal – light teal – dark teal gradient (so the tips and base of my nail were dark while the middle was light) to mimic the card, and then went and added three stamps (neon yellow, neon orange, then rose gold metallic) to try and mimic the pattern on the card. Although I think it worked, you can barely see the teal!

IMG_2306

I would NEVER have thought to combine these colors on my own. Teal and orange and yellow?? My nail looks really busy, but it also looks cool!

IMG_2320

~ Stamps: EdM – 09, 17 & BM – 223

IMG_4483

Well, what do you think? I really like the cards, and I wish I had more of them! Some are STUNNING. I don’t even drink coffee (it tastes awful, I prefer tea or hot chocolate) but I wish my local Starbucks had more of these, they make for fun nail art ideas!

Banded Rose Gold

Sometimes simple and clean manis are the best. Usually, I am one for lines and dots and swirls and colors…but I saw an awesome New Years mani by Paulina’s Passions and I just had to recreate it!

IMG_1703

The only difficult thing about this was that it involved many layers of tape and thus took a long time waiting in between tape application. I do wish I had a rose gold glitter (I used a holo, but it isn’t quite the same), but it came out alright regardless I think!

IMG_1702

I need to mix rose gold and black more. I tend to shy away from black as a main color because its rather lacking in, well, color…but it works beautifully for contrast!

Fireworks

New Years Eve! It only made sense to post fireworks for today 😀

IMG_1694

Now, I cheated for this. The gold and rose gold are stamps! Well, one stamp that I set up in a gradient. All the bright flecks of color come from the purple base, which is three thin coats of Fowl Play! I don’t use this polish nearly as much as I should. Its quite pretty.

IMG_1693

The stamp that I used was from the hehe plate 024 from Lady Queen Beauty that I said I had used nearly every design from in the past month. Ta-da, firework design! It’s so cool.
