Posts tagged ‘short nails’

This manicure makes me happy and sad, which is unusual for something as simple as nail art! But looking at these, as much as I hate my nail length, I like how they ended up!

Once they were done, they reminded me of a stone so I went looking for something appropriate on the internet. Apparently, serpentine is a deep green stone with flecks of color and beige-gold veins. Perfect! I wish I could say I was TRYING to make a pretty rock, but I was mostly just having fun with flakies and stamps.

I wasn’t initially going to post these because I broke three nails (omg so sad) and my nails are painfully short and slightly misshapen as a result. However, I liked how the design came out, so I am posting them anyway! Maybe those of you with short nails will find inspiration.

That’s it for today! Hope the middle of the week isn’t terrible for anyone else (I am on call today so I left at 6:30am and likely won’t be home until 11pm), but oh well!

Ups and Downs

To me, this ended up looking a bit like a red-and-black topographical map, ergo the title!

I don’t have much to say about this…my nails were short, I wanted to use Blaze by Zoya, and this stamp looked interesting. Blaze always ALWAYS goes on darker than I think it will! I still like the polish, but I don’t know how frequently I am going to keep wearing it, I have other prettier burgundies (and Zoya just isn’t the best at scattered holos).

Only one more pre-posted mani after this, I should be returning from Hawaii on Wednesday! I have a hunch that I won’t WANT to come back, but oh well.

Hope you enjoyed!

Smooth Array

I did a series of blue-grey nails while I was wearing scrubs in the fall (since they matched my scrubs). I was thinking of putting them all up over one week, but I think you guys would get bored so I am spreading them out!

This was probably one of my favorites, but it was barely sunny so you can’t see much of the awesome holo base 😦

This past year was all about buying muted colors that I might be able to wear in the hospital…I hope I can convince myself that its ok to buy a few more vibrant ones this year! I was looking through other bloggers “top 10 polishes” lists, and really I only saw a few polishes that I wanted and only one badly enough to keep my eyes on it (Nine Zero Lacquer – Singer’s Auto Salvage). Oh well!

Hope you enjoyed! Happy Friday 🙂

Dangles and Lace

This did not come out how I planned…mostly because I can’t make curved dotted lines on my non-dominant hand! This was initially supposed to be a slightly modified version of @twi_star@twi_star. I like that I added extra draped beads (and the silver) but I wish I had been able to make the delineating dots consistent! Also water decals >> stamps. I just don’t have the right water decals. Whoops!

In other news, I really hate the names of Nails Inc polishes. I know they are named after places in England…but they are impossible to remember. Give me SOMETHING more creative!

That’s all for today. My current rotation is kicking my butt and I didn’t get a chance to edit my nail art this past weekend cause of Thanksgiving!

Tri Tri Angle

I love how this came out! I had been waiting to use this stamp for months, and here we go :-D. Something about all the triangles and tiny lines just called to me.

Unfortunately, I had a litttttle more trouble picking up the fine lines on the stamp than I anticipated, and I was in just enough of a rush to not have time to go back and redo any nails. Whoops!

It still came out looking pretty awesome. Shifty and triangle-y and edgy. Mutlichromes are the best chromes!

Hope you enjoyed! I haven’t picked which “theme week” I am posting yet next week…Disney? Work-appropriate? Flowery? Let’s see where my mental magic 8-ball takes me!

Dizzying Descent

Another week of chrome-based manis. Today’s is the simplest, but also rather cute! My nails were still short from being in the hospital, but I picked up a new glitter topper polish and I wanted to play with it!

Frosted Cupcake by whim (which I got at ULTA) is a mix of variously sized white matte glitters and holo glitters. It is somewhat sparse, but easy to work with. The bottle is smaller than usual, and usually costs wayyyy too much money (by my standards) but I got this for $2 so I consider it worth it! The clearance section at ULTA is my best friend.

I thought Frosted Cupcake would make a decent star-base for a galaxy mani, and somehow turned that into going through a warp zone? At least, that is what I was going for. The awesomely dizzying nested squares from a stamp on B Loves Plates 03 caught my eye and I just had to try it! I maybe should have added a bit more of a galaxy-like feel rather than just using a blue metallic polish as my base, but it was late at night and I wanted to see how much glitter Frosted Cupcake had. Voila!

~ Blue: Zoya – Estelle
~ White glitter: whim – Frosted Cupcake
~ White: Mentality – White Opaque
~ Stamp: B Loves Plates – 03 Mind Blown

Despite how quick and easy this mani was (polish, glitter topper, stamp, done!), I still think it looks pretty cool! I tried to center the stamps on each nail around a central empty spot or glitter piece in particular, I don’t know why. It worked out in the end!

Peacock Down

This mani makes me sad. There is one wonderful part and one should-have-been-wonderful part.

The wonderful part is the new polish, the base color here…or colors 😀 This is Reminisce by ILNP, a bright green-teal-blue-purple multichrome! And as with all other ILNP multichromes I am smitten. I already own Mutagen, which I intended to be a green-based multichrome but is honestly more of a silvery-pink in direct light. Still pretty, but not as bright green as I wanted! Reminisce’s primary direct light color is a vibrant green, and it has a decent shift (not quite as strong as some of the others) but its lovely. This is three thin coats.

The problem arose when I went to play with a new stamping plate that I was sent to review from the Born Pretty Store. Now, I love peacocks. I really really do. Their feathers make me squee with joy. I saw this plate and I knew I had to have it…peacock feathers and a peacock body?! Yes please!

Unfortunately, the plate barely works. I had to try every trick I know just to get the image to pick up at all, and even then it was very very faint. I couldn’t get the body of the peacock (what I really wanted) to transfer at all, and the feathers are rather in pieces. I tried for probably 35 minutes before just going with what I had. I added some gold dots to the eyes of the feathers because I could.

So, while you can pick up this peacock stamping plate from the Born Pretty Store, I can’t recommend it! The design is beautiful but very poorly etched. It is probably just an issue on a few plates, but I can’t tell you to get something that I can barely use. Regardless, it is 99 cents right now at the Born Pretty Store.

That being said, you can totally buy the peacock-colored Reminisce from ILNP (no, I do not review for them, I just reallllly like the polish)! So, failed peacock but happy peacock colors!

Mauve Lace

While I was doing my brief return-to-medicine rotation, I wore two manicures. The first one was SUPER subtle, and you’ll see it tomorrow. The other one was slightly prettier (because it contains no pink and I like lace) which you’ll see today!

I figured after the first week with my teeny tiny pink nails, that I could get away with a grey-purple polish and some white lace stamps. No one even noticed my nails had designs on them, so I count it as a win! They weren’t grading me anyway…and one of the poor interns on my teams had a truly horrifying shade of slightly see-through light blue. Her nails looked diseased.

Regardless, purple, white, and lace! I actually bought this purple about 6 months ago explicitly so I could wear it on the wards with no one noticing. It is just interesting enough (with the shimmer and the tiny gold flakies) for me to be happy with it, but subtle enough that no one else could tell there was anything unusual going on with my nails!

~ Purple: ILNP – Long Walks
~ White: Wet n’ Wild – French White Creme
~ Stamp: BC – 10

This is a week of “tiny nails” so, I’m sorry about that! For what its worth, they all look ok (I mean, I am biased) but still. I miss my longer nails!

Encased in Diamond

My nails are so tiny! And so sad. I went to New York City this past weekend to hang out with some friends, and in the process slightly broke two nails and completely devastated a third. I cut both of my hands down…but you can still see the devastation on my pointer finger here. It ripped halfway down into my nail bed 😦

Despite this terrible tear (which I am going to attempt to patch up and grow out, if I can), this mani came out quite cute! I had been looking at this diamond pattern on B. Loves Plates plate 03, but it was a tilted diamond…however, since my nails are so short I was able to apply it vertically!

The stamp has two colors on it, a lighter blue in the middle and a darker blue on either side. I thought it was rather fun!

~ Silver: Darling Diva – Diamond
~ Blue: Zoya – Ling
~ Dark blue: Maybelline – Midnight Swim
~ Stamp: B Loves Plates – 03 Mind Blown

Hope you enjoyed, despite my nubbins, and wish me luck growing out my poor destroyed pointer!! (Also to note – this is the first post that actually survived the great save failure that you guys will be reading about shortly. Yay! I am posting super out-of-order)

Falling Leaves

This bit of art was inspired by lissamel9! I loved her fall-themed nail art and just went with it. Her nails are a bit longer than mine, and I get the feeling she used at least a little acrylic. But I prevailed!

I really love painting trees. I’m not the greatest at it, but its a lot of fun! Trees with awesome color-changing leaves are even better 😀

Happy fall! I should have some of my recent favorite coming up later this week, so stay tuned!

Enjoy 😀

Imperial Dots

My nails are so short! The night before I left for Thailand, I cut off my nails to little tiny nubbins and did somewhat-matching manis on each of my hands (the theme was gold). So, this is my left hand!

I more or less just grabbed a gold and a red, and started dotting. Because dotting is my default for everything! I’m ok with how it came out, and the design lasted 5 or so days before I picked it off.

~ Red: Zoya – India
~ Gold: Mentality – Rapture

I still love the holographic red/gold of Rapture! Although to be fair the polish I really wanted to use was India. I need to stop buying polish only to use it once! I have so many pretty colors and I need to play with them more.

Hope you enjoyed!

Rainbow Lines

I settled on MORE RAINBOWS for today! Which means butterflies next week (which really should not make me happy but YOU SHALL SEE). And its 2am, so I am typing with far too many capitol letters (sorry!). Anyway, rainbows!

I saw this design by Pack a Punch Polish many months ago, and just had to try it myself! I waited until a nail broke (I maintain that this is a design that looks better with shorter nails) and went for it. Rainbows galore!

~ White: Sinful Colors – Snow me White
~ Pink: WOW – #371
~ Orange: Zoya – Thandie
~ Yellow: WOW – #301
~ Green: Essie: The More The Merrier
~ Teal: Essie – Naughty Nautical
~ Blue: Zoya – Ling
~ Purple: Zoya – Monica

I never aim to buy creme polishes…left to my own devices I always go for crazy glitters and things that shift colors, but it is nice to have a full stock of creme polishes finally! I still need a dark grey, but otherwise…voila! So now I can make ALL THE RAINBOWS.
