Sunfire Squish Marble

I don’t know you guys. This entire manicure is only two colors (yellow and red) but it was SO PAINFUL. Long story short, do not try to apply decals that you made on a mat using a stamper!! The decals ended up so bent (particularly my pointer and middle finger where I applied using the stamper) that I had to add dots! I do like the dots, but I kinda wish I ended up with the pure stamping marble. To translate: if you create a flat stamping decal on a mat, do not then try to bend it onto a stamping head, and then try to bend it in the opposite direction onto your nails. None of that will work and you will be left with a broken mess!

Also, this rather looks like funky bacterial agar? Which is cute if you are really into plasmids or some such, but also looks creepy once you think of it! Oh science, you have changed my perspective, sometimes for the creepy :-P. This is only going up now because I figured red and yellow are fall colors, and if I didn’t post it soon I was going to lose my nerve! These nails are a disaster.

Purple Cobblestone Path

Time to see the nail art that I did over all those weird swatch tests from the last few weeks! This is from my purple cremes day.

IMG_7365

I decided to start by mashing together all 5 purples (basically sponged them on randomly on each nail). After that was done, I stamped over the purple mash with a blobbed combo of three colors (one of which was a different lighter purple), and then stamped on top of that with a metallic purple.

Basically, I painted them a single purple, sponged on 4 other purples, stamped cobblestones with 3 purples, and topped with a metallic purple. So very purple! I do like that the cobblestones at least showed up!

I am glad I wrote down the colors list when I painted these, or I would have no idea what was going on! Anyway, I hope you enjoyed!

Curled Explosions

The final purple mani this week! Although there may be more next week. I really like working with purple in the Spring.

So, I absolutely love this mani. I love it so much I split it into two parts. Last week I showed the base of this mani, Blurple Smush Stars. I actually almost left it like that, but I decided to see if partially stamping over the background would highlight just how cool it looked. I consider this a success!

I also, of course, wanted to show of a new plate from the Born Pretty Store. This is probably the plate I was most excited to get my hands on, I love swirly designs! Seriously…the two things I love most on my nails are swirls, and then geometric patterns. Its like I was made to stamp.

This plate is a smaller square plate, called BP – X43. Despite its smaller size, it has 9 full designs, all of which are well-etched and absolutely stunning. I used a different design on each nail, just to test them out. They go so well together!

Great stamp, great base. If you want to pick up this stamping plate for yourself, Born Pretty Store has if for $2.19. Enjoy!

Blurple Smush Stars

This design is based of a technique totally new to me, and I love it! It takes little while to create (mostly because you need to let the design dry on a silicone mat before applying it to your nails) but it is pretty darn cool looking. I am calling it a squish design 🙂

IMG_5694

I was inspired by @alla_nails. Seriously though, this technique is amazing, and now I wish I owned a white polish that separated into cells (one of those intentionally spotty ones) because the designs you can make with one of THOSE is even cooler.

IMG_5701

The base polish that I used is yet another new one, called Danielle by Zoya. Danielle is a dark blurple creme, and is a true blurple, which is to say it is an almost perfect 50/50 mix of blue and purple. It is basically a dark periwinkle and is unique in my collection. Amazingly, this polish was almost a one-coater. I should just trust Zoya with cremes by this point, everything they make is magical. All of their cremes in the holiday collection have had phenomenal consistencies and pigmentation. So yah, I used two thin coats here but I really could have gotten away with one slightly thicker one.

IMG_5638

Actually getting the cool designs from the mat onto my nails was painful! I wanted to make very thin decals (since my nails are so curved) but the first one I tried to remove cracked! So I added top coat before removing them from the mat and they were thick enough to make wrinkles :-(. That said, I still think they look awesome! I might just use an even thicker coat of the dark base polish next time. I didn’t make any type of a video, but you can find the one from @alla_nails that I used here.

I have been experimenting using this type of design with other colors, we will see what I come up with! It works best with contrast (dark color with white, light color with black). Hope you enjoyed!
