Refreshing Dry Brush

I’m pretty sure these nails are my first ever attempt at a dry-brush mani. I have to say, it was fun, easy, and looks pretty cool! I think I’ll try it again sometime 🙂

The design was inspired by badgirlnails. I made up the design on my thumb, and it looks cool too. Sadly, my ring finger tape is a bit wonky, but I only realized that AFTER I added top coat, so too late!

This mani reminds me of the time between spring and summer, when the swimming pools open! Its the teal. It has to be. It also works pretty well for Easter 🙂

Hope you enjoyed!

Poppies on Teal

I just really really wanted to use Pending Perfection again (this polish CALLS me…yes I rewatched Moana last night) and so I grabbed a vaguely floral plate and went to town! It just so happens that I ended up putting together a super Spring-y mani that I am using now leading up to Easter! (Yes, I also know its the first night of Passover, but I don’t wanna make matzoh nails again.)

I ended up using a poppy stamp with black polish, and then coloring in the poppies with a pink jelly. Once that was done it looked a little boring, so I added a border of yellow jelly polish inside the flowers. It ended up pretty cool!

If I had to do it over, I think I would have started with the yellow, since the few flowers that have visible yellow are my favorite (rather than mostly pink with a bit of orange), but oh well!

~ Pink: Zoya – Paloma
~ Yellow: Esmalta da Kelly – Yellow Soap Bubble

Which is better, the rounded nails or the straight edge nails? I think I like the straight better on this (unsurprisingly), but I got better photos of my rounded nails! Whoops. Hope you enjoyed, and happy Seder!

Pretty Purple Floral

Finally, a post suitable for spring! I usually go towards either dark saturated colors, or very pale nude colors (for the hospital). This mani is just dark enough that I didn’t know if I’d be able to wear it in the hospital, but not so dark that I felt transgressive wearing it on the weekends! Especially with those rhinestones. However, I was safe! No one even noticed :-p

The art was inspired by @lifeisbetterpolished, because I would never think of something with hand-outlined flowers. For good reason as it turns out…I am never hand-outlining flowers again. That took forever! The results were really satisfying, however.

Painting these onto my right hand was incredibly challenging, but worked out ok as well! I really enjoyed wearing this mani, despite the lack of bold colors 🙂

Thus ends my week of awesome manis! Back to regular things next week…a mix of good and meh. But no more required classes and ridiculous exams for me! Happy Friday!

Blue Mosaic Flowers

Usually, when I paint flowers, I will do a color against a lighter colored background. However, I stumbled across this awesome bit of art at Nail Art N3rd, and had to see if I could recreate it!

I had to layer on two coats of each of the blues to get them to stand out starkly against the black background, but I think it was worth it! The end result is rather striking, if I do say so myself. I miss blacks and blues :-(. My nails were been pale pink all last week.

These flowers are like an ad for blue Zoya cremes. Wow. And Zoya just released another blue creme and I want that one too! Its ridiculous. I don’t need this mani blues! But then again, they allow me to create a mani like this…so maybe its worth it!

Hope you enjoyed, and happy Monday…if Monday’s can be happy :-p. I’m going to continue with the Monday-Wenesday-Friday posting this week. This past weekend I was in Rhode Island to attend my boyfriend’s sister’s graduation from her masters program. Fun times!

Blooming Blossoms

Today begins my time back in the hospital. This means two things for the blog:

  • Between now and mid-septemer I am more-or-less not allowed to wear nail polish, and my nails MUST be kept tiny
  • I will not be updating the blog daily

I have a back-log of almost 30 manis to post, intentionally. I figured if I painted my nails more frequently for the past few months, then I would be able to keep posting even while I can’t currently paint my nails! It has somewhat worked out. However, if I want to keep the blog updated until I can start doing nail art again (at least a little bit in September) then I won’t be able to post daily anymore! Ergo, I will try posting Monday-Wednesday-Friday from hereon out until I run out of blog posts. Sorry for the less-frequent updates, but I figured it was better than posting for a month straight and then not at all for two months!

Today’s nails were inspired by dutchnailss, because I painted these back at the beginning of spring. Even if there are no longer cherry blossoms on the trees, this mani is still pretty!

The base color here was a new polish, called There be Mermaids! by Powder Perfect. I have never used Powder Perfect before, and I think I should have started earlier! Mermaids took three thin coats for coverage, but dried quickly. The end result is slightly gritty, as there are small chunks of blackish glitter in with the holo pigment, i’m not sure why. Regardless, Mermaids is a beautiful blue-leaning teal with scattered holo and it is a REALLY pretty color. Its like a swimming pool! Oddly, I specifically love the brush (although I had to pull out two wayward bristles before I could use it). The brush is thin, bendy, and totally awesome! I don’t know that I’ve ever commented on a bottle’s brush before, so there we go.

Anyway, hope you enjoyed! I’ll be back on Wednesday with another post and maybe an update on my clinic time! I have forgotten EVERYTHING I learned in my 2 years of medical school!

Triangulate in Green

If yesterday was my pink/red collection, today is devoted to teal and green! Same concept, but with a white stamp.

I actually don’t know if I like the pink/red or teal/green better. I usually go more for teals, but the pink was so BRIGHT. This is also super colorful, but doesn’t quite have the neon pop!

Hilariously enough, this was also painted to match a dress that I wore to a different wedding! Lots of weddings you guys. So many weddings. Which means lots of fun dresses to coordinate with, but still! I’m also a terrible person who has taken to facebook to look at all the pictures of people I peripherally know (and thus whose weddings I am not invited to but get to see photos from) and judging all their wedding dresses. Seeing as how there appear to be at least 4 weddings per weekend for the last 2 months, I’ve been judging a lot of dresses!

~ Light teal: Wet n’ Wild – I Need a Refresh-Mint
~ Dark teal: Salon Perfect – Escape to Neverland
~ Blue: OPI – Into the Night
~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black

Hope you enjoyed! Total change of pace tomorrow (unless you thought I meant more stamping…but no, there is always stamping).

Cherry Red Blossoms

More water decals! These were super easy, and ultimately super pretty! Yay for fast manicures 🙂

The blossoms and design are from full-nail water decals that I got from Lady Queen Beauty. The background of the design is clear, so I put them over white (I could have done a very pale pink but I wasn’t sure just by looking if the background was see-through or not). The thumb design was a tiny bit too skinny for my thumb, but I just tilted it, so you can barely tell since the flowers fade out at the edge anyway!

The water decals are thick enough to be pulled off their backing without breaking, but thin enough to lie flat. These ones are quite well made! Once they were on and cleaned with acetone, I added tiny dabs of gold polish into the center of the flowers. Initially they were clear with black dots, but small amounts of glitter make everything better 😀

I do love free-handing nail art, but these would have been too complicated to do! I’m glad water decals exist…I much prefer them to stickers (they stay on better, lie flat, and the patterns are much more detailed). Go figure!

You can pick up these cherry blossom decals from Lady Queen Beauty for $2.25. Don’t forget to use my 15% off code, BPLC15! Enjoy!
