This mani was painted because I wanted to see what would happen if I combined all three of my ILNP multi chromes and then added silver holographic lines. Basically, SO MUCH COLOR. Even though there are only 4 nail polishes visible and one of those is silver.
The interesting insight into this (I had no real plan) was my boyfriend (oh god, do I have to call him fiancé? frightening!), who immediately told me that it looked like “the stained glass in Abhorsen’s house” from the Sabriel/Lirael/Abhorsen trilogy. He is totally right. Complete with quasi-magical color shifting!
Depending on how I look at my nails, I am getting an entire rainbow from three colors. It’s awesome. Mutagen is doing a pink-green-blue thing, Birefringence is doing teal-blue-purple, and Masquerade is doing magenta-orange-gold-green. It’s killing me. And the holo in Harp On It (Color Club) is just icing on the rainbow cake! I should mention that these are all brushed on free-hand over black creme, except obviously Harp On It. That was freehanded with a striping brush.
For all that this mani took less than 20 minutes, it looks EPIC. Seriously. Colors! I need to try a real gradient with these three colors, somehow.
Gah. Ok. I’ll try to contain my photo-taking-madness. Magic nails! I know these aren’t actually book-based, but I didn’t have anything else and once Abhorsen was mentioned I just had to use them!
This manicure was inspired by a number of ‘stained glass’ type manis I had been seeing on pinterest. Unfortunately I had neither the time nor the stamp necessary to recreate the ones I had found…so this is a pale imitation. I will try again when I have more time to freehand!
That being said, the star polish here is STUNNING. May I present, for your viewing pleasure, Festival by piCture pOlish. Oh man. SO MANY FLAKIES! I love flakie glitter, but I only own one other (Maisie by Zoya) and this is just amazing.
Blue, green, orange, teal, pink, gold….I don’t even know how many colors are in this! It did need 3 coats to get good coverage, but they were very thin coats and they dried fast. So many colors!
The look I was going for can be seen here. I ended up using bundle monster plate 206, which has thicker lines that I would have liked. The result is cool looking, but does not look like stained glass! Next time, thinner lines. I also need to see what this looks like mattified!
- Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black
- Flakie: piCture pOlish – Festival
- White: Zoya – Purity
- Top Coat: Glisten&Glow – HK Girl
If any of you noticed my little…mistake…I’m sorry. Yes, my pinky stamp is upside-down. It was late. O.o
Continuing my Halloween theme, today we have fire, and fire through a stained glass window!
This was my first attempt at making my own nail decal. I stamped the design on my two middle fingers onto the stamper, hand-painted in each “window” shard, added two thick layers of top coat, and used it as a sticker!
In the future (and to any of you lovely ladies who want to try this) I recommend doing only ONE coat of top coat. Two was too thick, and as you can see one of my decals snapped when I tried to bend it to my finger. Both were too thick to really look great. I do so love the fiery gradient on my other nails though!
- Red: Pure Ice – Siren
- Orange: Wet n’ Wild – Sunny Side Up
- Coral: Ruby Wing – Peony
- Pink: Essie – Sunday Funday
- Yellow: Revlon – Electric
- Neon yellow: Forever 21 – Yellow
- Black: Julie G – Black Sheep
- Stamp: Bundle Monster – 208
Despite using a color changing polish, there was very little color change on my nails. Maybe I used too much topcoat?
Hope you enjoyed!
Beauty and the Beast will always hold a special place in my heart…it was the first show I acted/sang/dance in during college, and “Tale as Old as Time” was the song playing when I my boyfriend and I celebrated our one year anniversary a while ago. These nails, for the OMD Challenge “Movie” are inspired by Beauty and the Beast.
I had been wanting to try a stained glass flower for a while…but I think I got too ambitious. A flower is ok. A flower and a stem is ok. Add in two leaves and a blue background? Too much. I am also not too happy with the yellow folded fabric fingers (try saying that fast), but a lot of that is just that I dislike the color yellow!
My thumb was good in concept but I was getting tired when I did it. Meet Chip! Maybe I should have added a bit of a background or something. Oh well, I think he’s cute!
I am not going to list all the polishes that I used here…there were 3 greens, 5 blues, 3 yellows, 6 red/pinks, purple, grey, black, white, gold…right.
Before I top-coated them, the texture (especially on the “dress”) was really cool!
Anyway, I hope you enjoy these! They aren’t my favorite, but I’m ok with them at least.
