Subtle Pink Overlay

Of all the designs I did during my residency interviews, this is probably the most subtle. I figured if I was going to wear a pink that was blatantly glittery, then I needed a design which would not stand out!

I used a pink glittery base that claims to be holographic and almost is, and then stamped over it with a scale pattern using a gradient of light pink to normal pink. I almost wish I had used white and not light pink, this design was almost invisible!

I think this is also the only time I didn’t just cut both my hands back when one nail broke…which is why I have one hand with nice square nails and one hand that is rounded. I dislike rounded nails!!

~ Light pink: OPI – Be There In a Prosecco

This was work-appropriate mani #2, out of maybe 10? I have two interviews left at this point so probably out of 11 total manis. We shall see. I hope these are giving those of you with jobs that require boring nails some ideas! :-p

Glowing from Within

I seldom say this, but I regret buying this polish! A England went on sale at Color4Nails which meant I just had to buy a bunch of them. I only actually wanted one, but I purchased 3 (because of course). Thus far, I was happy with the two I bought…and this was the third, which I bought almost as an afterthought. I wish I hadn’t!

It’s not that this isn’t a pretty color, because it is. Its mostly just that I thought this polish would be red with gold flakes, and it is really an orange metallic with gold flakes. I don’t usually wear orange polish, and I already have an orange metallic! Oh well, now I own another I suppose. And it is a pretty polish, it just isn’t something I’m likely to wear often.

The polish itself is called Gloriana from A England. On the website it is listed as a “chili-pepper red with fine and ultra fine golden sparkle” but I have to disagree. Fundamentally, this is dark orange that leans red, that has a metallic finish and copious golden glass flecks. It covered nicely in two coats, but it is not a red!

I was having a hard time deciding between stamping with gold or black, but everything I saw with either color online was disappointing (I guess not a lot of people use this for nail art), so I ended up covering it with a red-to-black gradient using Siren by Pure Ice, Visions of Love by OPI, and Black Creme by Wet n’ Wild. The stamp is from Bundle Monster plate XL209.

In the end the mani is pretty enough,,,I was just expecting a red polish. In retrospect, I should have known from looking at everyone’s swatches! Oh well :-p at least I got a pretty purple and mossy green!

Purple Fade Out

Nail polish websites NEED to stop putting things on sale! A England went on sale for a few days, and Adina makes some of my favorite polishes, so I just and to grab a bunch! I don’t know what I was thinking, I already have >10 untried polishes sitting around. I am a mess!

When I was looking for which colors I wanted (since I already have 10 or so A England polishes) I ended up buying half the Elizabeth & Mary collection. The two I wanted and this third one, a purple! In retrospect, I should have passed on the orange/red glittery one. That being said, THIS polish is stunning and I am glad it caught my eye!

This is two thin coats of Crown of Thistles, a pretty red-toned purple holo. The sunlight photos are the most color-accurate, the others make the polish look more blue than it really is. Crown of Thistles is a bright magenta-purple with copious scattered holo shimmer and a pink-purple shimmer that almost makes the polish look like a duochrome. I am impressed! Even better, it is basically a one-coater. If I had just been a little more careful, I would not have needed two coats at all.

I ended up applying a gradient stamp over the polish, which worked out better than I expected but doesn’t look great in the photos. I mostly needed something to blend in…I am getting tired of having to think in terms of what I can wear in the hospital! Just a few more months I can put whatever I want on my nails again.

At this point, I also have 9 (!!) Disney-themed manis built up that I’ve been working on over weekends (when I am free to do what I want with my nails). Do you guys want to see them soon, or should I keep going until I can do a whole month of Disney? 😀

Bright Patterns

This was intended to be easter eggs (it went with my explicitely-easter-themed other hand for an easter mani) but i’m posting it separately just because (well, mostly cause they didn’t match that well)!

More or less, this is what happens when I play with stamps. Ta-da! I don’t even know what I ended up thinking about this, but it was entertaining to put together. I hadn’t done gradient stamping in a while.

I am also not going to go hunting for the list of stamps that I used, sorry! I don’t know that it matters (but if you REALLY want to know I can find them).

~ White: Sinful Colors – Snow me White
~ Purple: Nails Inc – Regents Place
~ Teal: L’oreal – Not a Cloud in Sight
~ Pink: Revlon – Bubbly

In other news, I am really glad I bought Regents Place all those months ago…I wasn’t sure I would ever want a periwinkle purple-blue, and I’ve probably used it 5+ times (which is more than I’ve used almost anything that wasn’t black/white/silver/gold). Go figure!

Fashioned Darkly

This is going to be a week of my recent favorite manis (stemming back to around January) to celebrate that I am done with clerkships! For the rest of medical school, I do not have to take any class I don’t want to. I also don’t have to take another multiple choice exam (other than the boards, but oh well) until I graduate. This is amazing. So, pretty nail art!

Today’s post is probably my favorite overall out of my recent works. The design was inspired by @i_annylook, who I just discovered and has some really awesome nail art! I need to go try all of it 🙂

I actually really like the concept behind this too…a gradient and then a gradient stamp using one of the same colors from the underlying gradient, but with the stamp interrupted. I don’t have many stamping designs that I think would work well for this, but I’m going to have to go find some!

~ Red: Pure Ice – Siren
~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black
~ Gold: Essie – Good as Gold
~ Matte: KBShimmer – Oh Matte!
~ Stamp: JQ – L20

Also, matting things just makes them better. I think I’d matte approximately 50% of everything I do…except that the design doesn’t last as long with matte top coat! Especially on surgical things where we are required to wash our hands with really harsh chemicals before doing anything. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed! Stay tuned for more awesome stuff this week 😀

Zig Up Zag Down

I realized that I had three different zig-zag patterns, of all of which were slightly different. I wanted to use them all in one mani! Ergo, pattern mani 🙂

Long ago, I decided that grey pairs well with pink, and I have stuck with that decision. This mani looks a bit odd as a result (a slightly darker grey…aka black…would probably have looked better) but so be it! Also, I don’t actually own a true black holo.

Regardless, zig zags! So many of them. I think I like the fine ones better than the thick ones, but they all look cool.

~ Grey holo: Darling Diva – Black Diamond
~ Light pink: ULTA – Baby Doll
~ Pink: Sinful Colors – Pink Forever
~ Dark pink: Zoya – Ciara
~ Stamps: BM – 201, BP – X06

Simple, but I hope you enjoyed!

Colorless Teal Ideas

I don’t know why, but for some reason Noam Chomsky’s “colorless green ideas sleep furiously” got stuck in my head while I was trying to think of a name for these, so here you go!

This level of stamping is NOT for the faint of heart. Oy. It didn’t take that long since it was only a single stamp transfer…but to get all the colors exactly where I wanted them (on specific triangles or not) took longer than stamping usually does! And the direction of wiping off the polish became strangely important.

This was another to match a dress I wore to a wedding months ago, that I just never posted and it fit with Green Day! I wore the dress a lot. Mostly because my normal dress for weddings I wore probably 6 times in the last two years and I was getting tired of teal/coral nails. I think I overdid it!

~ White: Sinful Colors – Snow me White
~ Light green: Essie – The More The Merrier
~ Light teal: Wet n’ Wild – I Need a Refresh-Mint
~ Dark teal: Salon Perfect – Escape to Neverland
~ Blue: OPI – Into the Night
~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black
~ Stamp: Bundle Monster – 205

Hope you enjoyed! Tomorrows blue nails might be my some of my favorites of ever so be prepared 😀
