Mind the Grey Gaps

Happy New Years! This was not intended as a New Years mani since I wore it early in December, but it is sufficiently glittery, and all that I really have on deck at the moment so here we are!

The design was, yet again, inspired by Sveta Sanders. I should have just gone with the naked nail base, but I thought the purple and grey would go well together! I regret that decision, as it made the whole design look much darker than intended. Also, I should probably have done this mani with longer nails! And I was trying to decide between ALL of my multichromes for this mani…and ended up going with a holographic multichrome.

I feel like I should probably let you all know that I will not be responding to comments or anything for a little over a week, as I am on a cruise boat somewhere in the Caribbean! Given how cold the east coast is right now, this whole beachy summer boat thing is pretty darn awesome, or so I assume 🙂

~ Grey: Zoya – Dove
~ Purple holo multichrome: Emily de Molly – State of Mind

The one biggest triumph here though is the design on my pointer: I need you all to know that I used striping tape to make that triangle base. And a little bit of creative polishing. I do not own those cool triangle stencils that everyone else seems to have! Anyway, happy New Years and I hope you guys all had fun last night!

Shifting Silver Cracks

Another new polish! This one is super shifty and cool :-). I could hardly bear to cover it, so I did a truly minimal design!

What you see here is two thin coats of State of Mind by Emily de Molly. When I first saw this polish online I knew I had to have it…precisely because I had absolutely no idea what the actual color of the polish was! It looked very different in various photos, but all of them looked awesome. As it turns out, the polish is a multichrome that shifts from a dusty pink, through copper, and to olive green. It is a deeper color than most that I own. On top of that, it has a bright pink-fuschia shimmer, as well as copper multichrome shards (you can see them in indirect light). It ALSO has an intense linear holo finish that glows bright purple (I don’t know how Hayley made the holo a different color than the polish, but its magical). Basically, this polish is confusing and super pretty.

The design, such as it is, was inspired by MarnieLP but I might have to try this again with better tape placement now that I know how the spacing goes. I love the idea! Maybe the next crazy weird polish I get 😀

~ Silver: Nails Inc – South Kensington

I wish my camera was better at capturing purples…the polish is a bit brighter and quite a bit more pink-toned than it looks under indirect light in my photos. I tried to color correct, but my fingers looked like zombies so I left it this way.

Hope you enjoyed!

I Olive Gold

This was a simple but quite fun mani to put together! I forgot how much I like skittlettes 🙂

The art was inspired by @gabbysnailart, and I like how close I came! I do need to admit that I used a stamp for the heart and then colored it in before putting it on my nail…I still cannot paint hearts to save my life!

The golden polish is new, the gold sister to that crazy holographic silver I used during the 31 Day Challenge. This one is called Million Dollar Dream by F.U.N. Lacquer, and it is awesome! Still a pain in the butt to remove, but it looks so darn pretty on that I am willing to overlook that. This is three coats of Million Dollar Dream. It looks super patchy on the first coat but builds really nicely. I used it as a dabbed on gradient on my thumb, although I don’t like how that nail turned out overall, this polish does gradient nicely as well.

I this is the last “Fall” themed mani for while, since I have a bit of a back-log of nail art to post that is not in colors of red-orange-green-gold!

Hope you enjoyed!

Crossing Teal

I both love and hate this manicure. I love how the colors came together, and I really do like the pattern on my accent nail. But I hate the shimmery teal!

So, this is a polish I got as a gift from a friend of mine. It is called Jade Kat, by Sinful Colors. I can see why she bought it for me, it is the type of color I tend to love: jewel toned, bright, and shimmery. Also, teal! But the polish itself is a mess. This is four thin coats (I maybe could have done three but…). I let the first two dry for over an hour (as I ate dinner and played far too many rounds of Mariokart) and the polish wasn’t dry yet! I dinged it trying to cut the striping tape apart.

Then I added two more coats, only to realize that sometime during the whole process I had developed bubbles. Tens of tiny bubbles all over my nails. Now, I’ve been painting my nails long enough to know how to avoid bubbles unless I am in a rush (or my top coat is a thickened mess) but neither was true in this case. It just bubbled at random! As a result, I really cannot recommend this polish, even if the metallic/shimmer finish is nice.

The design came from @mypolishworld. I actually like the colors and layout better than what she did, but I wouldn’t have though of a gold nail without the reference photo!

~ Gold: ILNP – Fame
~ Light teal: Maybelline – Green with Envy
~ Teal: Emily de Molly – Glee Ridden
~ Teal shimmer: Sinful Colors – Jade Kat

That’s all for today! Maybe I’ll try this again sometime with polish that doesn’t make me want to immediately change my mani :-/

Neon Peaking Through

The problem with the prompt for Day 12, stripes, is that although I use a lot of striping tape, I seldom make stripes! I figured that criss-crosses were ok too :-p

This nail art was inspired by melyne nail art. Melyne used nail vinyl’s rather than striping tape, which both made her application easier and provided her with thicker stripes! Some day I need to invest in nail vinyls :-p although I do also like the way mine came out.

I think this is arguably the fourth day in the row with neon polishes. I don’t generally use neons that much, but I guess I was hit with the summer neon bug! To me this is funny because last summer and the year before every brand released a lot of neon polishes, which I did not see happen this year. So of course I’ve jumped on the bandwagon years late :-p

~ Neon orange: Julep – Natasha
~ Silver holo: Color Club – Harp On It
~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black
~ Black holo: Zoya – Storm

No more neon tomorrow! I guess I could have tried for neon animal print, but I doubt I would have liked the result :-p

Pointed Purple Fade

Unlike every other day this week, where I’ve used other colors besides the assigned prompt color, today is just for purple. All the purple. Happy Day 6!

This might look a bit familiar, as I’ve done this exact design previously in blue but I wanted to do it again! I initially wanted to do it in green (or RAINBOW) but I settled on purple so I could wear it in the clinic.

The original design was done by Mary Monkett, since she is the master of combining gradients with very precise striping tape.

~ Light purple: Sally Hansen – Lacey Lilac
~ Purple: Zoya – Malia
~ Dark purple: Sephora X – Ignition

That’s all for today! I go back to cheating again tomorrow (aka using more than the assigned color). So, enjoy!

Overlaying Geometry

This is not the first time I’ve tried this design, but it IS the first time I’ve liked the outcome! Given how big geometric patterns are right now, I figured it was worth re-trying this to try and get it right 🙂

The design was inspired by lacquer liefde, which was just such a cool idea! Minimalist yet colorful.

I am, however, still missing a good pastel grey. My old one finally ran out, and I cannot find a replacement! This is my current lightest grey, and it is really more of a medium. This would look better with a true light grey.

~ Grey: Zoya – Dove
~ Black: Wet n’ Wild – Black Creme
~ Gold: Sally Hansen – Go for Gold

And in other news, the 31 Day Challenge starts in one week! In the past, it has been run by Sarah from Chalkboard Nails, but she is stepping aside this year in favor of one of my favorite nail art bloggers, Cathy from More Nail Polish! I’m going to do my best to participate (this will be my 5th year), and this will unfortunately likely be my last year. I really cannot foresee having time during residency to paint this many nails!

Anyway, head over to More Nail Polish for more details, and feel free to join in! I’ve obviously posted the list of prompts above, but Cathy has a whole bunch more colors and design options if you want to paint along and post the banner to your own page.
