I Love Rainbow Nail Polish

I wanted to title this “ILNP Rainbow” but I figured that those unfamiliar with the brand would be hopelessly confused. Anyway, I made a rainbow out of some of my ILNP collection! Mostly because I couldn’t come up with anything else super fun to do with the teal that I swatched today and I am tired of stamping everything.

IMG_1818-1

The base color here is, as you might have guessed, a new ILNP polish. This is three thin coats of Party Favor, a vibrant teal blue metallic with silver holo shards and a teal flash. Like all ILNP polishes, this was very easy to control and self-leveled nicely. It also didn’t stain with removal!

When trying to decide which ILNP polishes to use in the pseudo-rainbow, I basically just grabbed the Holiday collection. The dark green is the only exception, and this is also why there is no red! Hilariously, despite being a holiday collection, there was no green and no red. So, I grabbed an older green that I love! It is a tad dark for the rest of the colors, but oh well :-p

A friend of mine pointed out that I had done an almost identical design to this, with the same basic colors, a while ago. I am honestly super impressed that she remembered since I had forgotten! But yah, this is a much darker and vampier version of Ocean Swirl from 2014! Although Ocean Swirl was pre-planned and this was not so the 2014 version is unsurprisingly prettier. Oops.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed! I figured dark and brooding blues was fitting for this freezing weather…I don’t know what is going on, but it was in the 80’s outside on Saturday but by Saturday night and certainly on Sunday it was in the low 40’s! Yikes.

Strands and Bubbles

This is a pretty simple mani, but I am still quite proud of it! I am pleased, not because it is in and of itself impressive, but because I painted it while on my honeymoon!

IMG_9402

I needed something quick, easy, and somewhat tropical. I thought these looked like bubbles, so I went with it! I also had only really brought teal and blue polishes with me, so I had a rather limited set of options :-p

IMG_9400

All said and done I think I painted my nails twice while on my honeymoon? The other design is even simpler! But never let it be said that my nails chip.

That’s all for today! I just felt like I should throw in some non-stamped manis every now and then. I’ve been so busy recently that I feel like all I have time for is stamps, and gradients under them if I’m lucky!

Magnetic Teal Flowers

Readers, I am sorry about this. I tried so hard to make it pretty for you, and I only partly succeeded! But it wasn’t my fault…

IMG_5849

So, I received two magnets (to go with magnetic polish) from the Born Pretty Store to review, and this is the second. It is N03, a star pattern. I have seen other people try and use star patterns online, and usually it doesn’t work well. I was hopefully with this one. When I tested it on my mat it worked well, but I forgot about the curvature of my nails! Ugh. Suffice to say the center of this magnet is useless (as it appears all star magnets are) and the side that works best is still iffy. Compared to the diagonal lines magnet (which I showed almost a month ago), this one is far less useful.

IMG_5804

I ended up decided to stamp a floral star pattern over the magnetic art, centering the flower over the “center” of the star. The only finger that REALLY picked up the magnet (aka the one where I have the flattest nail bed) was my middle finger, and there the stamp looks great. Otherwise? Meh.

I did end up loving the N02 magnet, so I can happily recommend picking it up! However, I have yet to see a star magnet that works, and this one is no exception. The magnets can be found here. Enjoy!

Trailing Flowers

YOU GUYS. This polish is amazing. And I quite like the design I ended up with as well! I am drooling over my own photos. This is rare.

The polish here is called Grey Opal by Polished for Days. It is yet another excellent example of why everyone should join the Polish Pickup Pack! Grey Opal covered perfectly in two thin coats, and control of the polish was excellent. Honestly, I have been painting my nails for years and even so I almost always need to clean around my cuticles with acetone after I am done applying my base color. With this polish, I had no need…it went exactly and ONLY where I wanted it to go! I am impressed.

IMG_5943

The polish has a grey jelly base with lots of silver shards, coral shifting flakies, and teal shifting flakies. It is very fun to look at, between the orange and the teal and the glitter! It somehow manages to be both fun and elegant. I loved this polish so much I ended up checking out the Polished for Days store and OMG it is amazing. I want most of it (many of the polishes seem to have as much depth to them as this one, which is just incredible) and I officially have a new indie polish crush for jelly/flakie/shard combos!

IMG_8658

Anyway, I ended up making floral stamping decals using a coral polish that more or less matched the pink-orange shade of the flakies, and just going with it. I did paint in some green leaves, but they barely ever made it onto the nail (they were all off the edge, oops)! I want to say this is fitting because yesterday was the first day of spring…but it is 32 degrees out and snowing!

Hope you enjoyed! And seriously, if you are as addicted to polish as I am (which if you are reading this, I assume you are) go check out the Polish Pickup Pack. And thank me later 😀

Tropical Fronds

I am in Hawaii right now! Or, at least I should be. I am very excited. I was waiting to post these nails (which I painted back in December in honor of my cruise to the Caribbean) until the start of my next tropical vacation because I am a dork.

IMG_4740

The design here was inspired by clairestelle8 and I honestly think I did a pretty decent job replicating her design! Unfortunately, the base gradient which looked really vibrant on my nails did not translate well in the photos. It isn’t pastel!

IMG_4730

IMG_8331

For the design itself, I had to hand-stamp each leaf, since I didn’t have a plate with thick enough frond leaves to work. Surprisingly, it didn’t take too long! Also, I didn’t like the idea of using a white border for flowers, so I used the darker of the blues instead, and I wish there was a tiny bit more delineation between the flower and the surroundings.

That’s all for today! Sorry preemptively for not responding to any comments for the next two weeks, meanwhile I hope you guys enjoy the posts I have lined up!

Icy Swirls

Continuing with the theme of subtle, snowy, and swirled, we have this post! By this point in the interview season I was giving up on the very bland manis that I sported in the beginning, and was firmly in the realm of mints and golds and a bit more contrast.

IMG_4156

That said, I still deemed this subtle enough to wear! It is another of my favorites, and it helped that during this particular interview it definitely snowed! It is always fun when my nail art predicts the weather :-p

IMG_4210

I do need to get some more snowflake stamps, on the off chance that I have time to do nail art next winter (this whole residency thing is becoming far more real, I need to put together my actual list and cross my fingers!), since most of the plates I have don’t stamp well!

Happy Friday! One more week of interview-friendly posts before I jump feet first back into colorful posts!

Darkened Desert

This mani isn’t quite winter-themed, but I think the dark colors work regardless. Also, I really couldn’t think of what to call this mani but the colors remind me of the Southwest so desert it is!

IMG_8123

What you see here are two coats of O R’YLEH (which, how do I correctly uncapitolize? O R’yleh? O R’Yleh?) by Great Lakes Lacquer. This polish really could have been opaque in one coat but I didn’t know that, so my application was uneven. That said, the polish is a bit thicker than I expected and you need to work fast or it will dry and drag.

IMG_3595

The polish itself is beautiful, with a dark green base with lots of holo shimmer. It also has a multichrome shimmer to it that shifts from bright fuchsia pink through copper and to gold. It’s a chameleon! Unfortunately, it was also a Polish Pickup Pack October exclusive, so as far as I know there is no way to buy it. But if you like the concept, think about joining the PPP before this month’s offers are gone too!

IMG_3649

I don’t know exactly how I ended up with this color scheme, but it doesn’t look half bad. I wouldn’t typically mix orange, teal, and yellow (ewwww yellow) with something like a deep green. Or a rose gold!

IMG_8120

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed, and happy almost New Years! I don’t plan at this moment to have a special New Years post, but maybe I can find something I haven’t had time to post that I sufficiently glittery. If not, I’ll just kick off my “top 10 of 2017” posts with regards to my favorite polishes and nail art.
