It’s a Sunday! That means I don’t have to show you nail art today. I have a different type of art…actual painting! While I prefer tiny canvases (aka nails) I do occasionally (…once a year) do real art. On my anniversary. With my boyfriend. This year, our theme was Miyazaki!
I went ahead and painted Haku, the river spirit dragon from Spirited Away. I have to say, I am pretty darn proud of myself! I don’t usually paint large things, and when I do they tend to be abstract.
The boyfriend picked a simpler but more recognizable set of characters…Totoro and the Cat Bus from My Neighbor Totoro! I had to help him touch up some of the lines, but he did a REALLY good job! And for the first time, did not get super-crazy-frustrated midway through painting and threaten to stop :-p
Hope you enjoyed! Tomorrow it’s back to nail art 🙂
I love anime, but only some anime. My favorite anime artist is Hayao Miyazaki. He has made many movies, including my favorites (Howl’s Moving Castle and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind are my top two). Unfortunately, I have no idea how to do Howl or Nausicaa nail art, but I do know how to do My Neighbor Totoro nails! So, I have placed some of the major spirits from Totoro on my nails.
On my pinky are the dust spirits, ring finger has the big totoro, middle finger has the baby totoro, pointer has the middle totoro, and my thumb has the scary cat-bus! If you have never seen the movie this makes no sense, but it is an adorable movie and I recommend it!
So yes, I am a nerdy in more than one dimension. Anyway. The base for these nails was Sinful Colors – Mint Apple, which was just a dream to apply. All details were done with a thin nail art brush or an unbent hairpin.
