Purple Tilting Gold

This is one of my recent favorites! I was going to throw it into a “favorites” week (I have a few on back log) but I ran out of manis on my computer and I needed a last minute edit so here we go!

The design is actually very simple, but the polishes are anything but! A purple multichrome gradient with a gold multichrome, a deep triangle of gold glitter, and then stamping on a black triangle. The black triangle initially looked matte (as most stamped designs do) and I ended up LOVING how that looked so I re-matted the triangle at the end. I tried it completely glossy and it just didn’t have the same pop!

The base color here is yet another new holiday polish that I received from Nail Polish Canada. This one is called Tilted, by ILNP. What you see here are two thin coats of the polish, which shifts from indigo to purple to burgundy to red-gold to green. I posted a photo taken in my living room (hence the really funny lighting!) since I went downstairs to play some mariokart with a friend and the shift was super crazy strong! Under direct light its mostly an indigo and purple with hints of burgundy.

I have a slight problem…I definitely already own too many multichromes and in particular too many that start with purple. I think I might have to part with either this or one of my other three because this many is nuts! Or, I can make the shiftiest dragon egg every, but I would feel quite foolish wasting such a pretty color with polish that doesn’t make your nails fall off :-p

I am a bit surprised at how hard it is to gradient with multichromes. Genius in the Bottle did NOT want to go on in any meaningful way! It is usually a gold-copper-green shifter and all you really see here is the gold. Still cool, but not quite what I was going for.

Hope you enjoyed! I am returning today, so I hope I can throw together a new post by Friday. If not, just know that it is Match day for residency and I might instead be out partying (or hiding away if I don’t get one of my top 5 choices).

Lit Up Neon

COLOR. Oh my gosh you guys I AM SO EXCITED. I wore these when I went to San Francisco for my first vacation after hospital time! Also for my birthday :-p

I was trying to recreate a gradient from ilaeti but I think I need more blue! I love how the colors came out though, so I imagine I will be trying again…and this time showing a gradient-only photo, it was so pretty! Don’t get me wrong, I like the stamping, but that gradient.

I wish my nails were longer, the hint of neon green you can see at the tip of my thumb made me happy.

That’s all! More colors and fun designs next week. I am so happy I had a least a month to wear whatever I wanted on my nails! Residency is going to be painful if I need to keep my nails ‘tame’. Although I have a sneaking suspicion that I won’t have time for nail art, just color and a stamp if I’m lucky. I don’t know whats going to happen to the blog next year. Yikes…

Berry Twisted Triangles

I don’t even know why I named it this. In my defense, this was done around Halloween! But I think it also looks winter-y so it is going here, with my beginning of winter manis week.

The base polish is three coats of Dark & Twisty by KBShimmer which I got at their sale back in October. It is a black jelly (hence three coats) with copious tiny metallic glitters in rainbow colors. It is like the younger sister to Strung Out, one of their holiday releases from a few years ago. That being said, it went on much easier and was far easier to remove! I love glitter bombs with giant glitter like Strung Out…but I never wear them because taking them off makes me cry. Dark & Twisty is glittery while being slightly subtle and was totally easier to get off!

Also, I feel like the smaller glitters are easier to pick out in the black jelly base…they don’t sink under the black color as much.

I need to wear Berry Good Looking again soon. It kills me with its glitter!

Colorless Teal Ideas

I don’t know why, but for some reason Noam Chomsky’s “colorless green ideas sleep furiously” got stuck in my head while I was trying to think of a name for these, so here you go!

This level of stamping is NOT for the faint of heart. Oy. It didn’t take that long since it was only a single stamp transfer…but to get all the colors exactly where I wanted them (on specific triangles or not) took longer than stamping usually does! And the direction of wiping off the polish became strangely important.

This was another to match a dress I wore to a wedding months ago, that I just never posted and it fit with Green Day! I wore the dress a lot. Mostly because my normal dress for weddings I wore probably 6 times in the last two years and I was getting tired of teal/coral nails. I think I overdid it!

Hope you enjoyed! Tomorrows blue nails might be my some of my favorites of ever so be prepared 😀

Sharp Drop

I wanted to do something simple with striping tape (I missed striping tape) so I went to my pinterest ideas and picked a striping based one that looked like it could be completed easily!

As such, this is inspired by a random unmarked pinterest pin, oops! I like that I added the stud at the bottom, but I think the original designer’s colors may have worked better. Especially her super glittery polish. I don’t really have anything like that!

Ah, pinterest, source of fantastic nail art ideas 🙂

Hope you enjoyed! I’ll be back next week with some more stuff. Not sure what theme next week will have just yet, we’ll see!

So, this polish has an interesting origin story. At my bridal shower (thrown by my sister and my mother) the party favors were nail polish! Totally a good call on their parts. Unfortunately, my sister lost the color battle so they were all shades of pink and red, but luckily won the brand battle so they got essie (and not sinful colors or wet n’ wild)! The polish I am wearing here was the one I snagged from the few leftovers, so I am wearing my own bridal shower polish!

The polish itself is called Eternal Optimist, and is a slightly greyed medium light pink. 100% work appropriate but a bit more interesting than a candy pink, at least to me! Eternal Optimist covered nicely in two coats, and was beautifully glossy and self-leveling. Basically, it had a typical formula for essie creme polishes.

I then went and added triangles with white polish, and threw on some bits and pieces of water decals I had sitting around! I always save my leftover water decal pieces, since I always have left over from full-nail designs. This ended up pretty cool, although it was a hassle trying to find the right sized triangle to match the white patch on my nails! I maybe should have measured (at least by eye) before I painted the white polish on.

The design was finished with striping tape and top coat. The striping tape was really a necessity since the water decals were not perfect fits for the white patches. Whoops!

Hope you enjoyed! Next week is chrome polish week. Since I have so many posts lined up, I am making themed weeks! Although some of the themes are things like “short nails” and “nerdy”. I haven’t picked out an order to post them it yet!

Wrinkled Wrapping Paper

IMG_4666I was sent some “nail wraps” to review from Lady Queen Beauty. When I saw these online and picked them out, I thought they were full-nail water decals (like I’ve gotten before from Lady Queen and been very pleased with). However, when they arrived I realized I was wrong.

The package on these says they have a silver back and are made of nail polish. It says they are thin, and should be applied like stickers and then filed off at the tips. The package lies. These things are AWFUL.

The design is actually really nice, I like triangles. The background is a frosted clear with scattered holo glitter. So far, so good. Only…whoever made them never intended them for nails. They are THICK. They do not BEND. And they do not stick. They are basically a thick plastic design stuck to double sided sticky tape. You get ONE placement with these…before the tape sticks to your nail and not the plastic design. On my pinky, I tried to reposition the stickers (I messed up the first time) and the whole sticky part stuck to my nail, leaving behind a flimsy yet thick plastic design! So I stuck it on with top coat as though it were a stamping decal. Only it still won’t lie flat.

For my ring and middle finger I knew I had one shot, and it worked ok. My nails are not particularly curvy, and even so the decal flares off the nail in the middle on both sides. *sigh*. My pointer was terrible. I tried to do the same thing as I did with the other two, and the sticker CRACKED. Don’t ask me how. But it was already half stuck so I tried to turn it into a stamping decal type thing and it ripped MORE and I couldn’t remove it…anyway, it was bad. My thumb went fine.

The indoor photos are with one coat of top coat, outdoor has one thin and one THICK, just to stop the stickers from lifting off my nails completely! Moral of the story, don’t buy these (they are $1.99 on sale right now, but still). I’ll add the link so you know to stay AWAY (and if you want to buy something else, like water decals, use my 15% off code BPLC15). Hope your nails look better than mine!!
