Summer time! Well, sort of. In St Louis it went from 99 degrees and sunny to 75 and raining. I prefer the colder and rainier, but it makes this less fitting! Anyway, I really like the mani 🙂
The design was inspired by the ever-awesome Copycat Claws (and yes I saw this posted a year ago and have been waiting to do my own version since then)! Unfortunately the shell and starfish charms that I own are SIGNIFICANTLY smaller than I expected, and than were required for this mani. So I improvised.
I started with a teal creme polish, and topped it with a darker teal jelly. Once that was dry, I stamped using white polish. I then topped the white stamp with two coats of the same teal jelly polish. On the nails with sand and water, I blobbed the teal jelly in a haphazard pattern somewhat overlapping the textured glitter to make it look like sand underwater. I then then added white surf by hand using part of an (unused) kitchen sponge. Since my textured polish is pretty simple, over the textured glitter I dabbed on some gold holo glitters for a more interesting base.
Unfortunately, the ocean charms I have are rather small! I ended up sponging on some white polish so they would stand out against the gold base, since the charms and the textured polish were almost exactly the same color! Yikes. Even sadder, the pearl charms I have are much larger than, say, the starfish and clamshell charms, so I grabbed some cute pink rhinestones instead and am going to pretend they are sea glass 😀

Anyway, that’s all for today! I hope you enjoyed 🙂 Stay tuned for some more pretty nail art this week!
I painted my nails blue…and then got stuck. What to do with blue nails? There were SO MANY OPTIONS. So, I turned to one of the queens of nail art, and tried to loosely duplicate a mani 😀
I started off trying to re-create the sea turtle mani by yagala, but got sidetracked. I used stamps instead of free handing…and then decided that if I was going to be wearing gloves over this mani (which I will be, yay for lab work!), that I should probably steer clear of lots of 3D bits. So I added a glittery topper. And then some silver. And I kinda just had fun with it!
The base color is Over the Moon by Color Club, one of the famed halo hues polishes. I bought it to replace Nfu Oh 065, which has dried to an unusable glop despite being over half full. I have to say though, I am not disappointed in Over the Moon! I used two thin coats here, but I probably could have gotten away with one. The polish is ever so slightly thick, but not hard to work with. And it is holo-y as ANYTHING. Oh my god.
I need to convince myself not to go hunting for the rest of the halo hues polishes…so far I only own this blue one and the silver (Harp On It). And they are both amazing! Gah.

Hope you enjoyed the jaunt under the sea! Even if my poor turtle is a tiny bit disproportionate. Whoops!
Day 2 of chrome/metallic week is blue shimmery metallic with lots of things on top!
This started with two coats of a teal metallic shimmery glittery polish that I haven’t used in way too long (it has a small bottle, so I’m always worried I’m going to run out!). I then stamped with a blue polish over that in a swirly pattern, to try and simulate underwater ripples.
I went and added a less-dense swirly white pattern on top of the swirly blue pattern, and then decided to go NUTS with the 3D additions. I had just come off my 2 weeks on Medicine when I did this, and I was dying to get some forbidden color and rhinestones onto my nails! This is the best anti-hospital mani ever. It might also be one of the most bits of 3D-ness I’ve put on my nails ever. Certainly this year!

Hope you enjoyed! Friday’s post is EVEN MORE chrome-y goodness!
This nail art is…odd. It looks almost like what I had in mind, but not quite!
I started with a sideways green gradient, just for fun. Unfortunately, my darker greens didn’t want to transfer that well, so the gradient is subtle!
When that was dry, I added a stamp from plate JQ L20, which was sent to me from Lady Queen Beauty. The stamps on this plate are cool and vaguely tribal? I put this on on the side of my nail, and it looks like an odd seashell or loopy seaweed!
~ Light green: Zoya – Tiana
~ Green: Salon Perfect – Escape to Neverland
~ Dark green: Sinful Colors – Last Chance
~ Stamp: JQ – L20
If you want to pick up the stamping plate for yourself, head over to the Lady Queen Beauty shop! It’s $5.32. Don’t forget about my 15% off code, BPLC15! Hope you enjoyed!
I had rather forgotten that I had a plate to review from Lady Queen Beauty! I had used it once briefly…but it got buried under some Emily de Molly stamping plates that just arrived! Ah, the trials and tribulations of a tiny plate versus a larger one :-p
Anyway, I went to town with this! I had been waiting to order a blue/teal jelly polish (and I finally did…) but it didn’t seem fair to make the plate wait for the polish to arrive! So, I just tried to put together a jelly-sandwich-type mani using regular polish. The result came out alright I think!
~ Teal holo: LA Girl – Teal Dimension
~ Teal stamp: Mentality – Turquoise Opaque
~ Silver stamp: Mentality – White Opaque
~ Stamp: hehe – 012
This plate is fun because it has a whole bunch of fun under the sea patterns! Lots of types of seaweed, lots of fish, some shell too! I had also forgotten that I owned Teal Dimension. It’s such a pretty teal holo glitter! Silly Eva, look through your collection more frequently!
If you want to pick up hehe plate 012 with all the fish and plants, you can find it at Lady Queen Beauty for $2.99 (plus 15% off with the code BPLC15. Enjoy!
Double stamps! And still blue, so it somewhat counts for this weeks theme. I really just wanted to play around with some new stamping plates I was sent to review from Lady Queen Beauty 🙂
I started off with a blue metallic base (you guys are going to see a LOT of metallics in the next few weeks…I’ve been back on a shimmery kick!). Once that was dry, I applied three colors of blue to the stamp and swiped my scraper to make them form a gradient, which was applied to my nails. I ended up adding an orange starfish too, just for fun!
~ Blue metallic: Zoya – Estelle
~ White: Sinful Colors – Snow Me White
~ Blue: Zoya – Yummy
~ Dark blue: Zoya – Sia
~ Stamps: hehe – 012, 024
The second plate (with the starfish, 012) has a whole bunch of sea-themed stamping patterns…I can’t wait to make an underwater jelly aquarium mani! Only…I don’t actually have a blue jelly. So I might have to make one. *crosses fingers*
Plate 024 also has a really cool pattern that looks like a mix between a space warp and fireworks that I just know I’ll be using for New Years! Anyway, if you want to pick up either of these plates, head over to Lady Queen Beauty. They are both $2.99, but you get 15% off with my discount code BPLC15. Enjoy!
These nails are almost a month old, but I didn’t think they would fit any prompt other than “under the sea,” so here we go!
I think they look like strange underwater seaweed, but that could just be me. I was going for orange vines with berries. I started off with the polish glossy, but changed it to matte at the last minute, so all the sunlight photos have a matte finish.
I still don’t really like frosty finish polishes, but Lost in Paradise isn’t half bad. I had actually forgotten I owned it until I was trying to color match a teal polish with my shoes!
~ Teal: p2 – Lost in Paradise
~ Light orange: Maybelline – Bleached in Peach
~ Orange: Zoya – Thandie
~ Light teal: Maybelline – Green with Envy
Hope you enjoyed this rather strange mani!
This post fill many requirements. It is my “nautical” post for the OMD2 Challenge, my “summer nail art” entry for the Nail Polish Canada summer contest (which you guys should TOTALLY GO VOTE FOR) and the tutorial for it will (hopefully) be published at Nail It! Magazine in the next week or so…once I write it up.
The interesting part of this mani is that it is a duplicate of one I did almost exactly a year ago. Only this time, I have longer nails. And slightly more time. That being said, I still love fish. And seahorses. And just summer underwater stuff in general. So if I had to re-do one mani, I think this wasn’t a bad one to choose!

Today’s theme for the OMD2 challenge was “jelly,” so I have decided that it is time for another jelly sandwich pattern! One of the only jellies (or almost jellies) that I have is a green glitter, so I settled on a seaweed pattern.
This was made by painting white squiggly lines over a green base, and topping each of two layers of squiggles with my green jelly polish. Unfortunately, you can’t quite see the depth.
- Green (base): Sinful Colors – Exotic Green
- Green (jelly glitter): Sephora by OPI – Apple Scented
- White: KISS Nail Art – White Striper
I hope you enjoyed! I need to remember to bring out my jellies more often!
I love blue. I have not been particularly tempted buy any further blue textured polishes (I already owned one), just because none of them spoke to me. I picked up Sleigh Ride on a whim, and I am really glad I did.
This polish is possibly my favorite textured polish, bar none. It is a beautiful vibrant true blue, with silver and light blue glitter. It is textured but does not catch on anything, and took only one coat to be opaque. I added two coats, and the color deepened a bit. It dried remarkably fast, and I cannot stop staring at my nails. This is the perfect blue.
I wanted to add snowflakes for my art, but seeing as how it is still 70 degrees out, I figured ’tis not the season yet. Instead, I opted for water! The blue and glitter reminded me of sunlight passing through the surface of water, so I decided to do a shallow ocean design.
So, here we have bubbles and a wave on my accent nail and thumb. I added some accents in another Julie G textured polish, and you can see that it looks almost grey/silver next to Sleigh Ride! Crazy.
- Blue textured: Julie G – Sleigh Ride
- Light blue textured: Julie G – Blueberry Fizz
- Blue: Zoya – Yummy
- Light blue: Sally Hansen – Breezy Blue
- White: Sinful Colors – Snow me White
This mani is so much fun! And this polish is incredible. If you want Sleigh Ride and the rest of the collection, head to Jesse’s Girl right now for a pre-sale of the whole set! Julie G textured polishes can be found at Rite Aid for $4.
This is one complicated manicure. My friend and her fiancé came to visit (at the beach) and he requested something spectacular: a different sea creature on each nail, with the nails painted in an ombre from pale blue to deep blue to match the depth at which that creature would be found. He wanted me to try and do each to scale but that’s where I drew the line. I did tell him that this would take hours, so he offered to do one of the hands! I did the ombre (7 different nail polishes, no I don’t remember which ones I used), and then when that was dry we got to work on the sea life.
My friend’s right hand, the deep-sea hand was painted entirely by me. From the middle of the ocean (thumb) to the deepest part (pinky) we have a marlin, a dolphin, jellyfish (that glow in the dark), a squid (also glows), and an angler fish (obviously glows). I’m actually really proud of the thumb, I somehow pulled off blue-on-blue! Maybe. Please forgive the bubbles, that was the base coat and this photo is shown before topcoat.
Her other hand was done by her fiancé! It took me about an hour to do the right hand…it took him almost 2.5 hours to do the left! However, I must say, I was very impressed with the result, given that he has never painted nails before!
He did the shallow-water animals, from pinky (shallow) to middle water (thumb): coral reef with clownfish, seaweed with otter, crab battling an octopus, and a sea turtle. I am particularly impressed with the battle, but it was very 3D and did not take kindly to topcoat!
Our finished creations: the deep water
And the shallow water.
What do you guys think? Suitably impressive? Sorry about the lots-of-nails-that-aren’t-mine thing, I did a lot of other people’s nails recently and they all seem to want to show up on my blog! I have one last other-nail post this week, then its back to my nails for a while 😀
As part of the Rite Aid Nail Art Extravaganza, we had to make a nail art design using ONLY the polish supplied to us in the Kit I displayed yesterday. I put together four looks (although two of them were based off each other so really only three). Today I am going to show you the runner-up, and tomorrow I’ll show you what I submitted and ask you to vote for me!
This is my take on marine life. I asked the boyfriend what I should paint to “show off my skills” and he goes “anything fine and detailed. You’re best at that. Also, lots of colors”. So, ta-da! We have an angelfish, normal fish, a starfish, a jellyfish, and a seahorse.
The base for this is a beautiful blue gradient. I FINALLY own a makeup sponge, so I was able to make the gradient all smooth and pretty. I put together a tutorial (translation: I took a picture each step along the way as I made this) if you guys want me to put it together and post it let me know.
I didn’t do a mermaid at all, both because they didn’t give us a nude color (so she would be oddly colored) and because we were not allowed to use “known characters”…so no Ariel!

A lot of people like this (I had friends vote on facebook), but I figured that given our color palette, I didn’t think it would be unique! The colors just scream “sea” to me. I wanted something special. So, stay tuned for tomorrow!
