Tribal Memories

Another swatch post today, with some fun (but simple) stamps!

IMG_4417

The base here is my first ever Cadillacquer polish, and I have to say I really like the color! This is three coats of Memory Palace it does not have the densest pigment (hence needing 3 coats) but it went on like a dream and dried at a normal speed. However, the bottle brush was a bit too wide and took some maneuvering to not flood my cuticles.

IMG_4352

Memory Palace is a pale blue-grey with golden flakes and subtle holo shimmer. I need to do a comparison between this and Timeless Vow from ILNP, since both are blue-grey with holo (although just from the bottles, Memory Palace is  much paler, almost a white-grey-blue than Timesless Vow, and Timeless Vow has more holo).

IMG_4379

I’m not going to lie and say I don’t love this polish for its name…although I thought it was inspired by Sherlock and it turns out the actual inspiration was Hannibal, whoops!

That’s all for today! Hope you enjoyed 🙂

Swamped Marble

I’ve had this sitting in my folder since January  and since today is Saint Patrick’s Day, the green and gold is totally appropriate! I mostly just like green 🙂

IMG_4243

Back when Zoya was having a sale, I bought two very similar green cream polishes. Jace is the second of the two green Zoya cremes…and honestly, I like her less than Tilda, the other. As it turns out, Jace is almost in the middle between Shawn (a darker yellow-toned green) and Tilda (a bright true-green)…which since Tilda dries darker than expected means that the spectrum of shades covered is actually much smaller than I thought. I do not need all three polishes, whoops!

IMG_5175

The other sad part is that Jace takes three coats. And not three thin coats, three medium-thick coats. I even tried to use Jace as a jelly, but it is just slightly too opaque for that! The polish does self-level nicely and dries down to a super squishy high shine finish, but I want my two-coat perfect coverage Zoya creme, and this polish isn’t!

IMG_4217

I’ve been seeing a lot of creme+glitter water marbles recently, and I love how they look like the clouds swirling around a foreign planet (like, if someone did them in brick red, orange, and white, it would look like Jupiter). So, I tried to make one in green! It actually WORKED (first time I’ve gotten glitter to spread and behave in water!), but I need to figure out the ideal way to swirl the actual design before I try this again (…which is how I got the “Sea or Sky” to work).

IMG_5180

My thumb, which I did last, actually came out best. Frequently with water marbles, I am so fed up with trying to get the polish to behave that I give up by the time I get to my thumb, but I was inspired this time. And it looks awesome (if I do say so myself).

Colors
~ White: Wet n’ Wild – French White Creme
~ Black: Wet n’ Wild – Black Creme
~ Green: Zoya – Jace
~ Dark green: Zoya – Shawn
~ Gold glitter: ILNP – Clockwork
~ Green glitter: Butter London – Jack the Lad

IMG_4241

You can barely see any of the green glitter, and it was the least spread-able, but I wanted to use it anyway. Low and behold, the ILNP ultra holographic metallic polishes spread really nicely in water and actually behave well! I’ll need to play more with this….stay tuned! Hope you enjoyed!

Sunrise in Glitter

This was a mani I did over the first week of Christmas break, with nothing but holiday-themed glitter polishes. This was a PAIN IN THE BUTT to clean up (since I had used tape…I had not thought to bring liquid latex as a barrier), but it came out quite nice! The addition of white makes it not-too-much-glitter, methinks.

IMG_3949

I need to remember in the future to bring more creme polishes when I travel. If my sister is going to be around I tend to just bring a rainbow, but I was on my own for this part of the trip so I just grabbed some suitable “holiday” polishes. Which apparently means ALL THE FOIL GLITTERs. Never again!

IMG_5061

Colors
~ White: Wet n’ Wild – French White Creme
~ Gold: Zoya – Ziv
~ Red: KBShimmer – Ruby
~ Dark red: Zoya – Blaze

Hilariously, it looks like I accidentally took all the Zoya Ornate collection polishes that I own with me on this trip! I ended up with Ziv and Blaze…I do also own Storm but it didn’t quite make the Christmas cut, so it was left behind. But, that is ridiculously coincidental! Ironically, I also brought my super glittery green Zoya polish which I was convinced was Logan…but I don’t own Logan, I decided to buy Ivanka as well three years ago, and somehow forgot! Clearly, I need to use green glitters more :-p

IMG_3918

Hope you enjoyed all the glitter! I would say happy Wednesday, but today starts at 7am (although luckily it is warm enough for me to bike to the hospital rather than the 40 minute walk in the morning), so less-than-happy Wednesday!

Greyscale Netting

Sometimes I just like to play with monochrome! In this case, I was excited to see that I actually had enough holo polish to make a gradient! Well, technically the black polish was a creme, but over a holo it still looked suitably glittery!

img_5303

I actually did a second very similar mani (different stamp) that I like much better, but I’ll show that later. This one ended up looking like netting.

img_5043

Remarkably, I got away with wearing this in the hospital…pathology is much more lenient about nail polish! Maybe because there was absolutely zero patient interaction?

Colors
~ White: Emily de Molly – Crystal Crown
~ Grey: A England – Fated Prince
~ Black: Wet n’ Wild – Black Creme
~ Stamp: Born Pretty Store (asian name) – L008

img_5292

Next week starts my two weeks on outpatient in this rotation block, so I should be able to wear polish again. It really makes me angry when people enforce rules (like no nail polish in the OR) that have been throughly debunked. Regardless, I hope you enjoyed this mani!

Wrapped Hex

Initially, I wanted to do a wrapping paper design, where more of the design would be visible (or invisible) depending on the temperature of my nails (because thermal polishes are magic). But then the bow stamp I wanted to use wouldn’t stamp, so I found a different one, and wanted swirls…so here we are.

img_5023

Basically, I have no idea what this is but it looks cool!

img_5016

I started with three thin coats of Hex by Bow Polish. Hex is a thermal scattered holo polish, which is bright red when warm and deep burgundy when cold. This time around, my nails were warm when I was painting them, so they turned bright red very quickly! I don’t know if I needed three coats (although the polish dried fast enough that it wasn’t a bother) since I couldn’t tell if the darker red was evenly coated since it kept turning light. I do love both the bright and dark shade of this polish! And the scattered holo-goodness.

img_3817

I then tried to stamp with a dark red (which was too jelly-like to really show up), a dark purple (which also wasn’t quite dark enough to stand out) and eventually gave up and just stamped with black (Wet n’ Wild – Black Creme) with swirls from BM-607. After that, I tried stamping some gold (Essie – Good as Gold) bows from one of the 300-series BM plates….which failed. So I grabbed a cool diamond-like design from JQ-L20 and used that instead! I meant to add straight lines to maybe make the pattern look like a wrapped gift…but decided on dots at the last minute instead. So now it looks nothing like what I intended but I like it anyway!

img_5043

I don’t know if I like the way the gold stands out from the dark color better than when the swirls appear or not. Decisions!

img_3888

Regardless, I hope you enjoyed! Clearly, thermal polishes are my new favorite thing (I went from owning 3, only one of which I paid for, to owning 7! Yay)!

Red-y Floral

This is the mani that matches the one from last Friday! As you can see, they look remarkably similar. That is actually unintentional…I used a white-to-red gradient (over a light pink base) for this mani, and was hoping for red tips. I ended up with pink tips because my red creme is pink-based. Whoops!

img_5301

Despite the color similarity, I also really like how this mani came out! I went with a darker stamping color, so the design pops all the way down my nail (not just at the lighter end). I also decided to mix up where the gradient was originating, which ended up looking pretty nifty!

img_5380

You can also tell here just how well this plate is etched. The color that I used to stamp (Visions of Love by OPI) is not a stamping polish. It is pigmented, but has almost a jelly-like quality to it when used as a base polish. Despite that, it stamped darkly and beautifully, with all the thinner lines picking up perfectly. Score one for the Born Pretty Store!

Colors
~ White: Wet n’ Wild – French White Creme
~ Pink: ULTA – Baby Doll
~ Red: OPI – All I Want for Christmas (is OPI)

Anyway, happy post-Valentines-Day! Hopefully I can lay off the red and pink manis after this. Enjoy!

Valentines Dotticure

I wasn’t sure if I was going to use this as my day-before-Valentine’s Day mani or not…because there are no hearts! But really, I didn’t paint any hearts this year, so have some pink and red and gold dots 😀

img_5257

This mani was inspired by @badgirlnails…which really just seems to be a trend for me right now. I think I accidentally browsed her last approximately three years worth of manis and pinned them all to my to-try folder on pinterest. And they are all somewhat simple (like, 1-1.5 hours of work, rather than 3 hours of work) so when I don’t want to stamp I just keep turing to them! I would say whoops, but I honestly like her nail art a bunch so I don’t feel too bad about continually turned to it for inspiration.

img_5193

Sadly, I haven’t actually edited the mani that includes the swatch of the base color I’ve used here, Cherish by Picture Polish. I’ll see if I can’t get posted next week or something! The nail art that went with it is a bit boring, but it is a pretty polish. So, stay tuned for that!

Colors
~ Nude: Picture Polish – Cherish
~ Hot pink: WOW – #371
~ Bright pink: Revlon – Bubbly
~ Light pink: Wet n’ Wild – Tickled Pink
~ White: Wet n’ Wild – French White Creme
~ Gold: OPI – All Sparkly and Gold

img_5253

Regardless, happy almost Valentine’s Day! I hope you eat a lot of chocolates and your lives are filled with flowers. Personally, I love going to the grocery store the day AFTER Valentine’s and grabbing all the half-price chocolate :-D. There is one more pink mani coming on Wednesday (just because), and then on to less girly pastures!

img_5247

I am a little curious myself…this is my first Valentine’s day since I got married. I don’t think my husband and I are doing anything we don’t usually do (small gifts, fancy dinner, and not-flowers), but will it feel different? I highly doubt it :-p. Hope you enjoyed the nail art!
