Bali Bursting

Oh goodness you guys, this was a mess. I looked at the polish and went “yay, pastel multichrome!” I should have realized that if that was a possible thing lots of indie brands would have jumped on it. Whoops.

IMG_1665

What you see here is three thin coats of Bali Mist by Sinful Colors…and you can still see my free edge. Also, bubbles, boo! Basically I am fairly certain this is meant to be a topper for a dark-colored polish, I just didn’t use it that way. It really isn’t particularly opaque on its own. That said, when I used my mat and painted it over black I STILL couldn’t see much in the way of a color shift! So, multichrome in the bottle, not so much on the nail or mat.

I also am not 100% sure where I was going with this design. I love how crisp the stamping is, but I have no idea what it is! Modern?

Anyway, sorry today was a flop! But just wait for Friday…it gets better (it also gets a little stream-of-conscious which should be interesting!).

IMG_7618

Hope you enjoyed at least a little!

Bright Patchwork

It isn’t technically winter yet! Also, as of writing this, it has been unseasonably warm in Philly. So…fall themes are still appropriate!

IMG_2643

Although, to be fair, I think I’d find a way to use rainbows no matter the season, but since patchwork designs somehow scream “autumn” I don’t feel terrible for postponing posting these until now!

IMG_7812

I actually painted these back when I posted the fall-themed patchwork nails (the orange ones) but these were done with stamping decals to compare. Unsurprisingly, I liked the free-handed ones significantly more, but these were so much faster!

That’s it for today! Also, despite all my chatter, the rest of this week is not themed in any way (unless “things that have been sited in my painted folder for months” is a theme). Hope you enjoyed!

Peeking Through Purple

This was a super quick mani that I needed to wear to the hospital, but since I was finally able to wear colors, it is a little better than some of my stuff from earlier!

IMG_6957

Initially, I didn’t have time for a design (even a stamp) but I wanted to use a color that (1) I hadn’t used in a while and (2) was interesting (aka sparkly). I settled on Faye by Zoya. Only, once it was on, it was super super glittery and not that pretty! I forgot that I love this polish in the bottle but it is meh on my nails.

IMG_9976

So, I matted it! And wore it just plain with matte for a day. It looked pretty awesome. However, that is not enough of a design, so I stamped over it with a pink-leaning bright purple, Margo by Zoya using BP-L049.

IMG_6956

I like the way the glitter of Faye peeks through, but I really like the contrast of the bright purple and the golden-copper. Also, this took a total of 30 minutes, which is pretty awesome. Moreover, the version of this stamping plate that I have is really well etched, so even a not-super-opaque polish like Margo is able to fully stamp.

IMG_0017

That’s it for today! Not super exciting of a design but pretty nonetheless. Hope you enjoyed!

Dark Lapis

The way this ended up, it looks like a super dark lapis lazuli stone! If I was really going to lapis I would have needed to use a gold-based glitter rather than a silver one, but I still like it. Unfortunately, the mani did end up quite dark. I suppose I could have placed the marble over white rather than blue, but it needed to match a specific dress!

IMG_7583

To create this, I marbled polish on water, waited around 2 hours for it to dry completely, and then removed it. I then cut out decals from the dried polish, which is a first for me! I’ve been wanting to try this method of making water marble designs (lifting the marble once dry) for a while but never had the time to plan and execute it.

Colors:
~ Blue: Sally Hansen – Blue my Mind
~ Dark blue: Zoya – Ibiza
~ Blue with silver: KBShimmer – Sapphire

IMG_7585

Sadly, most of the photos I have of this design are out of focus, so there are only three pictures! Also, in retrospect, I have no idea how Sapphire marbled so well given its glitter content, but go KBShimmer!

Proud

You were promised colors, and here they are! It has been farrrr too long since I did a rainbow manicure. Moreover, I miss them…since I am currently on the interview trail for residency, my nails for the past two weeks have been incredibly boring! I am going to do a few weeks worth of “work-appropriate” nail art posts at some point, that are basically what I am forcing myself to wear during November and December as I fly all over the country.

IMG_8703

Anyway, this mani serves many purposes: I painted it for my birthday (ergo rainbows), and to celebrate being done with my hardest medical rotation (ergo not subtle mani). Also, I went to San Francisco (ergo bright colored mani), and attended the Pride parade while I was there (ergo more rainbows)!

IMG_8710

What that actually means…yes, I painted this back in June. I just never got around to posting them for whatever reason! So rainbows it is 🙂

~ Yellow: WOW – #301

~ Purple: Sephora X – Ignition
~ White: Sinful Colors – Snow me White
~ Black: Sinful Colos – Black on Black
~ Stamp: BP – L050

IMG_6569

I had to modify the gradient for my pinky nail, because it was just too short for all the colors as I had them arraigned. Hopefully it doesn’t look too bad! Hope you enjoyed 🙂

Fall Shift

Well, apparently I forgot to write this post until this morning, and I have a 9-hour-long test in an hour, so this will be brief!

IMG_1870

The art here was inspired by Manic Talons but oh dear god do I need to get some stamping polish! This is absurd. I tried 3 color combos before I found something that would even pretend to show up over the dark base.

IMG_7640

Also, the pink/red shimmer in The Magician came through better in real life, but I wanted a photo on its own. Oh well!

IMG_1711

Colors:
~ Blue: Zoya – Ibiza
~ Shimmer: ILNP – The Magician
~ Green and Orange random thick polish 😦
~ Stamp: BPX – L018

IMG_7649

I do like the way Magician shifts with the colors over it!

IMG_1853

That’s it for today. Wish me luck!!!

Frankensteins

Happy day-before-Halloween! Today you guys get to see my favorite of the Halloween-themed manis I did this month, Frankenstein’s monster and the Bridge of Frankenstein!

IMG_7712

The design was inspired by @paintedpolishbylexi. Everyone else does stitches over the green, but I loved the idea of black-on-green drips instead!

IMG_2242

A bit of trivia…despite all other nail art, the Bridge of Frankenstein does NOT in fact have a bow in her hair in the movie! Just the bilateral white zags.

IMG_7707

Colors:
~ Green: Zoya – Tilda
~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black
~ White: Sinful Colors – Snow me White

IMG_2137

Sadly, I will not be doing much to celebrate Halloween this year since I will be taking that darned 9-hour-long exam on Wednesday morning, so I cannot stay up at all! And would likely be too anxious to have much fun either way. I will, however, be watching Casper the Friendly Ghost, since my husband and I were determined to continue our tradition of one kids Halloween movie per year (last year, despite being on our mini-moon two days after our wedding, we managed to watch the Nightmare Before Christmas). Enjoy!
