Stained Glass Bees

It is tradition for Jewish New Year (a holiday called Rosh Hashana) to eat apples dipped in honey to symbolize the sweetness of the coming year. However, I find painting apples on my nails a bit juvenile, and I have done honey a few times now. I have not painted many bees! And then I found this inspiration by @nailscassi and just knew that I needed a creative interpretation and to make stained glass bee nails for Rosh Hashana. I actually demoed this twice: once with cream polishes for the art, and once with holos, and the holos just looked better. The only downside is that the bee wings, because holo greys out white, blend a tad too well with the background. Oh well!

Colors:

~ Grey holo: Cadillacquer – Memory Palace
~ Flakies: Emily de Molly – Cohesion

~ Black: Pueen – Black Jack
~ Red holo: A England – Rosebower
~ Green holo: A England – Dragon
~ Black holo: A England – Fated Prince
~ Gold holo: ILNP – Sparks May Fly
~ Silver holo: Darling Diva – Diamond
~ Stamp: EDK – Mosaic

Now…Rosh Hashanah isn’t until the fall, but I feel like bees are more appropriate for the spring. Which means I am posting it now rather than waiting for early October because, bees! Hopefully I remember that I did this and can reference it again in October, but for now enjoy your random spring bees that were intended for a celebration of honey in the fall :-p

Glass Flowers

I just adore stained glass nail designs. All of them. This in particular made for an excellent design because the base polish has enough color to be beautiful but not enough to detract from the shades on top. I think I may have to use it for all future stained glass nail designs, because of its shimmery yet full-coverage nature. That was not on my mind when I bought the polish (I think it was mostly I MUST HAVE MORE SHIMMER) but it works!

Colors:
~ Pastel purple/teal shimmer: BKL – Doomicorn
~ Pink jelly: Zoya – Paloma
~ Teal jelly: Zoya – Frida
~ Stamp: EDK – Mosaic

I really do love stained glass manicures. They look so sophisticated! And are pretty fast, so long as I stick with mostly pinks/reds since those are the jelly polishes I own. I need to get a good green jelly polish, ugh. Enjoy!

Stained Glass Cardinals

Stained glass nails! I love this stamping plate but I am afraid to over-use it because I don’t want it to get boring or old. But anyway here are some stained glass birds. I didn’t want to go overboard with the shades of red and pink, so I stuck with two of each. I probably could have gotten away with adding a bit more color.

Colors:
~ Sheer nude: Formula X – Marvelous
~ Flakies: Emily de Molly – Cohesion
~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on black
~ Red: Zoya – Sookie
~ Dark red: OPI – All I Want for Christmas (is OPI)
~ Green: Zoya – Josie
~ Light pink: Zoya – Jordan
~ Pink: Zoya – Tobey
~ Stamp: EDK – Mosaic

I am stuck on using Cohesion as a base for stained glass manicures, and I am not upset about that. It really does look like iridescent glass (and since making stained glass windows has become my father’s primary hobby in retirement, I have some idea what I am talking about). Maybe I should acquire a few more sheer/iridescent polishes if I am going to use this whole stamping plate… Hope you enjoyed!

Stained Glass Lilies

I have been wanting to do a stained glass manicure forever, but I was lacking many things: inspiring images, appropriate jelly polishes, and an appropriate base. I now have ALL (well, most) of these and decided to make a go at it! I realized that Cohesion, which I bought as a topper, would work GREAT over a subtle nude base as a “clear” shimmer stained glass window. I also realized that the recent white glitter collection by Emily de Molly is embedded in perfect jewel tone jellies, which are a pain to get out because there is SO MUCH GLITTER but work great for lead lighting, And finally, I bought a hot neon orange-red jelly polish while in Greece, that pairs wonderful with my existing pink jelly polish. What does this mean? Stained glass flowers!

Colors:s
~ Nude: Formula X – Marvelous
~ Flakies: Emily de Molly – Cohesion
~ Black: Sinful Colors – Black on Black
~ Green jelly: Emily de Molly – Green Light
~ Pink jelly: Zoya – Paloma
~ Neon orange jelly: Azade – S220
~ Stamp: EDK – Mosaic

These are, in my opinion, probably the best stained glass nail art I have ever done. Now, that is not exactly a high bar…but still! I cannot wait to use more of the images on this plate, and maybe to get myself some better jelly polishes (mostly a real yellow and a green) to play with. Enjoy!
